Here is this week's report card............. .....,,..........,Bills ( F+ ) ...........................................................UMass ( B- ) PPG............F-..3rd worst in nation.........................................C- Slash...........F-...12th worst in nation / D- / F+.......................C- / F- 16th worst in nation / F+ O Reb..........D-.........................................................................C TOs............D+...........................................................................F+ Opp TOs...F..............................................................................A D Reb.......D-...........................................................................F+ D Slash....C-/ D+...................................................................A / A UMass is not a very good team offensively. They shoot worse than we do from the arc and charity stripe and have more TOs than we do. Their D Reb is worse than us too. Their scorers are Clark and Holloway. In addition Holloway leads in rebs, FG%(63%) and blks. While Holloway is a beast they definitely have some weakness on the offensive side. But UMass is all about the D. And again we are faced with the question ....What happens when one of the best defenses faces one of the worst offenses? The 20 pt monster will again rear his head. Realistically , we should be able to score in the 40s and with a decent night in the 50s. Bottom line...UMass has trouble protecting the ball ...it is not unusual for them to turn it over 16 times. If we could get them to do that and some how protect the ball (11 TOs) we would have a chance. This assumes we can shoot normal...which is a big assumption. Old guy Posted January 25, 2017 Share Posted January 25, 2017 Expected Bishop to be out, but was hoping Moore could be in. We have a game coming with significant minutes likely going to Neufled, Gillmann, and perhaps even Psimitris, like the one we just played against Dayton. He did not factor in the black swan slash line of Longtime Season Ticket Holder/Fan of the Game/Autographed Basketball. The Bills even in victory lived up to the slogan...It isn't easy being a Bills fan. In true Billiken style,the Bills final basket came at the 7 36 mark of the second half. The next 18 pts were all FTs. The Bills set 2 all time records tonight. ...1st the most FTA...55...beating the X game of 1985 and 2nd the most FTM...39 ..beating the WV game of 1960. All this from a team which grades out at F+ in FT shooting. How can this be? Something happened at the LaSalle game when we started hitting FTs. In the previous 4 games to LaS, we couldn't hit 60% and were going at an F- rate. Since LaS we haven't shot less than 70% and have averaged over 74%. We must have been practicing FTs over the New Years holiday.. In any case we made 18 more FTs than UMass and that was the difference. . It should be noted here the Bills only made seven 2pt shots the whole game (also seven 3pt shots)...game total 14 baskets. Also in my original post , I said we need to make UMass turn the ball over 16 times...they turned it over 17. While our 18 TOs is not good the differential was only 1 so TOs didn't hurt us tonight.. Another plus was... we stopped Clark and Hollaway.. And finally, even though UMass is a terrible shooting 3pt team (F-...16 th worst in the nation ) the Bills managed to take their weak 29% and nearly cut it in half with a 16% showing. Bottomline....40 full min of basketball wins it...there were a few bends but the Bills didn't break. . A strange night of basketball. It is only right that it happened at The Wiz night at the Fetz.
