  1. John Belushi would've loved the part where you never have to graduate
  2. JJ's shot was there; he just did not make it; what did Luke do? Danny Brown could be good; but so could JJ. Brown is going to have to do something besides stand on his spot and wait for the ball; he has speed and agility but he needs to move
  3. He has been sharing his tickets with his family but I did not see him on the floor; maybe he realized what a debacle this was going to be; I also did not see Rich Nieman, Bob Ferry, or Anthony Bonner some of our other NBA players. Ed Mc Cauley should be shown proper respect in our new home arena
  4. Both of these were eliminated by the politicians to safeguard the ostentitious but under utilized Savvis. Granted it will be great for the city and midtown to get this SLU venue for free. Why was the Harmon led democratic machine allowed to bulldoze the historic arena. We put the St. Charles Family Center in business adding to suburban sprawl and bridge traffic problems over the Missouri It would seem fair for ticket sales tax to be lost to the city, at least
  5. although we have a lot of corporate no shows; I think people are missing the fact that cold weather fans did come out last night. It was 9º in the burbs and a warm but windy 14º at game time last night, downtown. I wish the ticket sales office could re-sell the corporate no shows. Perhaps thet could pool the corporate tickets to first come first serve or follow the symphony's old system of exchange for a later date. If they had to make appointments for their ticket allotments each game, maybe they would take better care of them. Debbie Yow made sure they had better seats than commomers like Ed Mc Cauley (what had he contributed in her lifetime at SLU?)They are the smart money crowd who won't bother giving away their preseason and non league tickets to employees or customers
  6. with another year of this Soderberg will be drawing like the old days when a burned out Spoonhauer and an average talent coach like Grawer with a couple of good players filled the stands with 14,000 season ticket holders; too bad the reward for SLU was to become the third tennant in a building seating 22,000 that even the Blues can't fill. There is going to be some real bitching when Liddell and Lisch are seniors and a couple of new guys give the Billikens a real chance at the NCAA tournament and people will have to buy it on the radio. KFANS can't be heard at 14 th and Clark much less were we have to recruit. The North Carolina freshman from Poplar Bluff averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds and kids like Lisch and Liddell show how easily a program can turn with a couple of good recruits who are tough enough to step to the new level, Blake Ahearn had 18 points and a dunk for the Mo State team that is 18-4 just think how good we would be if he was one of our starting 4 guards and he had a fan base wanting to buy tickets that drive to Springfield for games
  7. it is legal to buy/sell tickets for face or less; season ticket holders have no prices printed on their tickets. All kinds of people sell their extra tickets rather than see good down low tickets go empty; just go 15 minutes earlier than you normally wood and watch for someone with tickets in their hands. I sit in row E or 5 raised rows behind the visitors and have often sold a pair of my 4 if I did not get someone lined up to go with me, No such luck tonight though as we have plenty of family and friends that would go see temple. Often season ticket holders sell or give their extras to the resellers so do not be afraid to offer $20 each for $27 tickets
  8. we could only hope it was a job interview; he did not seem too excited to catch the Bills as his job; probably would prefer to be the fifth guy doing the Cardinals on the sports page
  9. if you ever really listen to radio personalitues, announcers you have to wonder if they are just voices and no brains; i don't expect too much from many of them they tout anything that buys an advertisement or pays for time in many cases. There are some exceptions and Ramsey, Wiley, Cusmano are certainly on the team but why would Timmerman spend company money to go to Duquesne when we have had no coverage at some other pretty good away games? Does SLU have a P-R department courting or inviting press to attend at opportune times. It does little for us to show us playing a league opponent with no one at the game. We could have had a busload of people or a charter flight go there and be the biggest rooting section in the arena. But to what effect? The Dukes had two good players but no team. Just makes you wonder why a coach with such credentials was floundering, so.
  10. My point was better athletes don't run around like they are on crack to get the coaches attention; you can't have a final kick if you are running flat out for the whole race, can you? This was not a knock on TL who played with two fingers on left hand splinted. It is a knock on a coach who can't sense how big JJ comes up when big games get him excitedl if JJ can only get excited for TV or hometown Chicago teams is that his fault or the coaches.? We lose 6 rebounds a game with him on the bench. VN gave us the same short jumpers we get from JJ but no steals or rebounds. My biggest criticsm of JJ is his passes. They are sometimes awesome assists and sometimes awful.
