  1. Just wanted to chime in and say I share the sentiments of everyone else who's posted about Fr. Hagan. What a great guy. For me, his influence made the U High more than a school but a special community where everyone was known by name and made to feel they belonged the entire time spent at the place as a student and even years after.
  2. Not listed on the Old Spice Classic at Disney World, there's one team still TBD in addition to the following... Gonzaga Maryland Tennessee Michigan State OK State Siena Wichita State
  3. We should organize alumni brunches in the parlor room on Saturday morning game days.
  4. Here's some more on his recruitment as of 9/16 from Mark Miller at WisHoops.net... http://www.wissports.net/sports/hoopsb/article.asp?nid=14510
  5. As a clarification, it appears the pictures that have been cut & pasted earlier in this thread are not Roth. Nate said Roth is No. 30, but No. 20 is taking the shots in the two pics above.
  6. Over at BigSoccer.com word is that the big three of STL soccer recruits for next year have given oral commitments to Indiana...Bruin, Meyer, and Haffner. Bummer.
  7. On a similar topic, I have an marketing idea to garner community buzz and even recruiting purposes prior to the start of next season. I think the sports marketing department should make enormous banners (larger than current billboards) with the local players to display on the side of noteworthy/high-traffic buildings in the area. - In downtown St. Louis, on a high rise possibly visible from inside Busch Stadium, a Tommie Liddell banner. - In downtown Clayton on a high rise, a Kevin Lisch banner. - For recruiting purposes, in downtown Washington, a Luke Meyer banner...which Scott Suggs might happen to pass by from time to time. Don't know how plausible this is with SLU's budget and the availability of space...but I think it could be a different way to brand Billiken basketball in town similar to what you see a lot of in LA and NY. They should include some snappy line which I haven't yet conceived. Maybe for at least Kevin and Tommie, something like "Coming Soon To Chaifetz Arena!" to highlight the new arena.
  8. I'm almost positive this kid's older brother attended SLU.
  9. Check out this great huge article about the Lisch's on the cover of the USA Today's sports page... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/front.htm Here's a direct link to the article itself... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/200...sch-cover_x.htm
  10. SShoe, the lunch pail and hardhat guys were not the eskimos...the eskimos were the light blue tshirts and stocking caps. Just wanted to clarify dude, don't misrepresent. I remember the hardhat guys...they were a different faction, but did a good job. By the way, nice job keeping the refs in line from the front row last night...well done!
  11. Any word on other buildings in that immediate area...are those the only two buildings that were purchased?
  12. One of the owners of Best's Steak House is an avid soccer fan/player and a SLU alum.
  13. They could try to get Schlafly to buy naming rights to the baseball stadium and sell beer at the park. Down the street from Busch Stadium would be Schlafly Stadium.
  14. I agree with offering official apparal from Nike. The imitation crap just doesn't get people excited. Make the Simon Rec Center more retrofitted with Billiken stuff. This place is full of athletic people who probably have some interest in sports. They could hang championship banners in here along with the others elsewhere. Install a video board...could be small that gives schedule/details of upcoming events. Paint the walls in school colors Blue and White instead of orange and red. Paint Billiken or SLU logos on courts. For soccer: - Put national champion flags/flag poles beyond the bleacher side of the field with the year listed inside a star (which is the symbol for a championship in soccer) and NCAA National Champions written under the flag. - Have SLU Alumni playing in MLS or abroad donate their pro game jerseys for halftime giveaways to students. - "Grade School Jersey Night" have students break out their old Seven Holy Founders and Holy Redeemer soccer jerseys for a game. If they don't have one, there is a wide assortment at local thrift stores. The tighter and more old school, the better, with the 11 best getting the game jerseys off the back of the SLU players to take home. - "Date A Soccer Player" night...works for guys/girls games. Have one student present at the game win a date with a player. For baseball: - Have a beer vendor selling $1 beers at the place SLU calls a "baseball stadium"...or why not build a new stadium that could rival high school baseball parks in the area. Something with in-ground seating...a better atmosphere.
  15. My senior year of college, 2002, a couple guys in my fraternity and a few other friends constituted the scout team for the SLU women's team. They attended just about all of the women's practices.
  16. I don't remember Luke Meyer playing a second in the GW game...any ideas why not? Did they want three better ballhandlers in there with the pressure GW was supplying? If their endurance is lacking, it seems the bench would be extended a bit and Coach would utilize Luke.
  17. You could have exploited the "dirt" on Morrison's upper lip last night.
  18. I'm going to the game with a group of around seven...we're taking the shuttle from Humphrey's, I believe. We'll probably stop by Off Broadway after the game. They go by "The High 5's" now and are actually a critic's pick in this week's RFT.
  19. SLUH '98, SLU '02 Sigma Chi, graduated with a Marketing degree from the BSchool Big SLU fan ever since my pop brought home a Bonner autograph for me in grade school. Currently work as a publicist for movie studios in the St. Louis area (Disney/Touchstone). Go see "Glory Road" on January 13th...it's a great college basketball story.
  20. Saw this in the Post this morning from Nate. What is the deal with this guy? He's a big dude, but can he play? It says he considered us, but that he contacted Colorado and the Big 12 school offered a schollie : DeSmet's Kowal gives commitment to Colorado DeSmet's Sean Kowal committed to play basketball at the University of Colorado during an official visit on Sunday. "Colorado had everything I wanted, everything I was looking for in a school," he said. Kowal, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound center, contacted the Colorado coaching staff a couple weeks ago because he was interested in the school. After some background research, the team sent an assistant coach to check out Kowal and offered him a scholarship on the spot. A Metro Catholic Conference honorable mention selection after averaging 7.6 points and 5.7 rebounds a game last season, Kowal said he also considered Austin Peay, St. Louis University, Ball State, Tennessee and Albany.
  21. I hope we are wrong, but the Post lists him as 6'2"...[http://prepsports3.stltoday.com/basketballboys/05/stats/roster286.shtm]. If he is now 6'6" as you say, that is wonderful. I'm just cautiously optimistic about a guy that is listed differently and who most of the folks on this board seem to have heard little about. If he is a great talent, then by all means I hope we offered.
  22. This kid averaged 12ppg and 3.6rpg as a freshman last year for a team that finished 5-19. He's listed on the Post Dispatch site as 6-2 and 150 lbs. Sounds fishy, I hope he grows about a foot.
