  1. To be fair, pretty much the same team (without Perkins) was a 3 seed in the NIT in 2022. With nearly everyone back (we swapped out Linssen and Nesbitt for Pickett and Forrester) we should have been a Tournament team whether Perkins was back to 100% or not. Thatch getting hurt was a blow, but we still had the talent to have been in Tournament consideration. I absolutely was expecting to be, at a minimum, on the bubble even with the hand we were dealt.
  2. I gotta say, I laughed so hard at 'Platt-ian.'
  3. It's rumored that they make the recruit weld the dog sled together before the trip.
  4. My favorite Dan Hurley moment was at Chaifetz...he was literally jumping up and down complaining to the refs and he wiped out and fell hard on his azz. It was glorious.
  5. To put a bit more flavor on this. SLU vs Top 4 A-10 opponents, including the A-10 Conference Tournament (Regular Season record in parentheses): 2016-17: 0-5 (0-5) 2017-18: 1-5 (1-4) 2018-19: 4-4 (1-4) 2019-20: 2-2 (2-2) 2020-21: 3-2 (2-1) 2021-22: 3-5 (2-4) 2022-23: 1-5 (1-4) TOTAL RECORD: 14-28 (9-24) TOTAL RECORD (factoring 16-17 out): 14-23 (9-19) TOTAL RECORD (factoring 16-17 out, 19-20 COVID out, 20-21 COVID out): 9-19 (5-16)
  6. Bess (MSU), Foreman (Rutgers), Wiley (Maryland), Okoro (Oregon), Rashed Anthony (Seton Hall), Isabell/Pickett (Mizzery), and arguably Forrester (Indiana recruit) were all Power 6 caliber players. Weaver (E. Ky), Linssen (Valpo/Wilmington), Jones (C. Ark), and Rashad Williams (Clev St/Oakland) were all smaller school guys. I feel like we've clearly had more success with P6 recruited players. That would be my preference for sure.
  7. If we must have a pithy mantra it should be connected to 'our' playing philosophy, whatever that may be. Ex- Defend and rebound.
  8. The NET has been used for 4 Tournaments (2019, 2021, 2022, and this year). The avg # of Non-Power 5 at-large bids is 6.0 under this system. The 4 Tournaments prior to the NET being instituted, that average was 5.5. I certainly believe there is a skew towards Power 5 schools, but I don't think it's any worse than before the NET was implemented.
  9. According to Team Rankings, going into today, VCU had a 3% chance of an At-Large bid. With a win today, that probably goes up ever so slightly. For those wondering, going into today, we had a 0.00% (repeating, of course) chance of an at-large bid.
  10. 7 interviews is SOP for WWT. Nothing special or unique to Fred.
  11. Coming out of the timeout: shot clock violation, then we give up a layup, and then we turn the ball over. Does Ford actually coach or what?
  12. Screw the A-10...we should hire our own NET consultant. I'd love to see multiple data and analytics people on staff, not only for player, team, and in-game insights, but also for player evaluation. The portal is the name of the game now, and one way for us to establish a competitive advantage (even against the bigger schools) is to focus on talent assessment at scale.
  13. Thanks. But we are 0-7 at their place going back to the CBI Championship. Hard place for us to win. Majerus's teams didn't even win there. I just hope we can keep it close tomorrow.
  14. I don't totally buy this 'Perkins as missing link' theory. Sure, we would have been much better had he returned to form. But we returned almost everyone from a 23-12 NIT season and added Pickett, Parker, and the freshmen. Even if you take Perkins out of the equation, I would've expected a big year.
