  1. I don't know if this is right, but I think it is, so take it for what that's worth: I think that you can't transfer down to D2 during the year and be eligible immediately. I think if he transferred to UMSL he still wouldn't be eligible for the Spring, but he would be eligible in the Fall of '09 as a Soph and would be able to play 3 years there - but he would not be eligible immediately. I think that there is a rule not allowing players to be eligible that transfer down to D2 in the middle of the year. I don't think any rules really apply if he went to an NAIA school, as they aren't sanctioned by the NCAA. I assume he could play tomorrow, literally, at an NAIA school.
  2. If Cotto transfers to say Eastern Ill (just as an example), he will be eligible to play in the Spring of '10, however, he would be classified as a Soph. He would then play his Jr and Sr years. He would basically use up his eligiblity in 4 calendar years, while only actually being on the court for 3. If Cotto transfers to say John A Logan CC (just as an example), he could play as soon as classes start in the Spring of '09. He could stay there for his Soph year, and then sign with another D1 school for his Jr & Sr year.
  3. Yeah, I know which browser I'm using. Not talking about pop-ups or actual Chrome ads, but the basic adds at the top (and sometimes the side) of pages. Here is an example from my hometown newspaper.... http://www.semissourian.com/section/sports Using Chrome, when you view the linked page, you see ads at the top fo the page. Right now it is a St Franics Medical ad and and ad from some counseling service (they rotate periodically though so you may see a different company). Using Firefox, those ads don't show up. The top of the page is the actual Southeast Missourian banner -- no visible ads at all. Just my preference though. I like Chrome, once they get an Adblock-Plus type of add-on, I'll probably use it more.
  4. Too many ads, until an Adblock-type add-on is developed. I haven't noticed any speed differences between Chrome and Firefox, but I use cable so it's pretty fast no matter which browser. Once they have an add-on to get rid of all the ads, it will be pretty good.
  5. There is no way those are rankings for the entire tournament. Southern's rpi last year was in the 300's, No Colorado was around 275ish. Simply no way they have them ranked higher than SLU. What you probably saw was the rankings for each division of the tournament. SC Upstate & Liberty are in SLU's half of the bracket --- No Colorado & Southern are in the other half of the bracket. I obviously didn't see what you saw, but that has to be some sort of ranking for each side of the bracket or something. I'm guessing they listed the top half of the bracket in order, then immediately listed the bottom half of the bracket below them - making SLU seem like 6th overall, when actually they are #2 in their half of the bracket. If they were 6th, they wouldn't be getting home games in the prelim rounds. Again though, I didn't see the actual poster you are referring to.
  6. No Colorado is playing Creighton and Fresno in the first 2 rounds of the Las Vegas classic - so the other prelim home game for SLU will be either Liberty or Southern.
  7. USC Upstate is one of the preliminary games in the Las Vegas tourney, game will be played at SLU on 12/17. http://upstatespartans.cstv.com/sports/m-b...skbl-sched.html sorry if already announced here
  8. Nova Southeastern, Harriman's former school, currently has 6 players from Australia. The head coach and the other asst there have no ties to Australia - so I would say that the new asst coach most certainly has some ties to players down under.
  9. Why does the University of Utah have plastered all over their website that they are the oldest University west of the Mississippi? Their established date of 1850 is well past SLU's 1818, even past Missouri's 1839. Does anyone that is in to that kind of stuff have an explanation?
  10. Semo played in a same type of 'tournament' last year - here is the way these usually get setup: (Just an example, I don't know what the actual matchups at home will be) SLU will play 2 smaller schools at home: SC Upstate & Southern DePaul will also play 2 smaller schools at home: Liberty & No Colorado Fresno the same: Southern & No Colorado Creighton also the same: Liberty & SC Upstate 2 home games for the big 4, 2 road games for the little 4. The matchups in Vegas are predetermined, no matter what happens in the earlier games at home. The organizers of these tournaments could not get many bigger schools if they think might have to play 3-4 small schools, hence they guarantee the Vegas matchups. The bigger schools get 2 home games on the schedule, and 2 good games at neutral sites. The smaller schools get to play 2 bigger schools (helps with their scheduling) and also get to play 2 other smaller schools at a neutral site. This might not be the case, but it is how the same type of tournament that Semo was in last season was done.
  11. Ealy will be getting many football offers (perhaps from BCS conferences) as a DE/LB. Personally, I think football is his best sport (not a knock on his bball skills), but I don't know which he prefers.
  12. That goes hand in hand with this article. Floyd wasn't even recruiting Mayo apparently, until -- http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/21/sports/n...amp;oref=slogin Ronald Guillory - the "stranger" that approached Floyd about Mayo is mentioned in this ESPN article also -- http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-32-1...Basketball.html
  13. NashvilleBilliken - this is a different school from the Nashville Christian that you are most likely thinking of. This school is Nashville Christian Advancement Academy - a totally different school from Nashville Christian. Here is a link to the story from the Tennessean: http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...ORTS07/80505075 Link to Nashville Christian (the regular one)... http://www.ncseagles.net/temp/Home.htm Link to Nashville Christian Advancement Academy.... http://www.ncaacademy.org/ Two different schools.

