Field Hockey @ La Salle Abandoned Due to Nearby Gunfire

This could be a signal that they don’t believe that La Salle is looking to move venues. But that’s purely speculation.

I can’t believe Temple played there the next day.

I can’t beleive Monmouth didn’t tell them to find a new place to play because we’re not coming there, don’t care if that’s a forfeit or not. I still think there was a deliberate attempt to sweep it all under the rug, by either Temple, LaSalle, the City of Philadelphia, or all three. I guess the logic is “Big field, small bullets, the kids are nimble, they can dodge the close ones, so best not to generate any negative publicity on this”

I made it down there, there were a lot of people there, and they did a good job of filling up the bleachers. There were a lot of students as well, I saw a group from the women’s basketball team led by Peyton Kennedy and Bri Johns. Since I had never seen a field hockey game before I found the nuances of the rules incomprehensible, and I just cheered when the rest of the crowd did. Davidson won 3-2. Incidentally the SLU coach found the referees interpretation of the rules incomprehensible as well, and drew a yellow card.  If a coach gets a yellow card, it means one of the players on the team has to serve the penalty by going to the penalty box (i.e., the folding plastic chairs by the scorers table). On one ball the SLU player hit the ball over the fence and onto Chouteau, fornutately no car was driving on the road at that time. Those balls look like they have a better than average chance of taking out a windshield. The water jets looked awesome, if I could figure out a way to rig one up to turn on when a porch pirate came by I’d install one at my house. Those were the highlights of the game I remember, again I have no idea what the rules were.

I feel the same way when I watch Rugby or Lacrosse.
