  1. I'd put a month's paycheck on no more than 3 years, but the program will be in a better place than what it is at now.
  2. please, no. This is the dude who was giving money to people to pass off to players at OSU - HBO Real Sports had a big feature on it. We already have Majerus with violations in his past, this would not be good. There must be many other highly qualified candidates without this guy's baggage.
  3. what is the attendance average if we take out the UNC game which ESPN described as a virtual home crowd for UNC?
  4. >Whatever, dude. 6 guys out of 12 from VA or MD, 2 coming in next year from Metro DC, class of 08 all 3 so far from Metro DC (yes, I count Baltimore as Metro DC). Whatever dude indeed.
  5. wow, can I get a little of what you're smoking. Must be some sweet Sao Paulo trip weed or something. With most of those guys the inroads have already been made, Majerus himself will not be enough to move our mid-major program in a mid-major conference into contention with a lof of those guys. It's one thing to get a Thompson or Suggs or other local kids who know all about SLU and still listed us despite the incompetant of Soderberg, but east coast kids? Nope. Inside out is the way they have to do it, lock up the area kids first, then branch out to other areas. Oh, by the way, Metz, Georgetown is chock full of kids from DC and DC metro. Roy Hibbert went to Georgetown Prep. The more you post the dumber we all get.
  6. we were already short of fundraising goals by nearly $8 million, does this mean we're still short over $20 million? I'm not an architect, but if more suites are being put in (mistake, IMO) wouldn' that mean there will have to be a redesign of the entire arena which would slow down construction even more?
  7. Yes, I did mention Ian, and there was a lot of undeserved calling out of him on here. Criticism is ok, but it's the way it's done. A "what the hell was JJ thinking taking that shot" or "Ian was playing way too soft in the post" comment is fine, IMHO, but the "Bryce is garbage and shouldn't be playing D-1" or "Ian is a spineless quitter" comments that have been made here (and on other boards) are taking it too far. I take the following approach, agree or disagree if you want: if you wouldn't say it to the player's face then don't say it here. I've asked players "what the hell were you thinking" about a specific play but I'd never say "you're worthless, you suck, you don't deserve to be playing D-1 basketball" because, well, if I said that to a football player they'd probably kick my ##### and have good reason to! It's easy to criticize when you're a faceless individual hiding behind a message board moniker pounding away on your keyboard. I know that players all over the country read message boards, recruits do too. I know players who have really been hurt by comments made on message boards and yelled at them during games to the point it has affected their games and they have later told others "I wish I hadn't gone there." I know of recruits who have decided against a school because of comments about other players they saw on message boards. A little extreme? Sure, but remember, they're 18-23 doing the best they can to represent Saint Louis University while persuing an education.
  8. >first, i am a huge majerus booster thus far. i think if >there was ever a man made to lead the billikens to the >promised land, it is majerus. > >that said, how is majerus refusing to accept a femi john >willingness to commit because "he as to see tape of him >playing" any different than soderberg telling stemler i want >to watch him play more? > A) Soderberg telling Stemler "I get 7 evaluations, I'm going to use all of them and dick you around" is different than "I just got here, I don't know that much about you, let me do some research." It's not like Majerus had been out recruiting the last year and considering John was being recruited by the previous staff if I were Mejerus I'd be skeptical. it isn't uncommon for kids to just show up for an "unofficial visit" and be ready to commit even if there is no offer out there.
  9. >I don't think that's fair at all. 417 crosses the line with >a lot of his knee-jerk statements, but the whole point of >the message board is that people can weigh in, positive or >negative. Just about everyone on here has had negative >opinions on players or coaches multiple times, and the >response isn't always "why don't you go say it to their >faces?" Then negative opinions about players or coaches >wouldn't be allowed. > The kid just finished his freshman season. Did we see anything out of Ian as freshman to indicate how good he'd become? I can point to plenty of instances where guys looked bad as freshmen then blossomed as they got experience. As for the original point of the post, I do not think it is appropriate to call out individual players. Coaches, sure, they're adults getting paid to do a job, but 18-22 year old kids, I think there should be limits. Criticize shot selection, criticize missing an assignment on D but Metz's previous posts calling Bryce "garbage" and saying these guys "suck" crosses the line. Just my 2 cents.
  10. >You're right on, Moytoy. > >Metz, the stuff going on now has been happening all along, >there's just more stringent rules in the league and much >more media scrutiny. Half the guys you name have records as >clean as yours, but are continually characterized as street >thugs because they are large black men with tattoos, and >that's threatening to the small-minded folks of white >suburbia. It only takes one hard foul for a guy who looks >like Iverson, Carmelo, or Garnett to be seen as a dirty thug >by most of ESPN's audience, and that's a real shame. Right on, Pistol. I think Metz must have had his white robe on when typing that. Notice how every "thug" he mentioned was black while the guys he admires were white? Meanwhile, he neglects to mention some of the classiest guys in the league like Tim Duncan, Ray Allen, Brandon Roy, Emeka Okefor, Luol Deng, Dwight Howard, Josh Howard, Dwyane Wade, Tayshawn Prince, Chauncy Billups, Carlos Boozer, well, you get the idea.