  11. seems to be two standards, here. I remember Eugene Moore and Melvin Robinson and other talented bigs being critized for not hustling like less talented Grawer recruits. Some guys show up for the game and some guys wear down in practice; coach should realize no everyone is the same as a 5 foot 9 guard
  12. VN actually had a good game; he should have passed on the three pointers; his percentage there is so low he'll never climb out of the hole. Where were you guys when RAMON TRICE SET THE SCOLL RECORD FOR THREE POINTERS IN ONE GAME? He did not belong on the Corey Frazier list, but John Redden would have if he wasn't needed so badly at the time.
  13. DP has to bulk up to shoot a longer range three. He looks like he is afraid that he can't get off quick enough driving or on the jumper. He has no evasive skills. Last year he had better leaping ability. Speed alone does not get it. I did not here anyone mention TL left hand with two fingers splinted. His shooting was not hurt much but left handed dribbling was minimized. When I saw him jam it early in the game I thought we would see DB or DP play more. DB had some lost minutes and added a little offensive threat. Did anyone else notice the lack of motion when our guards looked like they were stationed on the three arc waiting like Darren Clarke for the cross court pass. What caused our turnovers? Forcing passes or fumbles or what?
  14. Ian helps out on defense and like most European bigs flirts with the three. He would have to play the 4 not center at the next level. I have suggested this before but BH really has trouble being deep at one end and the tenth player down the court. His play suffers after 3 minutes, he seems tove a real stamina problem. His coach should consider timed windsprints for him every practice.
  15. vtime, do you think any of MU players would play better with SLU teaml MU doesn't show any sign of playing together while SLU has to have 5 players in order to win I'd say Vashon would have a chance against MU right now except for their loss in Peoria
  16. We have to have tough players to Play Brad's scheme; his finesse players have not been able to drive and penetrate when he had them in the past and he has to get us a weight trainer for BH
  17. holding more than one scholarship must be a budget problem but if they give scholarships for student managers that can't be right. I do recall last year they were trying to get extra walk-ons for practise. Redshirts and walk-ons at big state schools are willing to say they were on the team with so and so or because they are gym rats or played for a big name coach. Our problem is getting a young successful coach who won't leave us if there is an opening at his Alma Mater or home state, It is good for us if Brad builds it slowly but holding schorships means we have ineffectve recruiters. I liked the choice of Sodaberg because he is Midwestern unlike Romar and graduated from a small school. Weber would have taken the Slu job before Illinois opened up. SIU has lower academic standards -many state schools like Illinois have majors in PE and Parks ans Recreation. we fit in the A10 also. It will be a better league with Slu and Charlotte
  18. averaged 14000 based on Charley Spoonhauer;s personality he was burned out physically by the time we got him and he never recruited when he was supposed to be traveling. Grawer got some wins and started the ball rolling and certainly Sodaberger has the charisma and energy to put us back to our glory days now that we are competing in "the church league"
  19. don't forget BH when you are handing out laurels. He controlled the boards when he was in and as usual show signs of poor conditioning from all the bench time; after he tires his play becomes less exciting
  20. you could be two blocks from the Savvis and not get reception; wait until the Cards start playing; it won't be like KMOX used to be
  21. On the Billiken Club board. We had starters like Clagget and Highmark but we had reserves who were scrappy and who could fire up 3 pointers like H Waldmann and John Duff. They knew they would get only so many ninutes and their job was to fire it up Carlos Skinner only playedif he rebounded JJ. These guys were classy because they had a role.
  22. A4 year recruiting error. Ahearn even had a cheering section that would have bought tickets; Clark wanted to stand on a spot like Brett Hull and wait for a feeder. Clarke was timid. Ahearn has a callous conscience when it comes to shooting. When questioned last night Brad said we really practised hard on getting the ball to Ian. The toughest part of league play is the other coaches know your tendencies. Roger Maris may have hit more home runs because the other team feared Mockey Mantle. Until we establish Lisch or Liddell we can't keepacked zones from denying Husak 1-1 or Ian 1-1 in games like last night. The jump shooters should fire when the rebounders are in position on this team not run down the clock when we are behind. Are we playing to lose but keep the spread low?
  23. we have seen JJ used at the 5 and I am sure I recall IV shooting from the 3 before; point is we have to get BH more minutes are we are going to really have a problem in 2 years
  24. Is his set shot more like Bob Cousy or Slater Martin?
