According to Verbal Commits Transfer list, 1108 are in the portal today and 42 have committed to schools, including those returning to their original school. Their totals change several times per day, so they may be fairly accurate.

There will be more enticing entries following the Sweet 16.

Tucker DeVries committed to West Virginia.  What a surprise.

Schertz seems to be a done deal. He hasn’t been to a program he can really recruit top level talent. Ford started off recruiting hot off the bat. If it wasn’t for the incident and covid I think he could out recruit over his coaching short falls, and we would have a competitive SLU team here today.

Schertz seems to have the coaching down. There’s no reason SLU can’t have a similar program to Marquette. We have an identical program, city and school

Not the identical conference of course, but head and shoulders over the MVC.

If you’d have told me when he was hired that Travis Ford would coach at SLU for eight seasons and NEVER beat a ranked team, I’d have assumed we got relegated to D2.  Wonder if any other A10 programs went winless against ranked opponents in that time frame.

I would guess quite a few of them did.

I'm more mad about why you didn't call me this weekend than if UL called Schertz this weekend.

He invited Old Guy to party with him, so that shows you where you stand in the pecking order.

As for assistants, give me an east coast guy, someone from his current staff, and whoever else he likes for the 3rd spot.

I nominate The Wiz for the 3rd spot.  He wil let Schertz know exactly what the Billikens need to do in the game in order to win.

I'm not sure I understand the animosity sense I get from the billiken.com mbm's for Schertz wanting to finish his season.

My gosh, any man of character would have made it clear from the first communication about the billiken opening that he wanted to finish his season with the sycamores.

He owes it to Indiana State, the fans and mainly his team to see the season to the end.  Personally, I like Schertz even more for taking this stance.  I am rooting for all the success he can accomplish.

    Well said B’Roy.

It’s not a good look to cheer against ISU. If they win the NIT good for them. Look either way he goes, he’s doing what he thinks is best for his family and career. If he spurns SLU, and I hope we have taken this as a possibility, that we have approached some backups.
A new coach is always a gamble. Toss NIL into the mix and you further muddy the waters. The attraction to Schertz is not only his coaching abilities at this point, but who he might bring with him. He doesn’t want to show up here or any place else empty handed. So, I’d guess he has given a number for what it would take to bring his guys or some of them. Avila for instance is probably attracting interest from some bigs. If UL really wants Schertz there’s little likelihood we could match UL for him and Avila, et al. I’d also bet Schertz has discussed this with his guys and has got their input on how much it will take and where they’d prefer to showcase themselves. If he’s UL guy, he and his guys that come with him are gonna face an uphill battle in the ACC. Duke, UNC, UVA, NCST, et al ain’t the MVC. Is UL counting on a starting MVC lineup to really be competitive right out of the gate in the ACC? I think not. And if they don’t get it turned around quickly their fan base is gonna be PO’d. Still, it’s Schertz’s decision. Good luck, he seems like a decent guy.

Schertz does not appear to be in Louisville’s top 3.  He is going to be the Billikens coach.

The band has been told via email the AD expects to make an announcement regarding the new men's basketball coach between Tuesday and Thursday of this week upcoming. Take that for what it is.

If it is definitely Schertz, Chris May is predicting an Indiana State loss either today or Tuesday night.  Anyone betting on that?

This. The man is a professional. Would I be checked out and looking ahead or my new job? Hell ya I would, that’s why I’m not where Josh Schertz is.

I wondered why you didn’t have a D1 gig somewhere.

I'm not used to having things go our way.  Something bad is going to happen, right?

Nope.  Not after seeing that white smoke from the Vatican chimney.

SLU travels to Central Arkansas to take on the Sugar Bears (yes, that’s the team name) Thursday, March 21st, 6:30pm, game is on ESPN+. Winner gets to go play at Northern Iowa, time and date TBD. I couldn’t find any common opponents in their schedule, they play in the ASUN, 21-11, and 14-0 at home.

Looks like the Sugar Bears will be getting their first home loss of the year.

I don't blame ISU fans for melting down. I think they should be more realistic about the opportunities though and make the right hire. They just had their Majerus. They need to go find another winner.

That program is hot and they are talking winner levels of money. They need that energy to stay. SLU is and was always going to outbid them. we paid 2.5 mil for a has-been like CTF. and if JS wins here we will get outbid by Louisville or Baylor or UCLA or whatever. Then we will be up for finding another winner.

You can’t blame ISU fans for melting down.  Imagine this scenario:  After Selection Sunday in 2012, as SLU gets ready for the Big Dance, a NY post sportswriter says that he has it on good authority that Coach Majerus was signing with St John’s University and taking his starting five with him. Steve wouldn’t be able to keep Billikens.com up and running with all the insane posts from us MBMs. I know that scenario wasn’t possible in 2012, but this board would have gone nuts if that was reported.  It would make the current posts on sycamore pride look quite rational by comparison.

So we could lose to Drake again?  Their best players are not good enough.

I guess I may be on an island but Schertz is kind of a blah for me. His best players lost to Drake 2 out of 3 this year. We lost to Drake by a handful after leading by like 20 in the first half. I think we only had like 7 players for that game too, 4 being freshmen.

I don't have the answer, but I fear Schertz might not be it. He's individually impressive and well-spoken but doing well at Lincoln Memorial and Indiana St doesn't necessarily translate to the A10 and better conferences.

I refer you back to a post from @TheWiz.  I’m doing it from off the top of my head, but I believe he said that when he ran the numbers, the Sycamores would have finished second in the conference for the regular season and would have won the conference tournament.  Maybe Schertz’s abilities do translate to the A-10.

Frank saying he has it on good authority that if it is Schertz that his star players will follow him here.

Also saying that Schertz is very impressed with the O'Laughlin Center

The Sycamore’s message board is in meltdown about Schertz possibly coming to SLU and bringing some players with him.
