NKOTB, i'd suppose... we'll get there, step by step.

Just a guess on my part, but payouts are based upon a six-year payout. SLU was not a member of the A-10 during four of the last six years and didn't have a single NCAA appearance during that period. I presume that Charlotte received some credit for their pre-A-10 apperances, while SLU only receives a "non-generating" share of the A-10 payout for last season.

That could be it. I read an article about this recently, but can't remember enough to apply the formula though. I think you're onto something.

I think that is a logical guess as to what could be happening. What is surprising is that CUSA would have "let" Charlotte take any of the NCAA credits they earned in the 4 years prior to the A-10, and why Charlotte would even put them into the A-10 pot for distribution.

I'm also a little surprised at how little sharing is going on in the conference considering that Xavier and St. Joes are getting about 3X the revenue that the Fordhams of the world are getting. I know the Big 12 is much more communistic in nature as the revenues get split close to evenly, regardless of who earns them. I'll be an optimist and say this will be a good thing a few years down the line when we are dancing every year we get to keep more of the revenue to ourselves...

Considering performance I would think UMASS would be more upset with this formula than we would be.

Remember leaving CUSA was different then when we left the MCC. Since both Charlotte and us had no football, they kind of wanted us out rather then both of us opting to get out. Therefore maybe Charlotte made a big enough stink when leaving (with recent NCAA appearances), that they, through the A10, was able to get some of the income generated by those appearances.
