Check what Hoosier Pal posted coming from a newspaper reporter that interviewed Schertz late last night:

    https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/columnists/gregg-doyel/2024/04/02/indiana-state-into-nit-final-as-coach-josh-schertz-considers-saint-louis-job-basketball/73178991007/

This piece clearly says that Schertz will take a day off to think what he is going to do after tomorrow's NIT championship game is over before making up his mind and announcing his decision.

What this means is that he apparently has things to think about (like other options) before deciding what he is going to do. Therefore you know ahead of time that whatever it is that SLU or people in St. Louis release, Schertz does not intend to declare his decision for another full day.

This may well not be a done deal, one option with no other option available deal, that Schertz has to make up his mind about. Please remember that the information above is from the Indy Star, and it may not be valid, but it may also indicate he has to decide where he will go to, or even if he wants to stay where he is at. We have to wait and see. Whatever announcement is released by SLU or by St. Louis sources right after the NIT championship game cannot be accepted as a valid cause for celebration until Schertz 's confirmation that he is coming here is received.

Doyel actually talked to Schertz, per the article, so his conversation should be accurate......Schertz didn't say anything.  As you mentioned Schertz says he will take a day to decide.  He won't be announcing anything from the locker room on Thursday immediately after the game.  Some MBM's will go ballistic.

After NIT, Josh Schertz to Saint Louis. Right?

Nobody was asking Josh Schertz after this game about the Saint Louis Billikens. No idea what a Billiken is, but I’m calling it an elephant — you know, the one nobody’s talking about.

Schertz or his agent — a distinction that matters more to Schertz and his agent than it should to you and me — has been in talks with Saint Louis about its coaching vacancy since shortly after Indiana State’s loss to Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament March 10. That was almost a month ago, and I'm told Schertz has indicated to Saint Louis he’s coming. It’s an open secret in the Sycamores’ locker room that four of their five starters would most likely follow him to Saint Louis. The one player not going? Julian Larry.

After his news conference I followed Schertz into the hall to ask him privately about Saint Louis, and don’t even think about getting mad at me for that. You want to get mad? Get mad at the coach who’s halfway out the door — not the reporter who asked him about it. My advice: Don’t get mad at anyone. Saint Louis would more than quadruple Schertz’s salary, from less than $500,000 to $2 million or more, and how can you get mad at him for that? Meantime, he hasn’t left yet, didn’t abandon his team. He’s still coaching the Sycamores, and deflecting questions about Saint Louis.

Here’s what he told me late Tuesday night.

“I never, ever talk about a job other than the one I have,” he said, “but I know that’s on everybody’s mind. The reality is, I’m going to take a day when the season’s over, make a decision, and everybody we’ve communicated with knows that’s kind of the plan of it. I know everybody’s speculating, but at the end of the day we’ll finish the season and obviously play to Thursday — which I’m looking forward to — and then take a day. I don’t want to make an emotional decision. I’m going to take a day and lock in on what I want to do and then decide what’s best.”

Coaches everywhere, print that out. Because that’s how you handle a situation as delicate as this. Schertz made no promises and told no lies, and said nothing to alienate either school.

Ya thanks for editing that post cause that didn't make any sense.

Again I wouldn't expect you to understand. I look forward to your post on a SLU message board celebrating the trees win tonight.

Of course I’m for the Trees. Why not?  I like the coach and I like the team. You don’t?

Because he needs the clicks. He annoys me as well but if the entire SLU fanbase ignores him than the post gives us less attention than they already do.

But I guess when you aren't a SLU fan stuff like that probably isn't important to you I suppose. But ya that's why it's important  for everyone to read everything he does.

So clicks on this board counts?  Wow.
I trust two less clicks wouldn’t mean Stu loses his job

    Bad assumptions by you.

Stu Durando really pushes my buttons.  Even his stupid April fools joke yesterday re: mizzou vs SLU made me dislike him more.

Then why do you read him?  Simply pass over his stuff and remove some stress from your life.

But if he’s leaving, Schertz hasn’t told his team yet, according to a source. And Schertz did nothing to provide hints at an NIT press conference ahead of tonight's meeting with Utah at 6 p.m.

A source in Indianapolis said Schertz has not informed players or staff members about whether he is leaving — “No indication at all” — and likely would not until after the last game. Media who cover the team have not received any indication from Schertz about his future.

Keshon Gilbert averaged 13.7 for Iowa State this year.  I wouldn’t call that a flame out.

He was the leading scorer on the Cyclones who won the Big 12.  I believe he transferred in from UNLV, was solid there also as their second leading scorer his sophomore year.

Someone called him a flame out?  Really?

Well, yes, would love to get him back to SLU.  But an advanced degree from a top business school like Northwestern would look nice on the resume.

Yes, there are several wild cards in this portal jump.  Kelly School of Business at IU is top notch also.  And I"m sure SluSignGuy knows of the potential academic benefits at Georgetown.

There are several unique twists to this portal jump.  Most have been discussed already.  His relationship to Coach Tate, how important is that?  His girlfriend?  Would she/could she transfer?

Dr. C gave him an internship last summer.  Is there a tie between those two gentlemen that would pressure Jimerson to stay at SLU - future job potential?  Or would Chaifetz hire Jimerson post hoops, for full time employment no matter where he goes to finish his academic career?

Most portal jumps are about the highest amount of money available.  I'm guessing there are other as important issues here.

This will be a big topic as soon as the head coach presser is concluded...

These are the players that remain:

     Brad

    Thames

    Hughes

    Curcic

    Zhang

    Magassa

I expect most of these to be gone, I think Thames could serve a nice bench role and I wouldn't have a problem if Curcic stuck around to develop. I'm okay if Hughes is willing to accept a MUCH smaller role, but wouldn't blame him for moving on. Brad could provide some value off the bench, but I would be surprised if he stuck around.

We'll be glued to the portal to see when ISU players hit it - other than the 5 starters, I don't see anything on their bench. The three ISU recruits could be in play. I think the only way Gibby possibly comes back is if one of the ISU guards doesn't come over.

No one has mentioned Williford.  Has he requested out of his NLI?  I know nothing about his situation nor his basketball skills.

Some players in the portal have already committed to new schools. Let's lose on Tuesday and get this going. A lot of work to do.

According to Verbal Commits Transfer list, 1108 are in the portal today and 42 have committed to schools, including those returning to their original school. Their totals change several times per day, so they may be fairly accurate.

There will be more enticing entries following the Sweet 16.
