BLIKNS
Hope this is the right board for this. Seen the leagues at the post website and they have moved around, just wondering?Thoughts? Rockhurst(football) looks very tough, but did lose the great multipurpose back. They play Liberty in the first round, who they beat 47-7 for Liberty`s only loss. When was the last time SLUH went to the state tourney for basketball?
VTIME
Suburban North and PHL for basketball. Sub North for football
thetorch
For football it is hands down Sub North. Occasionally Sub South can compete but up and down no one is close. Year in year oout the top 4 teams in Sub north could win any other conference in the area. The ABC also has some very good teams. Bball if we are only talking Missouri then it may be the MCC. Otherwise whatever league EStl and Edwardsville are in is much better than any conference in St. Louis. The PHL stinks. They ave all world Vashon and usually one other decent team whether it is Beaumont or Gateway. The other teams in the league are horrible. BBall in the area is much more spread out than football. Small schools can beat large schools on a regular basis. No conference dominates basketball in the area like the Sub north dominates football. kevinfootes
SLUH lost to DeSmet for the state basketball championship I think in 1983. The game featured Jim Roeder and Ted Mimlitz, both future Billikens. I believe it was a 1 or 2 point game. SLUH has won the state basketball championship, but not since the '50s or '40s. courtside
This probably better on the other board. But for many years now, Kansas City and Columbia have had a stranglehold on HS football. STL generally produces a few very good skill position guys, and some others, but it isn't by any means a football hotbed. average. Hoops, again similar....with exceptions as well...for the state as a whole. Not a lot of major D I talent most years. Enjoyable high school games. DeSmet beat SLUH for the state hoops title in 1982...and until I believe last year or year before from at least 1986(or possibly earlier than that) SLUH played DeSmet minimum twice a year and lost every game. They were good in the early to mid 80's and before. But they have not been good since. Long time coach since Mimlitz retired, Don Mauer was let go a few years back, and went out and landed at MICDS and won a small schools state title immediately after zero success at SLUH. John Ross has been the coach last so many years...and he prefers up tempo ball, plays with smart scrappy, less talented kids up til this point. All of the MCC coaches know each other and all of their systems and tricks backwards and forwards. Frankly the conference has been down for a few years. davidnark
Actually, I believe that SLU won the state title in 1962, with Rich Grawer as one of the starters in the backcourt.

Battlecat455
East St. Louis and Edwardsville are in the Southwestern Conference, along with Collinsville, Alton, O'Fallon, Granite City and the Belleville public schools.
Box and Won
You are correct. I was just reading an article about Grawer that mentioned that.
