  1. Billikens were the more aggressive team and their defense stymied Wisconsin. Almost feel like we should be up by more.
  2. Keshon Gilbert averaged 13.7 for Iowa Stste this year. I wouldn’t call that a flame out.
  3. If he is choosing Charleston, I have to think we could have brought him here. Charleston is probably going to be paying him a lot less than we are going to pay Schertz.
  4. It seems to me like this board thinks he's a good source when we like what he is saying and thinks he is not a good source when we don't.
  5. What a bonehead move this guy made. Got zero playing time at Creighton and would have gotten a ton of playing time here.
  6. If Mack to Charleston is true, I have to assume that we could have gotten him. I'm sold on Schertz despite my initial concerns about having no big wins. However, I have to think that years down the road, we will all look back at this hire as a choice between Schertz, Mack, and Ahearn. This board's choice was clearly Schertz.
  7. So does he need a waiver since he's a two time transfer?
  8. I questioned Schertz as our choice for coach about a month ago for not having any big wins on his resume at Indiana State. It wasn't a criticism, just and observation that he had not beaten anyone of note other than Drake, who ISU also lost to twice this year. Just want to point out that in the NIT, Schertz has beaten the #65 NET team (SMU), the #89 NET team (Minnesota), and the #37 NET team (Cincinnati). Only Cincinnati could be considered really quality win, but I am still much more excited about the possibility, or hopefully likelihood, of him being our next coach.
  9. If/When this deal is finalized, Chaifetz and other involved donors and May need to get a lot of credit. There are a whole lot of ways this search could have gone south, but they made it happen with their top choice despite a late challenge by a big time program. Also, If/when Schertz signs the deal, I think he has to start out extra popular here given that he may have passed on a chance to become the next coach at Louisville to become our coach. It's one thing to beat out a big time program for a recruit. It's another when you beat them out for a coach you both want.
  10. Character issues would be different. I agree if a coach has personality flaws that wouldn't be preferred. However, if it is just an issue that someone got caught up on prior pay for play scandal, I don't see how that should preclude them from jobs now.
  11. But how would someone cheat now or need to cheat now? What could WW do to get us in trouble when players get paid legally now?
  12. He's still an advisor to the Commission and still has a lot of sway.
  13. Article explaining, supposedly, the Dusty May death threats from Louisville fans story: https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/news/death-threats-louisville-coaching-search-takes-wild-turn-with-dusty-may-josh-schertz/ Not sure I'm buying the explanation. Sounds like it may be an attempt to cover up some poor behavior by Louisville fans, but maybe not.
  14. If Schertz goes with Louisville, I have to believe that the crazy Louisville supporters will think that his current roster at ISU is below them. They will tell Schertz that the Louisville NIL fund will get all new players and that he just has to coach them. If Schertz has already had a conversation with his starters and said we are all going to SLU, it would be quite a rough move to back out on that promise now.
  15. I read the statement to mean $2M. $1M to be split among the 8 teams and $1M to winning team.
  16. The St. Louis Sports Commission needs to get on this to jumpstart a St. Louis tournament at Enterprise. I've never understood why St. Louis does not have a tournament like this anyway with our central location. Get some sponsorship to kick in the money. Get TV rights sold. Frank Viverito, get on this!!
  17. Recently, information came out that we have way too many people on SLU's Board of Trustees (37 to be exact). Also, several board members are (1) Jesuits from around the country who don't have any apparent connection to SLU (like the President of Fordham and another that is the Treasurer of the Jesuit's Northeast Province), or (2) randos like Holden Thorp (the Editor in Chief of Science Magazine and graduate of North Carolina) or Perry Vyas (owner of a company based in Athens, Georgia and a graduate of Gujarat University). I totally agree that we need a new President that understands the college sports landscape and the difference that a successful athletic department can have on admissions. This is why this crazy board make up worries me.
  18. Hopefully, the reports are true that Schertz loved our facilities. If that is the case, then we certainly would have a leg up on his alma mater. Can anyone confirm the reports that he visited campus? Or was he just aware of our facilities already? Or are these reports just speculation and cannot be confirmed?
  19. I hate Dayton already. Then, in a game where I actually want them to win, they suck, which makes me hate them even more.
  20. This. Despite my concerns about Schertz's actual resume, I think he understands and coaches the game well. I would love to see Gibby in his system and see what happens.
  21. You are correct about the buyout idea and about NCAA credits. If a coach gets you to the tournament multiple years in a row, it's a great benefit financially to the AD.
  22. None. That wasn't my point. If Scherz gives us four great years and then moves on taking most of our team with him, I will be extremely happy for the four years he gave us. I will also by just as upset as the ISU fans that we will be back to square one. I don't think there is anything to the idea (anymore) that our program will have been elevated. A new coach will have to come in a start from scratch. My thought was that we have a better chance to hold onto a coach who has already been to the P6 and understands that a program in our position is actually preferred over another move to P6 and stays here long term. Most on this board wanted to avoid that type of coach simply because Ford left a bad taste in their mouths and that describes him. Another coach in the same position as Ford won't necessarily be another Ford. He could just be the next great Billiken coach. Regardless, I'm excited about Scherz and seeing what he can do. Go Bills.
  23. I don't disagree with that. My only point is that the idea of leaving a programs in better shape than you arrived is not nearly what it used to be.
  24. Their last hire was before free agency and NIL. Same with Xavier, as someone mentions later. With the new way things are done in the NCAA, these examples don't apply. A coach can leave, take most of your team, and leave you in shambles immediately after having you in a good spot. That's the difference now. As ISU fans.
