  1. no direct flights to Carbondale and others they probably have to fly to St. Louis and bus to the schools like Evansville or N Iowa
  2. In practise Dustin reminds me of Drew of Valparaiso a few years ago; he can drag the defense with him and hit some turn around jumpers. Bryce, JJ, and DB have got to have more minutes to get rid of the jitters; they are under the "coaches hook" pressure-all have skills they jusst get yanked so fast they botch everything-rush their shots and that DB low pass to Bryce made both of them look they had never played before-never pass low to a seven footer-they are not bottom feeders.
  3. Pederson played out of position like Leuchtefeld; and he gave 100% and was more effective than Luck; we have had coaches like Grawer and Spoon who rarely could recruit or coach big men; Frerichs was out with a concussion-otherwise a decent contributor with talent; I did not see Stemler but probably similar? Kevin Footes was a transfer from UMKC and the kid played against Rich Grawer and the other nine players on the floor and would still take over the game-Grawer just couldn't stand a guy that tall and talented going end to end and jamming the ball off a steal
  4. I'm not a Luke fan-but he got JJ excited-he got polk excited-he got Bryce excited-enthusiasm and toughness count for something-Soderberg talked about it after the game; these are nice kids and too nice on the basketball court; if IV and TL could play a little meaner we could get AK more playing time as in wins with comfortable leads or where the momentum swings in our direction
  5. another thread says Duquesne our next opponent just beat BC 98-93 and has won two road games; counting X win over Illinois and our wins over Mo state and Ole Miss; let us see how the top of our leqgue finishes the season and how many get in NIT and NCAA;most people know where Temple is and a lot of people don't know where N. Iowa or Creighton might be even though these are among the more established Valley teams
  6. let us know when the ranking after beating ole ,iss comes out; it was an exciting victory
  7. why worry about the bottom of the A-10 league? You must not understand the academic tradition as well as impoortance of being in major metropolitan and densely populated areas. We have been in and out of the Valley it is loaded with second through fourth best schools in each of the states-the schools are the best of the mid majors-they are not going to be any better. It is the equivalent of meeting and winning or losing to S. Florida or E. Carolina when we were in Conference USA-find a new subject-or name the teams left in Conference USA if you are really a basketball junkie
  8. we need bigger crowds and there are a whole lot of ticket buyers who just do not get it when you play teachers' colleges that now call themselves universities; let's face it Milwaukee people think it is a treat to come to another beer town even if they don't like our fight song they at least know the words. De Paul used to be good when Joey Meyers's dad sat on the bench; we like to beat Chicago which is a bear of a town economically X always kicked Huggins butt and you have to admire that-rumour has it that our hero of the average man plays the majors-John Mabrry, may have to play in Cincy this year because the Cards would not pony up for a major league contract for a class guy like John when he was forced to play for Chicago and filled in quite well but not rewarded for the effort-what does a guy have to do? Although not our equals academically, they are certainly better than crawling on the bottom with Memphis, Cincy, Louisville, and South Florida which is the Carbondale of Florida colleges-a campus that did not exist 30 years, ago.
  9. or at least believe they will get more out of the system in 5 years than 4; what happens sometimes and was happening before IV got his chance is some players play down to the bench if that is what is expected of them; is this team and coach so intent on everyone getting along that they are willing to accept the pecking order? I sure thought AK or Horace would push their way into the line up. OI reminded me of Larry Simmons and a handful of others who think if they stand on the wing someone will find them so they can throw down the game winning shot and the other four guys can grind out the rebounds and hustle for loose balls-I like Brad and think he may have staying power but who would say demanded less of his talent Rich Grawer Spoon Romar I'd rather have Brad than any of the others with the caveat he needs to demand more from every player-even the guys hiding at the end of the bench.
  10. hope we don't give his scholarship to another walk-on-I know we have needed walk-ons to fill in for injured players or because we were were "saving" scholarships for unexpected late signs or transfers; but maybe we need to recruit walkons who are acaademically eligible for scholarships or related to the Waltons so they can afford to buy pizza for the team (just kidding) we all know the Laurie's are committed to public education like MO State or MOO U as they need the masses to buy at walmart-but that is a subject for another thread
  11. what would you do? you have to play the cards your dealt and IV is gone next year and we would all love to have Horace or AK step up but it really was not until league play last year that TL and KL took over Where we are different this year if they get playing minutes even Bryce, JJ, HD, AK have more rebounds in limited action than last year for that matter that is where IV has improved most. TL had way to many rebounds last year compared to the others on the floor-we are better this year but it may be year end before you admit it
  12. OI has never rebounded-can't jump-won't mix it up under the basket and wants to shot the trey from the perimeter-same reason JJ got pulled after a few good minutes against NC then he shoots a long jumper out of his range instead of getting ball movement. Come on kid its your senior year.
