  1. but wouldn't it be nice to get some "three star' guy who isn't flying under the radar due to injury or whatever to say, this is where I want to play. I feel that way about Lisch, but he didn't play the AAU circuit and the rest of the world didn't know about his abilities. When we can get this type of player to come here, then we will really be something. mhg
  2. Looks like he is the tallest kid on his HS team, but is listed as a forward. The team lists NO centers. Hopefully his AAU experience has shown coach something, and he is not relying exclusively on his past personal history with the parents. The other teams looking at him aren't exciting. Aren't we once going to go head to head with some school and get a name that excites us? Not necessary for every recruit to do this, but would like to have something to brag about. Just once every two years would be enough. mhg
  3. Lost to Russia 71-50, IV with 9 pts, not on the floor at the end of the game. mhg
  4. I used to have that approach to life. Just get to the next step, then I will work on getting to the higher level. Doesn't work. One can gain satisfaction internally on getting to the next level, but we must aspire, nay, demand that we look to being consistently competitive at a high level. This level is within our capability. It takes the commitment of effort and resources. We can argue whether both of these have been there in the past or the present, but both are needed. I believe we have the coach to do it, still don't know if we have the AD to do it, only because of the short time to observe. Is the administration committed enough to get us there...that is the question I believe any right thinking observer would have to ask. We are truly at a crossroads in this program. We are at the time that a coaching staff has had the necessary time to recruit and work the area to see if they can spot the talent and drive to match the approach they have to D-1 basketball. This will be an important two year stretch. Was last year truly an aberration due to injuries in Tom Frericks and Reggie? Will IV develop further than he showed last year? Will these freshmen play like freshmen or more like the mature experienced, ball savvy players we have been hearing for two years now. It will be fun, but let's demand excellence. It has been a while since I heard TEE or others talk about getting a top 100 recruit in here. They won't come til we win a little, so this will be a fun year. mhg
  5. Wonder who Izak will be rooting for. mhg
  6. kid, you may know a whole bunch of names of hs kids who can dunk and show boat, but you don't know SQAUT about Billiken basketball or life. Sit back and read, learn, then open your mouth. There is a whole lot more to the history of SLU basketball than what you have seen in your short time watching TV. To have your jersey retires requires more than one season at the school, and winning one game in the NCAA. It is the total contribution. Every time you open your mouth, the world learns the emptiness that lies behind your tongue. mhg
  7. could you fill in some bio info on these guys, schools attending, towns, positions, etc? mhg
  8. This would be huge for prestige. I hope the Sports Commission is working with them on this. Great way to show off the campus, (the new arena...lol), the city, etc. Yes, good luck to the AD. mhg
  9. Does it bother anyone else that Husak has to go to Hammerbodies, to get stronger and gain weight? Shouldn't the University be putting the full weight (no pun there) of its resources on strengthening and building up the potential cornerstone of our front line in a few years? Where does the university's responsibilities end in any case like this? When an athlete has needs for the off-season, can a school work one-on-one with him for indirect benefits, ie not actually playing ball, but these areas of nutrition, fitness, academic help? mhg
  10. Let's try this....With the addition of the outside threats and the improved passing I expect, I believe Vouyoukos will be the team leader in points this year. They won't be able to double team him like they did last year, he will be a year wiser, so if they do double team him, he will distribute. The limiting factor will be how quickly he gets pulled when he picks up fouls, as I don't see Husak being especially effective this year backing up IV. mhg
  11. Not modest, but an appropriate proposal. I will follow. mhg
  12. you wouldn't know him. He is open minded, listens to those who are speaking to him, gives short, succinct answers to questions, and doesn't act as though he has all the knowledge in the world on a subject. mhg
  13. Wait..can I have a one-on-one talk session with the shuffleboard writer from the PD? I think it would be incredibly interesting to alllllll the shufflers out there to watch me talk to him about how much I know about shufflers, local shufflers mind you, since I know them all, and for those that I don't, I know someone who knows them, and I have the inside, correct, don't bother me with the facts information about them as well....Oh! your his relative? pooh! I know more than you do, I know what was in his head 6 months ago when everyone else was saying a hundred different things about him. mhg
  14. Isn't it obvious? We should decide on this board, ignore any pre season, any practice performance. We should have a shuffleboard All Star Game, and then argue over who played the best two-three years ago. Then we can start the season right there. In fact, we need not even play the games, cause we already KNOW who will have the most points, turnovers, play the best defense, be the best TEAM players, have the most cool at the end of a close shuffleboard match.....we can predict this, cause we saw ONE ALL STAR match.
  15. you just don't get it. it isn't the number of times you post, it is more the content.....well, the number is a bit too, too. mhg
  16. Wait now. We are the third tenant in the pecking order at Savvis, because all the concerts, Disney on Ice and everything else comes before the Billikens. Those dates are set way in advance of our schedule, so that limits our ability to schedule teams to come to St Louis. The moneys will work when the women's bball and the volleyball teams play in front of 2-4K, with the parking and concessions money they bring in. Plus the cost of renting the Savvis for graduation, income from the concerts on campus, etc enhancing the student life. Presently the school gets none of the skybox revenue from the Savvis. The boosters to the school will have increased incentive to purchase boxes at the school. The Biondi Dome is still a viable option. The Blues arent going anywhere. It would make sense if the team wasn't drawing well. The cost structure from the city needs to change, plus strong leadership from the NHL (sorry, that will never happen)...at least improved limits on payroll to prevent the situation they are in at present. We need the new place to play for recruiting, scheduling and improved revenue streams.
  17. mentions Will John with good play in the second half of the US win over Egypt in the Youth Soccer Championships, US wins 1-0. US moves on to the next round. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-w...ov=ap&type=lgns mhg
  18. at the all star game....anyone know who is going to play? I called Fontbonne and they didn't have a clue. mhg
  19. Heard an ad on the radio for a DJ All Star Game June 18 at Fontbonne. Are there two games or is this the real one? mhg
  20. This is the third year in a row we have begun the off season with "We have lost our two top scorers from last year". The scoring will have to improve for sure. I believe it will be much more balanced than before, since the inside guy will be huge and be able to deliver inside and distribute as well. The key will be the ability of the guys to hit the outside shots we weren't making last year. I am pumped for the next season. This will be a great year. mhg
  21. I heard about this weeks ago, but didn't want to spill it since my source told me to keep it quiet. I think this is huge for the women's program. As I have said for a while, the success of the on campus facility lies with the women's bball and vball programs, as right now we are generating NO dollars for the AD with these programs. Parking, admission and concession dollars can help out alot here, as well as show a whole host of kids and their parents how beautiful the place is. Hope this signing is to the women's program what Tommy and Kevin is to the men's program. mhg
  22. When is the DJ Allstar game this year? Are all of our new players participating? mhg
  23. as I never get my votes registered on the polls for some reason. VT has some good points, is consistent in his singular purpose and once you get past his incredible St Louis bias, he offers a point of view not previously held with such passion. TT is a sore, a scab, which just will not go away. Rarely does he ever post anything that makes you say, Boy, I never thought of that...good point. I must say I no longer read any of his stuff, so if he changed his approach to Billiken bball, I wouldn't know it. This tiger will never change his stripes, though. TT gets my vote. I would give him ten votes if I could. There....I felt better. mhg