  15. Alburey Doss ended up at Langston, an NAIA school in Oklahoma. Dave Stewart is at Nebraska playing baseball. Alfred Nelson is at Drury University in Springfield, MO. He avg 0.8 ppg this past season. Kyle Calloway is playing football at Iowa. James Washington is at Western Illinois. Redshirted his first year, started 12 games last season, avg 10 ppg, 42% 3pt-FG Stephen Jones went to No Iowa, transferred after his first year to SIU-E. He avg 3 ppg, making 8 starts this past season.
  16. Tillman is not signing with Semo. Semo fired the Asst that recruited him, he's heading to a Juco last I heard. Mo Smith has committed to UT-San Antonio, where Jay Spoonhour is an Asst. Sean Kowal sat out this season at No Illinois as a transfer, will be eligible the upcoming season. Sanijay Watts is rumored to be headed Central Mo, no idea if that is true or not though. Horace Dixon has committed to Houston
  17. The Mizzou press release doesn't mention a 1 game suspension - it says they will miss the Nebraska game and their status will be determined later. The Mizzou website includes Hannah in the 'indefinite' suspension release. I'm guessing that Butterfield will be gone. http://mutigers.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/s.../012908aaa.html
  18. Now I'm really confused - the article I linked seems to imply that thicks's interpretation is right. But if you look at Blackweel from UMKC, it seems the 5 yrs to play 4 is correct. Blackwell 03-04: Played 1st semester at Creighton, sat out 2nd semester at UMKC 04-05: sat out 1st semester at UMKC, played 2nd semester at UMKC (was named Freshman of the Year, according to his bio) 05-06: Played full yr at UMKC as a Soph 06-07: Played full yr at UMKC as a 4th yr Junior 07-08: Currently playing at UMKC as a 5th yr Sr That would be 4 years played in 5 years time. Has there been a change in the rules in the last 1-2 years maybe?
  19. thicks - looks like you were right according to this article.... http://www.azstarnet.com/sn/related/215605.php Oh well, no Compliance job for me, back to Financial Aid I go
  20. I'm not betting on being right (I rarely am) - but I know you get 4 yrs to play 5. But the link you posted may override that. I'm not trying to get into with you really, but I know Conley's situation was a little different because he had already sat out prior to his transfer. Seriously, you could be right - but I don't think you are, no big deal either way to me, won't be the first time I've been wrong in my life.
  21. Here's a time line that the NCAA uses: Conley: 1st yr: redshirt, sat out entire yr at VMI 2nd yr: played his Fr yr at VMI 3rd yr: played the 1st semester at VMI, sat out 2nd semester at Missouri 4th yr: sat out 1st semester at Missouri, played 2nd semester (this would make him a Jr eligibility-wise because it is already his 4th yr since HS graduation 5th yr: played both semesters at Missouri as a 5th yr Sr. He was in college for 5 years, sat out 2, played in 3. Here is a time line for Knollmeyer: 1st yr: played full year at SLU 2nd yr: plays 1st semester at SLU, sits out 2nd semester at XXX school 3rd yr: sits out 1st semester at XXX school, plays 2nd semester (finishing his Soph yr of eligibility) 4th yr: plays full yr as a Jr 5th yr: plays full year as a 5th yr Senior.
  22. Conley redshirted his Fr year at VMI, so he lost a yr when he transferred as he had already sat out a year. You only have 5 years to play 4 and Conley was already in his 4th year when he was eligible at Mizzou. You are misinterpreting the rule. If Knollmeyer transferred to Semo today (just an example) - he would have to sit out this Spring and next Fall - then would be eligible to play in the Spring of '09 as a Soph. He would have 2 1/2 yrs of eligibility at his new school. He would have spent 1.5 yrs at SLU, then 1 yr sitting out at Semo. That gives him 2.5 yrs of eligibility at his new school - giving him the 4 yrs of eligibility in 5 collegiate years.
  23. Corey Frazier didn't make a qualifying score his Sr year of HS, but got into SLU and graduated with a degree. Though this is the exception rather than the rule, it can be done. I think he's turned out okay....
  24. Little more complicated than that, alot of the financial aid is handed out based on financial need and not academic scores. Many inner city students qualify because of their financial hardship regardless of their academics. There is a difference between: -- qualifying academically to be eligible to play NCAA sports and -- being admitted to a Missouri public college/university when you are a Missouri resident Alot of students that aren't athletes are admitted to Universities, even though they would not have been NCAA-eligible if they were athletes (academic probation programs, etc), especially the first year students. If you are admitted, even on an academic probation-type deal you then still qualify for the same aid any other student would. In some financial aid cases, you do have to meet certain academic requirements once you actually start attending classes.
  25. If you sit out as a non-qualifier, you are eligible for any financial aid that any other student would be eligible for, and alot of it is not academic-related. Pell Grants, FSEOG, Missouri College Guarantee (assuming Powell is a Missouri resident), etc. Lots of programs available to Missouri residents to help with their education, depending on their families financial situation.
