  1. I forget which temple is which, but there is one on Olive, just east of the Metropolitan Building that Trampe is about to rehab. Now that I think about it, I think it's a Medinah Temple, with the Moolah Temple on Lindell as you said. It's easy to overlook because its not nearly as impressive as the temples on Lindell.
  2. Exactly, I think it was called the Marina Building. It's a shame that it couldn't be saved too, it was a beautiful building. I have seen renderings for the building that will eventually be built there though, and it looks pretty nice - a combination of retail and residential.
  3. Steve Trampe, the developer of the Continental Building, is working on the Woolworth's building and will be marketing it as restaurant space. He's also about to start working on the Moolah Temple on Olive, just behind the Midtown Office Building, for use as an incubator for performing arts groups. Things are coming along, and I think in five years or so, the area will look pretty good. Hopefully SLU will get started on developing the vacant lot at Grand and Lindell sometime soon...
  4. I think Derek Falb was the only walk-on at that time, and he was hardly a brotha.
  5. I much prefer the Compton/Market option. Grand Center is starting to experience a renaissance on its own, and the Grand Center site that SLU has in mind would take out too many existing buildings that could be reused as lofts, small office space, restaurants, etc. Momentum has been building along Locust Street over the last year or two, and I think that having an arena there would squelch that momentum somewhat. Not to mention the fact that the arena would be off campus and incompatible with its surroundings while costing the university an exhorbitant amount of money. Just judging from the renderings (and they look awesome), the arena is perfect for the Compton location.
  6. I was thinking about heading over to campus to see if there is any decent Billiken gear available at the bookstore. Is the new bookstore located in the new Busch Center or is it still over by the clocktower?
  7. True, but one of their writers, Mike Seeley, has given us some nice write-ups.
  8. I agree. It's a great site and is in close proximity to both parking garages. I can't see Harris-Stowe getting in the way of this one; if Fr. Biondi wants to buy that school, he'll get it.
  9. Thanks for the report, Roy. Hmmm...one verbal before November and the other in the spring. Perhaps Shaw before November and Liddell in the spring after he gets the results from his ACT? Or Liddell in November and Shaw in the spring after he receives word from Stanford?
  10. I think they do. I seem to remember A-10 games appearing every Saturday on ESPN.
  11. Those are some good points. While I certainly wouldn't want Brad to turn his back on recruits from outside the St. Louis area (and I don't think he ever would), I do think that successful St. Louis recruiting is a major key to our future success, just like it has been to the majority of our past success. Like Roy has said, the local kids who stay here to play really seem to be embraced by the fans and the community, and that's got to be a selling point for us. I'll take Liddell and Shaw in a heartbeat!
  12. Would you say that our chances of getting Shaw are better than SIU's, since they have a new coach? I guess Painter probably already had established a relationship with Shaw, but who knows. Is SIU one of the few programs still recruiting Terry Evans? From what I've gathered from this board, it doesn't sound like we're recruiting him at all. I hope things work out for him with his injury. It sure would be nice to round out this recruiting class with Liddell and Shaw.
  13. Thanks for the recap! I didn't hear anything about this luncheon ahead of time, otherwise, I would have liked to have gone. Who did the invites go out to?
  14. The Business Journal article only mentions that SLU is considering buying the public school property. As you would expect, Biondi and Kathy Brady didn't divulge much on their intentions, but Brady did state, "We've acquired about 50 percent of the site (the original site in Grand Center). That's a lot, but it's still only 50 percent. We're reaching the point where we're going to have to give up and go on." She also said that SLU has space to place its sports arena on the university campus. The article says that SLU is unlikely to seek condemnation rights in the Grand Center neighborhood. Said Brady, "We've asked ourselves how much is it worth to put the (arena) there in Grand Center. At some (price) point, it will cost us more than the $15 million, and we want to see the neighborhood developed too." Apparently Brady will be upading the board of trustees on the arean site plans today. I hope that we do buy the school property. I think it would be a win-win situation for SLU and Grand Center.
  15. What's that address again? You know when Humphrey's of all places is unable to show Billiken games, we have a major problem with our tv deal.
  16. I don't know, there are a lot of fat P.E. teachers out there... I don't think anyone was putting DePaul down for offering a P.E. program. It's just that when a school like DePaul is attracting juco transfers, you have to wonder what they're doing differently than we are. Looks like we have our answer.
  17. Actually, I think Georgetown's football program is Division I-AA. They play in the Patriot League. They seem to have a pretty good set up.
  18. I'll take Carlisle over Thomas any day on coaching ability. However, to say that Carlisle needs to improve his people skills would be an understatement. It will be interesting to see how he and guys like Artest and O'Neal get along (or don't get along).
  19. Maybe we've actually already moved to the Valley and are playing in the Valley tournament, with Woolard hoping that no one notices.
  20. WTF??? I'd be interested to hear what the class was that Morris couldn't pass and why he was unable to stay eligible, but for some reason he's able to be eligible at UWGB. Why must we make it as hard as possible for these kids to attend SLU?
  21. Next thing you know, they'll be changing the name of their dance team.
  22. Best of luck to you, Steve! Be sure to take advantage of all that college, and more specifically, college in D.C. has to offer. I know that your college experience will be exciting and fun, and you'll have the time of your life. The best advice I can give you is actually from the movie Billy Madison - stay...stay as long as you can. Seriously, stick around for a 5th year and prolong the inevitable. The real world is not nearly as much fun. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in on Billikens.com!
  23. I heard on the radio this afternoon that Lucas will be going to Oklahoma State.
