The Big12 needs more teams to be eligible for a league playoff game in football. I expect the Big12 to revisit league expansion in 2012 and Cincy should be positioned to be in that discussion. If UConn and Cincy leave, the BE is doomed. Yes, they can plug in Temple and a few other football schools but I think they are in real danger of losing their BCS status for football ... it which case the house of cards collapses. From SLU's perspective, we want the cabal known as the BE to hold together for at least a few more years while we build our basketball resume.

At least we are still in the conversation. We will be under the media radar until the big game @new mexico. Win there, then win @dayton and we should be back in the spot light. Easier said than done. Let's take care of business against Vermont first.

If memory serves, Manning entered the game in the first half. That backs up your point that Manning is up to speed with Rick. As to Grandymama, he brings something we lack; however, we don't need him to contribute this season. After Bonecrusher leaves, the team will need his presence in the paint. We'll see where he is at next year.

It should be a Grandy game. That's my new barometer, does Grandy see the court? He got a rebound last game. I'm greedy. I want to see Grandy score against Vermont.

I was thinking it could have used a Pee Wee Leonard reference (to go with Luther Burden) but that's a quibble.

+1 We have a bunch of kids who are very strong scholar-athletes. Rick isn't building Thug U. I don't really care about the APR score other than if we get penalized. It's meaningless for anything other than whether or not a school gets penalized. Rick transferred out a bunch of kids early in his regime and took some questionable kids early when our recruiting options were limited. Looking at the kids we are getting now shows that this APR thing is a short-term issue. It will go away in due time. Hope it doesn't cost us a scholarship in the process ... but, if it does, that's water under the bridge. I'm personally not going to huff and puff about it. Let's move on.

I think kmb is on to something. In an eastern mysticism sort of way, we are the Billikens and the Billikens are us. We are on the court with them. We win with them. We lose with them. And we share in the blame. Yes, we look in the mirror and see that ugly Billiken mascot head staring back at us. But no use all of us take a guilt trip over it. I like the idea of scapegoat. Blackhand can be a candidate. Maybe courtside had something to do with it? Metz snuck into town and was on TV, which makes him a suspect. Billikenroy is also a strong candidate for scapegoat. It just might be that Billikenroy put some bad juju karma on the team because too much good press was raining down on Rick after we cracked the top 25. Yes, if we open our eyes there is a scapegoat among us.

Agree it is not but my take is that we are not as good as some of us were beginning to believe. The team is deep. Against LMU, we went 10 deep. Barnett hadn't played at all the previous three games. However, I note that Kwamain played 36 minutes against OKL and then 32 against LMU. Bonecrusher also played big minutes both games--29 and 35. I remember watching the OKL game and noting that we had a big lead yet Conk and Kwamain played almost the entire second half. Rick was all in for that game. Still, we should have had enough firepower on the bench to beat a team like LMU but we obviously didn't. Kyle Cassity is a huge disappointment to me. This was the sort of game where we really needed him to step into the void and help lift his tired teammates. 2 pts on freethrows, no pts from the field. 1 board. 3 assts. 3 turnovers. 26 minutes. You can't play a shooting guard for 26 minutes who doesn't score.

Is this a bad thing? I missed the LMU girls but do appreciate the entertainment ability value of stripper girls. They work hard. Tough business.

How does that happen? A jekyll / hyde, a superfan / uber troll, gets interviewed on "billiken fever". Metz does have a fever but it is a serious medical condition.

I swear someone is giving The Dictator a headsup on the ramblings on the board. Today is the first time I ever recall anyone talking about the dearth of playing time for Jake Barnett and low and behold The Dictator aka Cockstrong inserts Barnett into a tied game in the middle of the first half.

This seems to be a fair assessment of Jake's situation. Absent injury, I don't see him getting much court time this season. Even when one of the starting guards gets in foul trouble it has just meant more minutes for Jett / McCall and not that coach goes deeper to play Barnett. His calling card was supposed to be shooting and I was disappointed when I got a look at his shot in the preseason games. Awkward. Agree with Roy that he should rebuild his shot in the offseason in preparation for challenging for a spot in the rotation in 2012-2013. Nobody should be handed playing time on a platter. Jake will have to go out there and fight for it next season, which makes our team better no matter who ends up taking Cassity's minutes the following season.

We did "one huge Billiken train" last season and didn't turn out so good.
