  1. Roby threw out the first pitch at Busch Stadium last night. Ford, Stone and May were all there. Just sayin'.
  2. Here is a quote from Ohio State AD Gene Smith as to why he fired Thad Matta. You can supply your own translation, but this statement looks pretty stupid right now. "Recruiting was a major part of that plan," Smith said of his initial meetings after the 2016-17 season. "We weren't winning the battles in recruiting that I thought we had a chance to win, so as we started talking about that on Friday ... the flow of the conversation took me to the reality."
  3. If anyone is interested in actual basketball, the St. Bonnie Welders come in at #43.
  4. If this is indeed true on the timing issue, and likely it is, then the question may be, what will Coach Ford do on behalf of "Team Rules"? Practice starts this weekend, right?
  5. Here are three ways to clean this mess up. 1) Give the 'death penalty' to the coaches, not schools, involved in major violations. Draw a line in concrete. 'These are Major Violations". Cross the line, you no longer coach in the NCAA. 2) Get the NBA to trash the One and Done rule. These 15 to 20 players per year are the targets for the big bucks from the shoe company. If you are an exec for Adidas, who do you target, the Justin Tatum's of the world or the Aaron Hines'? (Names only for examples.) 3) Dismantle the AAU circuit. The primary goal of the AAU system is to fund itself. Once you get to the higher AAU levels, the goal is to bring in enough money to keep your machine running. It is not about the players, it is about the people running the show. Their hands are out all the time. "Give our team your shoes and we will talk later." Do you think these players are paying their airfare to places like Atlanta, Vegas, etc? Are they paying for their $200 per night hotel room? The money is coming from 'sponsors' who aren't sponsoring these teams as a matter of civic pride. They know there is payback down the line.
  6. IU transfer Grant Gelon is reported to be heading to Springfield for 18-19. If they get Ridder and Gelon, MSU will be interesting a year down the road.
  7. Thanks. Pretty impressive that his friend can palm the ball!
  8. Who are the two gentlemen with Gordon on the first picture; just curious. Brothers?
  9. Huge. I'm sure TrollPants will chime in on how great this is for SLU soccer.
  10. Are you this clueless all the time or just on Friday's? If your bro-man Martin starts whacking six scholies a year, his money won't be good anywhere.
  11. Ya know, I am all for keeping the local kids here, but I really don't want a roster of only St. Louis area kids. We have been doing pretty good in the Metro NY area, with Bishop, Foreman, and French on board. Rhoden is from NY, so he could keep the window open. Macon has been doing a great job out in NY. Let's not shut him down by running out of scholarship. It would be great to land a Chi-town player. Will Horton-Tucker be Bailey's first recruit? Chicago has been good to SLU. We need to keep our foot in the door. Unless he is a local, top rated player, let's keep our options open elsewhere. There will be years when the local talent isn't up to par. We need to keep some of these other fertile areas interested in SLU. Let Corey pull in two a year, but then let's keep Macon and Bailey busy too.
  12. Most of the money goes to buy assistant coaches. Not much left over.
  13. Apparently Sterk went to the PD to be interviewed by the sports department. Get a load of this question and response. He is actively discussing a football game with Illinois, but as far as SLU hoops, not on his radar. 'You'll have to ask Martin." Q: Here in St. Louis, you will always be asked about playing SLU in basketball and Illinois in football. Any news you can share? A: "We are in discussions with Illinois about playing a football game, and football games. It probably won't be the six straight that they had before. But we've had discussions. Hopefully we can match up our dates and get things ironed out where we can announce something in the next six months or so. It may be home-and-home. It might not be in St. Louis. That's a good (series) for us. I'll qualify football. The SLU one, you'll have to ask Cuonzo Martin on that one."
  14. With this type of record, I would suggest we would have an entry on the A10 Defensive team. The W Michigan game is missing from the schedule on Billikens.com
  15. I am with you. I hope Jevon Bess reminds us of Anthony Bonner. But until he proves it on the Chaifetz floor, he is a 11.4 mpg, 2.9 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 18% three point shooter. He started 3 of 12 games as a freshman and 13 of 32 as a soph. To state he would be starting on the #5 team in the country, well, let's see how he produces for the #58 team first.
  16. The suspense is over. Dayton hits at #53.
  17. Adams has scored 1,312 points, in three years and is a career 38% 3FG shooter. He is a stud. It is good to see Seattle predicted at #4 in the WAC. Last year's Pilots were an RPI killer. Ditto with Oregon State at #7 in the PAC12. Sticking with my 9-3 OOC prediction, with one L at the 2K, L at Butler and then a home hiccup against a TBD opponent.
  18. Here is news for those going to Indy. http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/butler/2017/09/07/butler-aims-sell-alcohol-hinkle-fieldhouse/642959001/
  19. Okay, so this seems like it is now OT, but San Diego State comes in at 56. Who knows one thing about the Aztecs besides Fisher is gone. (No cheating by looking at the preview.) (Again, sorry to derail the thread which has been moved to Moderators, Missouri Fans and Tigerboard.)
  20. On the video posted today Elliott was in the gray tee shirt. No sweat was evident so my guess is he still isn't released for full practice.
  21. My two cents says that Coach starts his best team, which may not be the MBM consensus top five ballers. I think initially we will see a large number of combinations. We have maybe half a dozen players who could average 10+ ppg. It won't happen, but the depth is there. Coach has said this is a very physical team. Unfortunately the Zebras may translate that as a foul prone team. Hence, a large amount of subs will be used. Also, if you don't defend, you will be sitting next to Coach Tate. You may have the best shooting % on the team, but if you don't defend, we have someone on the bench who will both defend and score.
