  1. Imagine the dry spell between wins at Columbia VS the Huskers. Heck, it was 1973 the last time the football program had tasted victory at Faruot Field against Nebraska. Think about that...many of the posters on this website weren't even alive then! While this was a nice victory for Ol Mizzou, they did not beat a great Nebraska team. They also don't get to celebrate too long either as they have the No.1 rated OU Sooners waiting for them at Norman, OK. It will be interesting to see the outcome of that game, as the oddsmakers don't like MU's chances...they are a 27 point dog in the early line.
  2. CentFLBilliken, Redbirds is the nickname of Illinois State.
  3. I guess that we will have to see what ramifications that will have with our Billiken, CUSA, and what's become conferencegate.
  4. I'd agree with that sentiment, and even go so far as to say that I would not limit it to MVC fans. I don't mind in the least seeing fans of opposing schools on this website and that includes fans of our rival to the West. Actually, I enjoy reading many of their posts as they give a different perspective. Plus it is always fun to see needle them back after they take jabs at our program...all part of being a fan.
  5. I will second Torch's congrat's to Mizzou nation for the big win over Nebraska last night. In all the years that I did have season tickets for Mizzou football, I never saw a Faurot Field win and heck come to find out the last home win was '73 with the last win over the Huskers in '78. Just goes to show that Mizzou in that time has become a basketball school.
  6. Plus school is still out on the notion of whether, or not, to redshirt Husak.
  7. It is funny how in sports one play can and many times does lead to a blowout. Down 13-7 and on GA's one yard line, the Clausen mishandle of the ball leading to GA scoring the late TD led to a back breaking 14 point swing. The Vols early good start beating the hated Gators had Vol Nation very high; however, the last 3 games and one was a win over the Gamecocks have shown weaknesses that Phil Fullmer must address with better coaching that would inclued better recruiting.
  8. All of the years that I did live in St. Louis, MO, I thought that St. Louis always had a more Eastern sort of ambiance while Kansas City, MO had much more of a Western ambiance. I had been to Kansas City numerous times as I had relatives that live in KC. After moving and living in Seattle, WA there was no doubt in my mind that my earlier feelings were pretty much right on. The Billikens belong in the A-10 a league that already has a couple old natural rivals in Xavier and Dayton. I just don't see it any other way.
  9. bonwich, Thanks for sharing the article, and great to see that Fr. Biondi has a sense of humor. I mean I rollled with the PeeWee Firmin take. Not too surprising to see the wit as that is the way I remember several of the Jesuits during my days at SLU.
  10. Probably another good reason to have closed practices the first week.
  11. lovedad, You are so correct about the valuable service that the Billiken.com website provides fans rooting from a good distance. I was able to follow my team through the hard work of first David and now Steve. It makes all Billiken fans happy to see that Justin has continued to excel. I am glad to know that he enjoyed his Billiken career.
  12. My guess is he has academic problems, but maybe our friend p diddy has the real reason.
  13. Wouldn't it be nice if Larry the Legend helped Coach Soderberg with some of the local kids?
  14. We lost out on him and it's time to move on to what we all should hope will be something much better. No use crying over spilt milk!
  15. My take is many of the Goobers that follow that team kind of have the bunker metality what with the NCAA on the way. Sanctions will definitely follow.
  16. Quickdraw, I missed going to Mt St. Helens, but my wife went before the move here to FL. Her take was the same as yours on what it looked like. The keep saying that the conditions are right for one of the volcanos to blow again. However, the thing I always worried about was a major earthquake. We experienced a couple minor ones, but they could get a devastating one at any time. Only worry here in FL is hurricanes and you always know if they are coming. Our house is far enough away and not in a flood plane so I am staying put with any hurricane.
  17. But BRoy, you want your son playing baseball for SLU...to heck with the Harvard notion.
  18. I guess that I have to be lumped into the old timers group, as I actually saw Stan the Man play baseball for the Cardinals. The first time that I watched him play was at the old Busch Stadium aka Sportsman Park. Stan played 1st base then moved out to LF for his final year or two. I met him a couple times at his old restauant. Heck, my wife and I had our wedding reception at that restaurant 25 years this past Tues. He was a very nice man. Before we moved from St. Louis, my wife worked at Barnes St. Peters Hospital and Stan's son in law was a Dr. at that hospital.
  19. SLUNATE, I won't make the festivities again this year, as I will be helping my wife try and root her UT Vols with a win over the hated GA Dawgs.
  20. First of all, I don't consider Cincy and Louisville even close to adequate replacements for VA Tech and Miami...they aren't even worth mentioning when you talk big time BCS football. Last weekend these potential Big (L)East entrants lost to S. Miss and USF. The papers and media folks here in Tampa seem to hold out some hope that USF will get a Big (L)East invite...we shall see on that one. I will say this in Jim Leavitt, USF has one of the birghtest young HC in the country. He was one of the finalists for the Alabama job last year. I would not be surprised if the Florida Gators aren't knocking on his door after they sack Ron Zook. I understand today that Leavitt has not signed a contract extension.
  21. BRoy, Harkening back to my days of having season Mizzou football tickets back in the '70-'80's...Mizzou did have a basketball scrimmage that they encouraged folks at the football game to attend. It was held on the Saturday closet to 10/31. I have no idea if they still have that scrimmage, and you are right that they did have some catchy name for it.
  22. I have not seen him either but I trust BRoy and 3-Star's evaluation of Kevin. The Billikens will be extremely fortunate if they can secure his services and it would be a huge coup for our program. I believe the coaching staff would say the same thing too if they could.
  23. mws26, I'd agree that overall his career in the NBA has not met up with expectations that I had for a lottery pick. I saw him a couple times when I lived in Seattle and was disappointed. Hopefully, for his own sake, he will get it together this year. We'll just have to see what a good preseason translates into. I'm still pulling for this Larry to lift his game.
  24. Geez, that bad boy does resemble the Col...chicken I said chicken!
