Alabama and Clemson were just in the Final 4. I assumed they had so much football NIL $ it was also boosting MBB. 15% is probably more than enough to raid the portal every year

Yep, more than enough $ to raid most non P6 players. I liked it better 20 years ago, when many of these football factory schools in the south kinda sucked in hoops and treated it as an after thought. Now  many of them have more money than they know what to do with so they throw it around on coaches and now players in the NIL era.

  2. This was the scouting report on TyTy coming out of high school. Curious if he is regarded as a good defender now. I feel like we still need that element.

At only about 6-foot-1, is an off-the-ball player who has the potential to be a high-level scorer. Built like a tailback, is fast, explosive and powerful. A good shooter from deep, and should only get better with reps. When attacking the rim he uses his significant vertical explosion and strength to finish through taller players. On the defensive end his toughness and athleticism give him significant potential, though he does need to have more of a commitment - especially off the ball. A solid prospect who can play both guard spots, but is more suited as a scorer who is a secondary ball handler and decision maker.

Frank just said that Kyky Tandy will be visiting SLU in the near future.

We recruited him out of high school - played at Xavier. Good 3-pint shooting and free throws: doesn't help with assists or rebounds. Not sure what kind of defender he is. He put up good numbers last year and he's very experienced.

The kid was the starting point guard on an NCAA tournament team and will immediately be the best defender on the team. He wasn’t a great fit offensively in the slowdown Boise offense.

Yeah there are some flaws in his game, but we're not going to get the perfect player. He is an experienced player and yes, I read the same thing, that he plays good defense, is very athletic and wants to push tempo - which Schertz wants to do, Boise wants to do the opposite. He likely would be a much better fit here.

So in effect we plug in  Gibby for Cornwell and Anya for Kent to recreate the ISU success story. Add with  Swope and SLUAlcindor what piece are we missing. Is it Dotzler or Junior? If I were Thames, Junior, and Dotzler I’d be in the gym every day with that shot recording machine shooting 300-500 3’s a day. We should terrorize the A10. And there I go again getting carried away again. But you can’t deny Schertz is building his kind of roster. Who in the A10 is gonna matchup with bigs like Avila and Anya? Still worried a little about D but in Schertz I trust. Best I can figure out starting 4 puts up almost 60 ppg on average. Not many teams can say that. I welcome WIZ’s analysis of our latest addition.

We need to replace Julian Larry - PG. Dotzler will be in the mix, but I hope/expect we will land an experienced PG with one of the three remaining spots. I think the combo of Anya/AJ will be at least equal to Kent- who was nothing special until last year. Conwell is better all around than Gibby, but we’ll be fine there.

I expect Schertz will have a deeper roster, the question that remains is will his starting 5 be as good as last year?

I mean more general height, not necessarily hanging out under the basket. With a 3 heavy offense, you'll get some deeper rebounds and general height should help. Jayson Kent went from 2.9 and 2.1 rebounds per game his sophmore and junior years to over 8 last year.

Very good point, also look at the jump in FG% for Kent in his first year with Schertz compared to his second. It's striking. I will be interested to see what Kent does next year without Schertz.

I think Mongolian Mike could be a very good fit.

Tyler Cochran out of Toledo seems interesting.  From what I can see, he just hit the portal April 19.  He has been injury prone during his career, but stayed healthy all of last year.  I think he has just one year of eligibility remaining.  He shot .495 overall and .356 from three last season.  Also, he averaged 6.4 rebounds a game which is impressive for a 6'2" guard.  Someone mentioned we will need more rebounding next season from our remaining lineup spots.  He could help with that.

Has he been tied to SLU or are you just speculating? I agree we need rebounding - Conwell and Kent combined for 14 rpg.

This kid is well traveled and experienced. This would be his 6th season like Gibby.

So what's everyone thinking with remaining four?

    Another transfer big

    Another transfer guard

    Freshman guard

    Freshman big?

Yep, that's goal - with the hope that the two more transfers TBD would be starters.

The roster is definitely coming together quickly.

Frank said on his show that Casey’s commitment is supposed to come today. He mentioned him and Avila playing at the same time with Casey being the 5 and Robbie playing the 4. Not sure if that was his assumption or what Schertz told him. With the way Schertz’s offense doesn’t use traditional positions, it doesn’t really sound like something Schertz would say.

As long as Tate is on staff, Frank will typically be a reliable source for recruiting. He's also texting Schertz directly now - haha!
