It seems like I could be nit-picking with a lopsided victory. True, but with Saint Louis looming, we must be fundamentally strong. They will make you pay for mistakes on defense. They are a motion team that is constantly screening and moving. They will try and keep possessions low and we can’t fall into the trap of taking quick shots.

Defensively, they play pack line defense, very similar to Virginia. It will be a great test for our young team. Anas and Ray continue to improve. Both players pass the ball extremely well and help us get high percentage shots by reading defenses. This is an area that Mangok and Jaylen must improve. We opened up with home games to gain some confidence. Now we travel to a neutral site in Brooklyn, New York. I’ve never seen the Barclays Center and look forward to seeing some old friends. It will be a very small crowd and we must generate our own emotion.

I think it's interesting that he says we play the pack-line defense. That is the D that Soderberg learned under Bennett at Wisconsin. Pack inside to take away the easier basket sometimes at the expense of giving up more outside shots. I don't know enough about basketball to recognize that slight shift from the Majerus man to man we were playing but I'll go with what Pitino says.

Overall I do like the "new offense" which seems to be a variation on the motion with emphasis on passing inside and back out. The motion is working pretty well as down low we have guys that are accurate passers. MY had a bucketload of assists, AG and so is RA. So while our post players are lacking in scoring and rebounding they are effective in the offense in passing well. Hopefully they become more consistent scorers (RA, AG, MN) then the possibilities really open up more.

Wow. Sorry, I just thought it was interesting.

Thanks for posting. I thought it was interesting too.

Not sure about "try and keep possessions low" with a 30 second shot clock now and we DO seem to run more than in the past. This game will I think give everyone an idea of what we really have with this team.

It seems to me that Pitino just dusted off some old notes from our earlier game and did not really look at any film of our first four games. We have done nothing to keep possessions low this year except maybe to look for a good shot in the offense. I have never seen any game this year where we played the old "pack defense".
