  1. I remember that at the last Tip-Off Club meeting there were tickets to the shootout available. Does anyone know if they will still be available at tommorow night's meeting? If they aren't, is the Savvis Center ticket office best place to get a ticket? Thanks.
  2. You deserve credit too, The Band, as I understand you were rounding up anyone you could find to drive the Band members back to campus after the shuttle didn't show up. Thanks.
  3. Yeah, that was terrible. All members of the Band who didn't drive to the game spent probably 45 min-1 hour standing around outside of Savvis. There are definitely some angry people about this. Did the Blue Crew and the rest of the students get a ride back? I heard that you guys were packing as many people as you could nto cars to get to the game.
  4. I'll be there Nate. By the way, for anyone else who plans on going, I'd suggest getting there early because Vianney's gym is small and tends ot fill up quickly.
  5. I played in some pretty bad weather when I was in grade school. One time the field was practically covered in ice. Last week at the SLU-Binghamton game I heard Bill McDermott tell an interesting story about the 1967 national championship game between SLU and Michigan State, which Bill played in. The game was called due to inclement weather and iin the end both teams were declared co-champions. Anyway, Bill said that the game should never have been started because of the weather, as there was standing water all over the field and chunks of ice floating in the standing water. The game was called when I believe a Michigan State player slipped around the top of the penalty area and slid a long way until he crashed into the goal post.
  6. Not that I'd expect Arkansas State to be a place that the local media cared about, but can anyone else see the St. Louis sports media lashing out at SLU if this happened at SLU with Slaten? I just remember Bernie complaiing about how SLU should have been recruiting Troy last year, even though we were in demand of post players.
  7. First of all, let me say kudos to Tom Timmermann on an excellent article. As far as tickets to the College Cup go, they aren't sold out yet, and looking at the attendancnce from the past few College Cups, it looks like the semifinals get good crowds, but it drops off in the finals, which could be understandable considering that some fans would leave after their team loses in the semis. Looking at the prices, if you plan on staying for the whole thing I would suggest buying the package for all three games because it is a few bucks cheaper than if you buy them individually. Tournament packages run at $32, $36, $40, and $50. Semifinals and finals separately run at $18, $20, $22, $32 if you buy in advance and $20, $23, $25, and $35 if you buy on the day of the game. If the Bills win over Maryland (fingers crossed while knocking on wood), it looks like I'll have my finals done by Thursday, which would allow me to travel to Columbus for the College Cup.
  8. Remember, WVU was the team that Izik lit up last season. Hopefully he will be able to have another good game against the Mountaineers which will jumpstart his season. They seem to be rather worried about us dominating inside.
  9. As a DeSmet grad who has seen his share of DeSmet basketball, let me say that the system centers around team play, so don't get discouraged if Leonard doesn't put up gaudy numbers. From what I've heard, he has a chance to be a very good player at DeSmet for the next few years. Also, sophomores don't get significant playing time at DeSmet unless they are really good. To give you an idea, Blake Ahearn, now at SMS, came off the bench as a soph and put up quality but not spectacular numbers. The next year as a junior he averaged over 15 ppg.
  10. Yet another overtime win for the Billikens. Vedad Ibisevic scored two goals for the Bills, including the winner, and Cooper McKee tallied the other goal. Troy Ready scored both goals for UW.
  11. I was there and have a few responses on some of the comments that have already been posted here, so I decided to put them in one thread. While the official attendance given was around 2500, I thought that was way off. My guess was around 4000-4500, but it wouldn't have surprised me one bit if it was 5000. I was stunned to see on the scoresheet that only 2500 were listed. As far as parking and entrances are concerned, traffic was stop-and-go heading into the Olive-Compton Garage basically from the garage to Grand Ave. Since most people parked in that garage or on the street, most people did use the same entrance which was near that garage. As far as I know, people could have parked in the Laclede Garage or on the street around there, and they would have been able to enter the stadium at the main entrance. I personally didn't have any trouble with the entrances, except waiting to get in the garage, but then I didn't have to pay to get in either. When I read this morning that the BU coach said they were trying to take it to a shootout, I didn't like that. While I understand that you should do what needs to be done in order to win, I thought it was a bush league strategy. But then I think that a game shouldn't be decided on penalty kicks, it should be decided on the field in actual play. I watched the game from the press box, and everyone thought Matteson had scored for SLU in the second half. I actually wrote "SLU goal" in my notebook, then had to change it to reflect that we hadn't scored. One little interesting tidbit, one of the photographers was showing me some of his pictures from the first half, and one was a very good picture of DiRaimondo's free kick late in the first half that just went over the goal. In the picture you could see that the keeper got a finger on it, which would have given SLU a corner kick instead of a goal kick for BU. Finally, to those complaining that SLU picked a bad time for the next game since the Rams are also playing, let me say that you are dead wrong if you are blaming SLU for it. SLU thought that the game would be Saturday night and as I understand it had planned for that, but then to their surprise the NCAA told them to schedule the game for Sunday at 1 pm. If you look at the schedule for the third round, all games are being played on Sunday afternoon. All in all, great game by the Bills. I'm excited to see them play again on Sunday.
  12. I don't think there are any rules. I originally had Quitman Dillard because he was my favorite player during his time there, which one of the years coincided with when I was in 1st grade, so I would routinely tell my teacher that he was my favorite player. Well, whenever my 1st grade teacher sees my either my mom or I, she asks us how Quitman is doing. Anyway, I thought that worked, but then the idea came to me to sponsor my fellow DeSmet alums.
  13. According to ESPN.com, Dayton beat Central Michigan 82-63. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=233282168
  14. I knew there was another DeSmet grad that played for SLU in the 80s, but I was too young to remember who it was. I am old enough to remember Gaona and Baniak playing for the Billikens.
  15. After seeing Savannah State play tonight, I honestly didn't think a D-1 college basketball team could be so bad, but NC A&T might just be close to being that bad.
  16. I'd say the class of Highmark, Claggett, Julian Winfield, Ryan Grant would definitely be up there.
  17. The announced attendance is tickets sold.
  18. As a Band member, Owens speaks way too slow, and as a result we get screwed out of time to play our songs. Phillips may be annoying, but at least he speaks at a faster pace, which allows to play more songs. As a band member, I'd choose Guy. If I was sitting in the regular seats either with fellow students or with my parents, I'd choose Owens.
  19. The same thing happened two years ago when we were the 2nd or 3rd ranked team in the country, had lost only 1 game all season, and we got seeded somewhere around where we were seeded this year.
  20. I can't speak for the PD, but I will say that there will be an article on the tournament in this week's University News, which is released each Thursday. The article, as well as the past few men's soccer articles, will be written by yours truly. Also, we will we coming out with our Basketball Preview this week, so I would recommend picking up a copy for any of you who happen to stop by the SLU campus Thursday and the week following. OK, that's all for my shameless plug.
  21. I think I remember Charles Barkley saying something a couple years ago about the irony of the best golfer in the world being black and the best rapper in the world being white, but I'm not sure where the rest of the quote came from.
  22. >coupling in the fact that 6'10" Novak is nothing more than >the second coming of Chris Braun. While I was pretty much in agreement with most of the things you said, I don't agree with this. Novak might not be the next Dwyane Wade for Marquette, but he's definitely not Chris Braun either.
