  1. Wow. I knew RM was a big deal in Milwaukee, but to let him play 1B for the Brewers in a playoff game.... Questionable.
  2. I saw Rickma hanging out at Fontbonne's Open gym....again.....
  3. He sniffed around the team/campus at Mineral Area but obviously eligibility is quite the question mark right now. It would make a great pool to predict where he'll play ball in 09-10.
  4. Yeah the move was totally independent of basketball! Gee whiz, Dad, thanks for not moving to Silex's school district....
  5. Conklin makes the far west's region cover Tommie for the StL area Willie for the KC region Kevin east of the mississip Daniel for Roy's subdivision
  6. That was funny Nate, but I'm upset because I assumed the bedazzled link was going to lead me to all things Elizabeth Hurley.
  7. Agreed that 37pts is a solid difference, but thats one stat (I dont think you can claim BA, SLUG, *and* OBP, as if they are 3 different numbers. OBP is inclusive (and I agree, a great barometer). What about runs/rbi? Jones avgs more per season if my quick math is correct. Who ran better? Who played better defense? I'm not saying Jones is better, but I certainly think it's even at best. I'll stop because I know youre getting on Roy, which I have no problem with. And frankly i'm not an edmonds fan. The real question: Could Jimmy Ballgame beat Daniel Lisch 1-on1?
  8. In my opinion, they are pretty similar. I don't think Edmonds is/was better. the 37pts difference in OPS is somewhat made up for in runs/steals, and of course, they hit at different parts of their respective lineups (ie, Jones should avg more runs, edmonds more rbi...although Jones has more rbi per season anyway). And fielding...both have double-digit GGs, and both were undoubtedly great. I think many would say Jones is the better of the two, often catching balls on his feet that 'Jimmy Ballgame' dove for.
  9. The best part of that Simpsons episode was when Homer announced all of those standing in front of him had made the team--and the kids cheered wildly....then he pointed at a few individually and said: "except for you, you, and you". Good stuff. I think us Billiken Boarders are missing the obvious story within the story: Next asst coaching hire....Russell "Rusty" Lisch. (and Rachel Diener better rent, not own, because Teresa will be graduating before you know it)
  10. Tatum plays slow pitch softball on weds nights at Forest Park. Field closest to the mounted police.
  11. Andrew Gaze was like 42 years old in 1989 with gray hair to prove it, and supposedly got on a plane the day after the Michigan loss to head back down under. He had like 6 years pro experience before his one and only season for PJ's Pirates. No economics final for him. He and 5'3 Leland "Pookey" Wigington formed a very socially diverse backcourt.
  12. And some St Mary's Dragons, too, disproving the theory that we all become cops, firemen, or worse. Also, great to see #11 John Lee make something of himself after falling badly as the Football Cardinals kicker. Good for you, John.
  13. I got the joke. Sincerely, Junior High Landing Chad Haley is a HUGE 'get' for H-S. I'm impressed. If Elliot Black can guard people in that conference, then he's much improved.
  14. The Harris-Stowe State University Hornets. Sincerely, StLHI
  15. I know Dickie V can unnerve some, but I wouldn't remotely question his enthusiasm. He's far more in love with the game than Packer, who is in undying love with himself. I think Vitale is a tremendous ambassador for the game and sport.
  16. (bracing myself for imminent message board version of a ten-car pileup)
  17. Great player. Plays the right way. Looks to have all the intangibles. Unfortunately, I had a front row seat for one of his butt-kicks last year.
  18. Coach Randall was a finalist at Kaskaskia JC just a few weeks ago.... He had some fun Gorlok teams, and brought a couple gunners with him from his Wisc days prior. A good SLIAC D3 game on a saturday afternoon is not a waste of time for you bball junkies who have never been.
  19. I agree that it wasnt quite as bad as he said...but he's seen alot of cardinal kool-aid bleeding and was taking it out on this particular episode of cardinal love. Even LaRussa said something like 'if he wanted to be a cardinal he'd still be one'. Not saying he should be booed for choosing another team, though. I like your taste on the CC/Sizemore combo, but i think the Tribe would have a hard time renewing season tix if they unloaded Grady. It seems like everyone is certain CC will test FA, so it will be interesting to see what the going rate is for him if he's indeed a rental. I think philly is the team that should get him if they can. Cole +CC +that lineup could win 3 postseason series.
  20. Skip--I agree with how you thought Edmonds should be greeted...and that's "sorta" how it went. At the same time, Bernie's articles stike a chord, too. I'm glad we aren't Philadelphia/New york, but perhaps some middle ground would make me less grumpy about Cardinal Nation. I also think OF is a position you don't pay for to that extent. Unless we are talking about a bigtime talent such as Sizemore off the top of my head....too easy to fall into some OF production. Ludwick comes to mind there. There is most definitely a spike in Coors #'s--that's for sure. But I wonder/assume that playing half of your games there alters your approach. In other words, Holliday, et al, hit with a mindset/approach that works at coors BUT doesn't do them favors on the road. Not to say his #'s wouldn't suffer if he left Denver....but probably something to be said for him playing 162 games *without* the 'coors factor' if that makes sense. The guy is a bigtime athlete. with that said, i still wouldn't break the bank for him. Is Texas' Michael Young a FA soon (i thought i read this)? I also think I'd pay a premium for a big bat at 3B if one were available.
  21. No apology necessary. I was taken a good natured shot at Cards fans in general--not bills posters. I'll be at the game tonite--curious to see what kind of respose Jimmy Ballgame gets. Should be an interesting night.
  22. Dear Skipper, Yes I read. Why did you take this personally? Did you think I literally meant 'everyone'? If I change it to 'alot of folks' would you relax? If you listened to sportstalk or read the paper back then, you'd have seen/heard plenty of trade speculation that was flat out silly, of which the Kennedy talk reminded me. I think Cards fans tend to be unreasonable often. Check out what Bernie felt like he had to write today. Or look at what a stretch of 70 is named. Sorry for throwing my opinion out there buddy.
  23. Ludwick and Kennedy for Holliday--Wow......you gotta love those 'smartest fans in baseball'. Why in the world would Colorado desire Kennedy, period?....much less as a return piece for their best player. This reminds me of when everyone thought we should entice the then Devil Rays with the legendary John Gall so they would send Carl Crawford west on the red eye. (fart noises)
  24. at 6:05, the guy I was with was #400-something....and he's had tix since 1983. Luckily, he was kind enough to buy two tix for a Mom's Deli disciple who was otherwise #2,122.
