Tonka
Sorry for the delay! As you might expect this is not necessarily cut and dry. First of all, SLU does not offer correspondence classes. If somebody were applying to SLU, they would have to go through the application process first. If and when they are approved then the student's transcript is viewed to see what classes might be transferrable. If a student has a credit from a correspondence class it may or may not be transferred over. If it is from a 4 year accredited school, than it may. It will not apply to their degree, but if they need a math credit or something it may apply to that. All transfer credits are also reviewed on a case by case basis. There may be correspondence classes that come from a 4 year accredited school and still may not be transferrable. If a student has a majority of correspondence classes as credits that need to be transferred, then more than likely most will not be transferrable, but it will depend on the circumstance such as why the individual chose the path of mostly correspondence classes, what school they came from as well a step by step process in the dtermination process. SLU's appraoch toward education today is not consistent with correspondence classes. That's not to say it won't at some point in the future, but when accepting any credits from any other institution the review process is pretty stringent. MUFAN2000
I think that's the same policy as just about everywhere, IMO.
Tonka
Well, how much are you willing to donate to the "program"?
bonwich
AJ, above: "He was going to check on Wash U's stance on accepting a transfer student, who took a correspondence course." Yup, he sure was, wasn't he. I'm beginning to wonder if Mizzou mandates correspondence courses as a requirement to earn a degree there. billiken_roy
so to summarize, slu doesnt like them. they dont offer them and most likely will only accept a few spot credits for admission purposes only. they do not transfer creditwise at all. it sounds to me that mr clemons wouldnt have gotten into slu. Quality Is Job 1
No, they do transfer as credits (what good would they be, otherwise?), but they don't apply towards satisfying requirements for courses in the student's major. They could serve as electives.
Quickdraw
I suspect Mizzou has a strict policy of not accepting more than 12 correspondence credit hours for any 8 week period.
aj_arete
Wash U's policies. If Wash U accepts correspondence courses, that's good enough for me.
