  1. I like that it is plural rather than going with the trendy singular, Heat, Magic, Galaxy, Union, Avalanche. . .
  2. The job of the administration is to look after continuity. Maybe not apropos of anything, but years ago, Willie Randolph was offered the job of manager by the Cincinnati Reds, but he couldn't pick (all of?) his own coaches. The Reds wanted people with history of the organization, Randolph wanted his own people. No one's wrong, but Randolph didn't get hired.
  3. I see the IRS charitable exemption come into play. With the amateur status gone, it is more like a business and less like an educational endeavor. I see this as actually against the schools interest in that once the money starts to flow, you become more like minor league NFL and less like 'Oh, my alma mater, we love thee so!!' and the support/interest dries up, to an extent.
  4. Stevens teams don't have to win with junk defenses and the press, like Pitino. Stevens also seems to treat players like men, unlike, say, Steve Spurrier. Stevens would have a hard time getting the on and dones at Butler because that doesn't seem like his personality to cater to egos like other coaches. That being said, I don't know how successful he will be. On a sad note, if he does succeed at the pro-level, Mike K of Duke may hold the record for most wins by a college coach until I am dead.
  5. I thought it was addition by subtraction with Gordon Gee leaving Ohio State.
  6. Alvin Kohalik is still out there. He has some issues, but someone will probably take a chance on him.
  7. Just tack on 'For the Kingdom, the power and the glory. . .' at the end.
  8. Pushed Drew out the door and still no one to take his, or the other open, place with all of these, 'about to choose' recruits. The conventional wisdom was that JC had two recruits lined up. Well, we're waiting. I hope my cynicism is misplaced.
  9. In my hazy remembrance of 'Hoop Dreams', the high school coach had to remind Kevin O'Neill (then head coach of Marquette, I think) that it was not a four year scholarship, but 'renewable'. I have no idea how SLU communicates this fact, in the fine print of the of scholarship, or man to man, face to face.
  10. A former Mizzou fullback/tight end was quite popular with the ladies. His name was George Shorthose.
  11. I'm waiting to be the 2000th post on this thread.
  12. I am going with things that I really just shouldn't touch.
  13. He is also a gym rat who reminds you of John Stockton.
  14. An ND alum friend of mine posits that ND made a mistake in joining the ACC, as the new Big East would be a great fit, all sports, except football. ND gets to keep all the football money without any strings, like 'must play four ACC teams a year' stuff. (ND couldn't see the new Big East coming, but if they did, they would have been all over it.) I wouldn't rule out ND trying to rectify this error with the $$$$$$$ they have. I don't know what this does for SLU, but it may not be good.
  15. A question posed recently, who is the go to guy late in games? Mike McCall. No problem with that.
  16. 33% shooting does not get done on the road.
