  1. This is truly a groundbreaking topic. I wonder why no one has ever brought this up before.
  2. We broke 20! Things have offically been worse. Let's work on a few things this half and prepare for the rest of the season!
  3. As I recall, our record was worse each year under Romar and he didn't leave much talent behind. After being Washington's 4th or 5th choice, he's doing well in a well-funded program in a big conference in an area that he is accustomed to recruiting. He's gotten it done there, but I'm not sure you could call him a success here. Being second choice for big name recruits (as Romar was at SLU) is pretty worthless, IMO. I don't think RM gets left holding the bag on wishy washy recruits nearly as much.
  4. An experienced guard would have cut down on the turnovers, but I agree that we couldn't touch this Duke team even with our full lineup. At least his isn't happening against GW.
  5. This wouldn't be a game that I would want to bet. Plenty of variables. We CAN keep the score of games fairly low if RM's gameplan is working. However, we haven't played a team as good as Duke since that UNC game a few years ago. Also, there is a possibility that Duke could run up a big lead and then clear the bench for the final few minutes...allowing us to make it look a little closer. If I had to pick, I'd say this is an 80-50 kind of game. I hope that RM has some tricks up his (sleeve) for this one.
  6. Don't you think WR would have some extra motivation at this point? I can't believe he hasn't been in the weight room. My current gym charges about $15/month. If true, it's disappointing.
  7. +1 The Cards got exclusive negotiationg time with Westbrook as he was a member of the organization. They were able to make an offer before anyone from the outside got to compete.
  8. The risk, IMO, is having no money avaiable at midseason. However, I think it's a risk worth taking.
  9. If Pujols is really older than he claims and everyone knows it, the advantage would be in the Cardinal's hands. You go with a 4 or 5 offer and tell Albert that you spill the beans about his age if he declines. If Albert is really 34, 35, 56, 73, etc., even the Yankees wouldn't go 8 or 10 years on the deal.
  10. Albert got started before MLB knew that players lied about their age?!?!?!?!?!?!? While things have been tougher since 9/11, MLB set up an office in the DR in 2000 to help deal with this problem. It's been going on for decades. Remember David Green?
  11. "bergman" is not insurance in case we move Pujols this year. Pujols will most likely not be moved this year unless the team is 10+ games out at the deadline and there is no chance to resign him. Albert is a 5 & 10 player who would have to approve any deal. As I posted earlier, I wouldn't be shocked if Albert is older than he claims. However, if you can't prove it, you're pretty much talking out of your a$$. Albert is a pretty big story these days. Don't you think that there are people in the DR who know how old he is? If it's that obvious, why has no one spoken up yet?
  12. I'm surprised they didn't have an artist's rendition of SLU, like you see from a courtroom where there are no cameras allowed.
  13. There are plenty of guys on other teams who might make us better, but I'm not sure Harrelson is one of them. While I'm still holding out for a strong finish from this bunch, it looks like we're seeing a lot of player development for next year and beyond. IMO, Harrelson is at best marginally better than anyone we have on the floor now and would have probably been our 7th or 8th man at best if WR and KM were playing. He's not talented enough to be worth the hand wringing, IMO.
  14. Pujols is a 5 & 10 player. He can't be traded unless he approves it.
  15. Can you post some sort of link to prove this "fact"? I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little older, but nothing had ever been verified to my knowledge. Please enlighten us.
  16. Unfortunately, the SEC being in violation of NCAA rules is COLLEGE SPORTS as well. I think they're 2nd in all-time probations behind only the current Big 12. Ahh, the poor SEC.
  17. I don't hate Duke. I don't really care about them one way or another. At least this is a game that's generating some emotion among our fans. We don't get too much of that, so what's the big deal if our fans are up for the game?
  18. Just a few thoughts...I'm sure that corruption is a huge factor here. Also, FIFA talks quite a bit about promoting the game around the world. Not to mention the fact that people here aren't very passionate about the game. All that said, we have the best venues and will easily sell 70K+ tickets to every game played. No other country in the world can match that. BTW, don't forget the corruption factor with the Russians in 2018. They make Italy look like a hippie commune.
  19. At some point we have to accept the roster as it is and try to win games. I don't necessarily disagree with RM on this one. Ellis has been the same player this year so far. That said, missing an entire game is a pretty strong message. Also, I'd rather be missing only 2 starters from last year instead of 3.
  20. RM has been around the block has had past success, and you know he'll do things his way. That said, whenever possible I'm in favor of coaches disciplining players in ways that don't contribute to losses.
  21. I clearly posted that I like college basketball. I like basketball and football (and baseball, hockey, etc.). If I'm following you here, you like college basketball because there are more games on the schedule and, in theory, a couple more interesting games because of that. I can buy that point. Following that thought process you would also have to conclude that there are a lot more uninteresting games as well. My post had nothing to do with why SLU isn't in CUSA (or the Big East). The reason I mentioned the A10 is that it's OUR conference. They have more former members than Spinal Tap but, if they weren't in the business of expanding, why did the A10 go from 12-14 members in 2005? You posted that the A10 has "taken what it can get", which also means that they were interested in adding teams in new markets. Even among great football expansion, the Big East added Marquette and DePaul when they clearly didn't need to. Clearly some basketball conferences have become bigger as well.
  22. and I was agreeing that this wasn't all gloom and doom.
  23. I agree that's it's not all gloom and doom, but this may be more than a 1-year blip IMO. We still have talent, but there are a lot of question marks going into next year. I think RM will be really earning his money over the next 18 months. IMO, this year would have been a strong chance to get in and next year would have been a sure thing. I would now say that next year is a good chance and who knows beyond that?
