I'm not saying I disagree but there are influential people who like May. I don't want to totally alienate them.

Not to be rude, but where has that gotten us exactly? Any AD worth their salary will develop those relationships, while also spending the money in a better way than May has.

Sounds like Frank. There's the retired guy lobbying his local sports journo buddies, there's a De Smet grad, and there are two actually very intriguing choices there. He also thinks the bigger names are out of reach completely. And maybe they are but there are enough small-time hints here to make me think it's Cusumano.

Although publicly he's still gonna make excuses for Ford.

Access journalism at its finest! If SLU is going to oust his buddy who gives him 100% access, you can bet he’s going to want a guy in there who has just as close of a relationship with.

Take with a grain of salt, but I did talk to a local sports reporter with ties to boosters about the coaching search. Haven't read the whole thread so excuse me if some of this is already posted. Ford is a goner. SLU has reached out to Weber, Ahearn, DeVries, & Schertz. Weber wants the job badly and is pushing for it. SLU also reached out to Sprinkle, but he wasn't interested. Doesn't think Mack/Wade/Holtmann/Moser have much legs to them. All will probably take P5 jobs.

I'm not an "insider" by any means, just have a pre-existing relationship with the reporter and we talk on occasion. He gives me stuff he hears, but can't report.

If I were Bruce Weber, I’d also like a job badly where I could be generously paid for being mediocre at my job. Pretty sweet semi-retirement gig.

It seems like the issue isn't necessarily a lack of NIL funds.  It is just a misuse / squandering of them.  We've seen this story over and over again under May & Ford with regards to the men's basketball program.  Less with more.

Don't worry though Ford has a plan now.

It is apparent from the absurd contract given to Ford that there isn’t a great grasp on market rate relative to performance coming out of SLU. Is it really that big of a stretch to assume that also doesn’t apply to NIL? Overpay for a coach relative to his results, overpay for players relative to their abilities.

If the 750K number @billikenfan05has is accurate, our NIL seems fine. My guess is that people don’t know how to spend it properly, which makes sense based on Ford’s deal.

Yeah, you might be right.   I really wanted to get some more info from the dude but he didn't stay very long.  He was pretty confident on the Ford info, so that made me sick to my stomach...

If Ford gets another year, I think that’ll be the thing that finally causes a lot of fans to walk away. He took over a program that was in the basement, never reached the top floor, and now is back in the basement. It’s painfully obvious he isn’t the answer, and I really hope no one falls for the excuses he spouted during that segment.

Gonna be rough when Chris May hires Tom Crean

Would be the exact kind of hire I’d expect out of May. Just get those 20 wins instead of chasing more.

I’d wager he won’t be the person driving the search, after he was the one that really fell in love with Travis as a coach. The decision might be out of his hands entirely.

So when somebody came on here in 2019 and said Ford got a 10 year extension, were they full of it or was that actually legit?

Removing all that has happened since 2019, especially this season, it’s still inconceivable to think that one conference championship warranted a 10 year extension at top dollar. That is just being played by an agent, plain and simple, if it’s true.

We went thru this before. I don't believe anyone on the board with the exception of billikenswin knows what his contract status is. Rumors are rumors. Maybe right but most turn out to be wrong. My gut tells me he would not have been extended last year if even extended before.

The tricky thing with Billikenswin is they haven’t logged in since December. So doubt us lowly posters will be hearing contract details anytime soon.

  9. This past off-season looks worse and worse the further into the season we get. Took on multiple guys with eligibility concerns, a guy who eventually gets kicked off the team, 2 de-committed players, and were also allegedly strung along by the Memphis big man.

Doesn’t really seem like a great sign of where the program is at.

Travis said before the season that they expected BE to get a waiver, they thought they had a good case. Did he not prepare BE as if he was going to be the guy? Does he not realize this is how it’s been in college basketball for decades: center plays a handful of minutes as an underclassman and then gets handed the keys as a junior or senior? Are the people still defending Ford not paying attention or just not using an ounce of critical thinking when reading or listening to him? You don’t have to have some great knowledge of basketball to read through the contradictions and lazy excuses.

I would like just once for someone to ask Travis on the record why he thought Brad had such a good case for a waiver. It won’t happen, but it was pretty evident from public facts that he wasn’t going to get approved.

i would be thrilled if at year end it happens, but i wont be surprised if we have at least 2 more seasons after this season to deal with this.  it's a mess and it's embarrassing for the fandom.   we dont deserve this.

If this happens, that’ll probably be it for most of the fandom. Attendance is already in the gutter, recruiting is reaching for questionable talent levels based on the last few offers, and apathy is setting in for a lot of fans. Keeping TF around two more years could essentially kill the program in this rapidly changing landscape.

  12. There’s a big difference between saying the right thing, and being the guy to fix it.

The problems of Ford’s teams on defense have gotten worse the deeper we get into his tenure. That doesn’t suggest he’s the guy to fix them.

If ever there was a game to press, tonight would be it.  Let’s see how CTF approaches it.  With Medley, Meadows, Hughes, Thames, Jimerson, Parker and even Hargrove, we have the number of horses needed to do it.  Shulga and Bairstow are not ballhandlers.

To the surprise of no one, SLU pressed only once the game was out of hand.

  14. I know the point of the thread isn’t really this, but how much better of a team is SLU really with Brad? Offense is better, defense is still horrendous, and all this results to 2-4 with him in the lineup.

1 point win over LA Tech

12 point loss to NC State

    7 point loss to Loyola

12 point loss to George Mason

3 point win over Saint Joe’s

    5 point loss to Dayton.