  13. right after his first year he refused to answer questions from the media about would he go to a bigger program and when he and Norm Stewart were co-coaches of the year he as much as said he was looking-same thing with Romar-not a SLU grad and until we get a local coach like a Clagget or Bonner that wants this to be his home much like Irons did with Vashon except-cleaner we are going to suffer these ups and downs. The media has not given SLU a break we take MO State after the predictions are they would run us down and we are on page eight. Shimmy Gray gets some press; but not much on our men's soccer or men's basketball; Cheryl has to take some responsibility for that. With the Blues and pro soccer at new lows it was obvious 25,000 would come out to see how we fared against NC; Our building an arena of 10-12,000 is a weak committment from Biondi. Even loyal fans such as myself are tired of waiting for two good recruit years in a row; Play Horace Dixon and AK in the second half for the exposure and fresh legs what could be the worst that would have happened we lose by 25 instead of 21? I'm waiting for Brad to come out with a fresh plan the second half of an important game instead of having a seasoned coach close all of our doors after we play the hell out of the game first half. Take it to them Brad-stop waiting to see what the other guy is going to do. Take the time out with two baskets in a row instead of waiting until they take us down 12-2 to open the second half. Kick some butt. The players we had in did just fine until they wore out. Look at the numbers JJ, BH rebounded and D Brown added 2-2 shooting-build on that.
  14. yes they were let's hope they can do it against teams that are stronger; Luke was actually faster than his man tonight and Polk was all we should expect. However, we need several guards, wings, fours not just 4 or 5 starters who have to play 35 minutes eadh; tonight looked hopeful maybe we will start getting decent crowds
  15. please post if you know of a lead or bar that can get it
  16. gee, do I want my kid playing sports and studying with private school elite or semi elite or do I want my kids to drive 150-300 miles to go to the third or best public school in the state? Do you want a $200,000 scholarship or a $20,000 scholarship? How many ways do we have to say it why should St. Louis University want to associate itself academically or sports wise with a group of decent schools that can't get top funding in their own legislatures and certainly you are not going to read the Philadephia, Washington, D.C., papers etc and see what Carbondale just did on campus.
  17. you would think they could find space on front page to mention we have a game; we used to get a potential list of starters and a little article game day; what gives with these guys?
  18. Unfortunately missed this weekends' games due travel; hope IO can get some balance; if it is just because he is top heavy or very weak feet and lower legs; something is different about him and my goodnes we have to hope HD getslots of game time this year same for Bryce: we are going to need a lot of help; did AK show anything in 2 minutes besides the foul against A& M? Also saw OI had two fouls in 6 minutes. This is merely boxscore scanning; sure would like some insight as I hardly ever miss a game-even took my wife to the Paradise Jam two years ago. I, too, have some hopes for this team- even 18 plus wins would be great compared to the awful talent we have had since Romar's recruitment emphasis on Darius Miles who couldn't get into school but could go directly to the NBA and the entire West Coast as if he had free expense account to build a reputation out there-great guy except was the selection committee really thinking they could keep him in the Midwest-even with our improvements on campus?
  19. I was in Southwest Kansas for four days and would like to know who the starting 5 were and how long they stayed in; thanks as I was living in an area of the USA that had one channel from Wichita and no AM radio-snow for TV on Sunday NFL games; I asked the locals about news and they said they were sure they would be alerted if the Russians attacked us-however they all new the price of cattle and feed and seemed happy in spite of a 5 year drought.
  20. In the city you can still buy the latest edition which I believe has been 5 stars in places like lafayette square corner of Park and Mississippi across from Arcelia's Mexican restaurant (they have a hot pepper clear broth chicken soup that will break a fever)
  21. same kind of interest; Guy Phillips actually sounded happy to announce the Billikens and encourage the crowd participation. Did I miss the Prayer or did we give up on that until we get the new arena?
  22. are the band and students going to stay switched permanently? Pretty good student body turnout for such a non Div 1 game-great to see the kids making an effort; when I went there I thought BB tickets and student price tickets at the symphony were two of the real bargains if you had a date.
  23. how many season ticket holders? How many walk up sales? Friday night would be a better comparison to SLU saturday attendance; all I heard on radio was it was a sparse crowd Friday
  24. I haven't seen AK play due to injury; but HD looks like he could be the Carlos Skinner rebounder and can shoot and has good hands; he just needs game time so he doesn't play like a freshman; remember how Kevin Lisch played sparingly in the first semester last year? Bernie finds it easier to report that St. Louis is smaller than New York and LA and so we don't have the money to compete in baseball,
  25. they announced 6800 not 5800; of my twelve tickets only my wife and I showed up; the fellas below me and next to me who are not part of my group are regulars and were no shows; people do have other opportunities and obligations and for less than division one opponoents we are not going to do well. It is a scheduling lesson. On the same note my twelve bought 10 extra tickets for the NORTH CAROLINA game for a total of 22; we got decent seats in 118 or edge of the floor in the lower section. That means people should be buying season tickets if they want priority in an arena that is going to hold only 12,000 when the Larry Hughes year we averaged 14,000 hard to extrapolate from that small a sample. We did have a couple from St. Louis sitting directly behind us and they complained about SLU keeping the regulars in so long as they might get hurt and next breath they were hoping out loud the the "Hawks" would sink a three to pull closer. Have you heard attendance for the Blues; I bet we are out pulling them