  11. >You say the same thing about Husak...yet RM seems to be >quite enamored with what he may be able to do with the guy. >I'll take Majerus's opinion. > >I'm not giving up on Dustin. I didn't think he looked as >unathletic as say, Chris Sloan did his freshman year. Just >my opinion on limited viewings. I think Dustin has a role if >he gets his shot back. If he can't shoot, then he doesn't >bring much to the table. Metz showing his lack of class by calling out and insulting these kids on a message board but not having the cajones to say it to their faces. Sack up, Metz, go over the West Pine and tell every one of these kids you mentioned to their faces that you think they suck and then report back to us how it went. TIA.
  12. >The A-10 doesn't make sense, BUT neither does the Missouri >Valley. > >What I would like to see is SLU join with other Catholic >schools and form a new conference. > >Xavier, Dayton, DePaul, Marquette, Saint Louis, Notre Dame >(excluding football), Providence, Georgetown, St. John's, >Villanova, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's > >East Region: > >Georgetown >Seton Hall >Villanova >St. John's >Providence >St. Joseph's > >West Region: > >Xavier >Dayton >DePaul >Saint Louis >Notre Dame >Marquette > >With the exception of Notre Dame, none of the schools above >play football at the D1 level, so it would not be a problem >in that regard. like clockwork - another week, another "super Catholic conference" thread. It ain't gonna happen, I don't care if I'm being snooty in saying that.
  13. so a guy who couldn't cut it academically at Utah is going to come to SLU? Not a big fan of that move....
  14. >Anderson does have a scholarship for 2007 due to Dandridge >transferring. Apparently they are waiting on Powell or a >trasnfer from Rhode Island. you must be wrong if coutside says otherwise. He probably has breakfast every morning with Anderson.
  15. >Just for you Abe. yet you still can't spell names correctly
  16. Van Horne was a 3/4, not a 5, and Shawn Bradley played for BYU, not Utah. Thompson is 255 lbs, he's not a 3/4, he's a true power 4/5. Did Novak ever go in the post? He seemed to stand at the line and fire in 3 after 3.
  17. perhaps if that were the case you'd know the proper way to express what you were trying to say is "if I had gone to Vianney." Oh yeah, and in the boxing thread that it's "won" not "one."
  18. considering some of the "bottom feeders" are charter members of the conference getting rid of them would be just a bit difficult. Plus, who says the "bottom feeders" don't rise up, Everhardt seems to have Duquense heading in the right direction, St. Bona was in the tourney just a few years ago (losing a double OT heartbreaker to Kentucky), Fordham is strong again, Richmond was just in the tourney a few years back. Plus, everyone of the so-called "bottom feeders" beat us since we came into the conference. Too bad they couldn't do a relegation arrangement with the MAAC or Horizon or some other comparable conference like is done in Euro football leagues - top 2 move up, bottom 2 move down.
  19. Spinks couldn't hang with Zab Judah and Taylor is 10X the fighter "Super" was. Sorry, Cory just doesn't have the power to hang with Taylor, who is probably one of the top 3 P4P fighters out there right now.
  20. >Your point doesn't matter ... because even though you won't >acknowledge it, Brandenburg is interested in St. Louis U. > >- Nate Nate, you're wasting your time debating with Roy. Liddell had opps to play on the East Coast? Other than the UNLV offer name one. Juniors rarely verbal so it wasn't Brad's fault? Really, look at the rankings and see how many juniors had given a commitment before now - plenty. SIU had 3 verbals for juniors. Fact is that while other schools were recruiting for 2008 Brad was playing catch up on 2007 because he couldn't close the deal. Now that Majerus is on board we know it wasn't the school, the facilities, the academics, the city, etc., it was the coach.
  21. so, pro-Brad crowd, how does that crow taste? Get a new coach and in 2 weeks he gets a big time commitment.
  22. Darren Clarke was ranked top 100 in some services. Thompson sounds like more of a banger than Van Horn (a 3) and Doleac (a 5 with a 4's game).
  23. >Are we going to the tourney in Alaska over the holidays? The 2007 men's tournament (scheduled for November 20 through November 24) will feature Butler, Gonzaga, Liberty, Michigan, Texas Tech, Washington State, Western Kentucky, and host school Alaska Anchorage. There is another lesser tourney up in Fairbanks, the Top of the World Classic. Here is the field: http://alaskananooks.cstv.com/sports/m-bas...ments-towc.html
  24. >Frank C. is reporting that Harrelson asked for his release >from Western Illinois while Brad was still the coach. No >release has been given, will not be given as things stand, >in that Frank is speculating that SLU and Brad were still >recruiting him despite his written LOI. Now, Harrelson will >probably need to graduate from SWIC - 2 years - before he >can play Div 1 again. RM does not seem to be behind this. if he is a qualifier he doesn't need to graduate before transfering.
