And even if you did. STL doesn't dominate the soccer talent in the USA like it used to so there just isn't enough talent to think that would work. It's not that STL has gotten  worse it's just that the rest of the country has caught up.

You completely missed the point. The last time we had a St. Louis coach we were focused on our soccer program like a football program while everyone else was focused on their football. It was a different landscape and bringing in a St. Louis coach who gets St. Louis kids is not a guarantee solution.

Seriously, Americans are myopic in regards to polarization. When I was small (before we got the heck out, to Australia) there were 2 - count them 2 - "mixed" schools which accepted both Catholics and Protestants. Still today at Queens University, at orientation you get Catholics on one side and Prods on the other. Don't believe the hype that everything is merry - it's merry as long as there is no economic downturn. If there is, trouble will flare up. It does every time.
But there is a charming element to our mutual distrust/hatred. A few years back a tourist got a bit lost and ended up in a heavily Protestant part of town. Not knowing who this stranger is, a group of locals thought he was a Catholic doing no good so they beat the crap out of him - seriously so.  So what's the charming element to this story - upon realization he was a tourist, the locals took up a collection pot and gave the guy several thousand pounds...

When we were in Ireland in September we took the political walking tour in Belfast.  Fascinating.  It is a 3 hour plus tour on both sides of the wall.  The Catholic (Nationalist) side is led by a former IRA prisoner tour guide.  The Protestant (Unionist) tour guide was a former Ulster Defense Forces prisoner.  It gives you the perspective of the "Troubles" from both sides. As we were leaving the Catholic side I asked the tour guide Seamus if he and the Protestant tour guide ever get together for a pint.  He said that they do meet each other from time to time, but on political issues, not for socialization. I would highly recommend the tour if you are ever in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland is a sight to behold - if you are in Ireland, as I'm sure William iken will attest, Giant's Causeway might be the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever seen. Walking down Falls Road in Belfast was like going back in time; seeing the murals on the walls, glorifying those lost in the Troubles (sorry, quick edit there).

I don't understand why people keep saying this. Seton Hall signed him after the spring signing period in June due to a late transfer opening up a scholarship. Anthony was available that late because the schools which had shown interest decided to pass. Then he rode the pine at Seton Hall for 4 years.  He's just a guy.

The answer varies from school to school.
    A few thoughts:
The last two times SLU made a deep run in the tourney, tuition was around $21-22K per year (non including financial aid).  Tuition is $45K today though the discount is greater.
Tuition at the University of Virginia is $15K.  This is true for both in-state and out.  Akron is $11K and 15K.  Other schools double the tuition for out of state folks.  $30K at Indiana is still way cheaper.  Obviously, this does not reflect the net price that a particular student may pay.
Tuition at Duke, Notre Dame and Stanford is even more, but they have a different student profile.
You cannot give away scholarships and grants to people who are not demonstrably eligible just to get around the scholarship issue.  SLU used to have a financial aid director who would do things most schools will not, but eventually it was discovered and SLU had to pay back millions.  They got off easy.  The new Director runs a much tighter ship.

As I have no idea as to whom is considered and troll and who is not, and do not want to risk incurring the wrath of veteran posters, I will comment on the above posts without quoting.  I do have a high troll tolerance - the only thing that really irritates me is haters coming on a soccer thread to post nothing more relevant than “soccer sucks...”
    1) I believe SLU will need a run to the A10 title game, and will need to win said game.  I understand the rationale behind an elevated RPI allowing us to access the NCAA with only two more wins, but I just don’t think our record will allow it.  Hope I’m wrong.  Anyway, with our luck, we would probably draw IU at Bloomington first round....
    2) No, I don’t think MM has put on a stellar performance by any stretch of the imagination.  Which is why I believe his fate hangs in the balance during the next 10 days.  HIs last high level recruit: Kristo.  That guy could have played just about anywhere in college.  Granted, nothing much produced post season...how does one argue that point...
    3) Was Sadiq injured or in the doghouse?  I don’t know.  Good to have him back and actually scoring a goal.  I believe he is a sophomore.
    4) Hope you can make the UMass game.  Nothing like attending a SLU away game, whether soccer or basketball, and beating the locals
    5) Brad Davis team was good, but IMHO the Vedad team was better.  The best team in modern Bills history, that’s easy, the McBride, Sorber, Kuntz teams of the early 90’s.  They were really skilled, should have won the whole thing, but UVA got in the way.

I'm still processing this.  Absolutely heartbreaking.
Joe was a stand-up guy and a terrific human being, not to mention as dedicated a Bills fan as you'll find anywhere.  He was a loving husband and father to his five daughters (two sets of twins!), one of whom just got married a few weeks ago.  Doting grandfather, too.  His youngest daughter was his regular companion at Bills games, and I know he loved that.
He was something of a renaissance man.  Most people know him from his days as a restaurant critic, but he had advanced degrees in economics and computer science.  That's ridiculous.  It's rare to find anyone who combines right-brain and left-brain thinking like that.  In addition to writing for the Post-Dispatch, he worked for a number of marketing agencies here in town and back in the 90s was even a partner in a software company that went public and eventually sold.
He would crack me up talking about his house, which is in Stepford (Chesterfield - his words, not mine) but built in the 1800s, as he was always quick to point out.  And I liked ribbing him about the fleet of cars he maintained.  Joe was likely the smartest, wittiest poster out of all us MBMs, and I will certainly miss him on and off the board.  I'll even miss his corny puns.

    I was happy they won.
Unfortunately it is not a harbinger of things to come.

I'm interested to see how low VTIME's reputation will get.
