OT on this topic, but Butler announced Thad Matta is returning for his 4th season. From the Indy Star: Butler men's basketball coach Thad Matta will be returning as the Bulldogs head coach next season, per Butler athletic director Grant Leiendecker. Jeff Goodman of TheFieldOf68 was the first to report Matta's return to Butler. There was speculation that the longtime coach would be retiring at the end of the 2024-25 season, but Leiendecker said that is not the case and the status of Matta's job was never in question. "We are committed to Coach Matta and that commitment is mutual," Leiendecker told IndyStar. Matta is currently in his third season of his second stint at Butler. The Bulldogs are 13-17 overall and 6-13 in the Big East, eighth in the conference. Matta is 69-58 in three seasons at Butler. He went 24-8 in his first stint as coach during the 2000-01 season. He's 484-204 overall between Butler, Xavier and Ohio State.

The Ivy League is 'opting out' of revenue sharing structured in the House settlement. “This decision to ‘not opt in’ means the Ivy League and its schools … will continue to provide an educational intercollegiate athletics model that is focused on academic primacy and the overall student-athlete experience,” Robin Harris, the Ivy’s executive director wrote in a statement. She added that opting out of the settlement does not impact student athletes’ opportunity to market their individual NIL rights and secure legitimate NIL-related payments from a third-party sponsor. https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/ivy-league-opts-out-of-house-settlement-3828891/ And as of March 5, Sienna does not intend to opt into the House Agreement. And apparently the deadline has been extended to June 15 so Sienna has time to reconsider. https://www.timesunion.com/sports/article/siena-athletics-does-not-intend-opt-house-v-20201468.php

I didn't want to start a new OT thread, so I'm putting this here. Not 2025 SLU recruits, unfortunately, but if you are interested in local hoops, here is a game to see tonight. • The area's top-two scorers, seniors Luke Walsh (33 ppg) of Vianney and Zyree Collins (31.9 ppg) of St. Mary's, will look to lead each other's team in a rematch of last year's Class 5 District 2 title game on Friday. Vianney (17-10) plays host to St. Mary's (17-9) in a Class 5 District 2 semifinal, with the winner advancing to face either Webster Groves (22-5) or Lutheran South (15-11) in the final on Monday.

https://x.com/RoccSTL/status/1897760667056181697 @RoccSTL·47m Here some catharsis for #Billikens fans Schertz was asked about the Amari injury (he will go in practice today to see how he’s feeling) and here was his answer on what he saw from the play. I got a few messages about Key’s screening in the postgame so it jumped out to me.

Yes BR is right. I posted this before, but here it is again. Three or More-Team Tie 1. Head-to-head competition. a. Use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group rather than performance against individual teams. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or .000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2. 2. If the above results in two teams remaining, the two-team tiebreaker is used. 3. If more than two teams still remain, use the Conference record of the tied teams based on winning percentage versus the highest common opponent and proceeding down to the lowest common opponent, if necessary, until one team gains an advantage. a. All ties are broken in descending order. b. When arriving at another pair of tied teams, use each team’s record against the tied teams as a group. When comparing records against a group of teams, the higher winning percentage will prevail. In case of tied percentages vs. the team or group of 1.000 or .000, the following shall apply: 2-0 is better than 1-0; 0-1 is better than 0-2.

Last chance for The Bills to finish 4th..The BUT theory
HoosierPal replied to The Wiz's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
You are a wise man not looking it up. Which seed has won recent A10 tourneys is irrelevant. Also irrelevant is the fact that there have been 8 different tourney winners in the past 8 A10 tourneys. Those two statements are simply historical information and have no impact on the upcoming tourney. -
Just saw this from Stu. @studurando The SLU basketball flight home from Dayton was canceled Tuesday night and again this morning due to weather. Instead of waiting until tonight to fly back, the team is taking a bus. https://x.com/studurando/status/1897355634041086464

Jordan Goodwin signs 2 way contract with Lakers
HoosierPal replied to thetorch's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Goodwin rolled his ankle in the Lakers' 106-102 win over the Clippers on Friday and was unable to play a single minute in the fourth quarter. There were fears that the 26-year-old might be out for a while, but he should be back soon enough. https://fadeawayworld.net/nba/los-angeles-lakers/jj-redick-provides-update-jordan-goodwins-ankle-injury-best-version-bad-news -
There were errors in the lists. Cross overs with college name changes, etc. I asked Brian that same question a few seasons ago.

Jordan Goodwin signs 2 way contract with Lakers

Dave McMenamin @mcten Austin Reaves (right calf) and Jordan Goodwin (right ankle) have been ruled out of tonight’s game against the Clippers, the Lakers announced -
I think I agree. If the Bills, St Joe and Loyola all go 2-0, that kicks out Dayton as they would have another L via us. So that leaves a three way tie. All are 1-1 against each other, so our W against VCU gives us the initial tiebreaker. Don't care if St Joe or Loyola gets #4 and 'm going to do the research to figure it out.

I've read that SLU, St. Bonnie, VCU, and George Mason all are 'opting in' for paying players next season. I'll assume that all A10 teams are in but just haven't publicized the decision. [If they don't opt in, their future is bleak.] VCU reported is in at $5M, George Mason at $3M. Today I read that Richmond is 'in' but will only pay the Men's and Women's basketball players. They are the only A10 school which I have read about that specifies paying only basketball players. It will be interesting to see how non-revenue sports are compensated (or not) moving forward.

Coach Schertz on the Radio 4/28 Press Box w/Frank
HoosierPal replied to HoosierPal's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Schertz, KMOX Sports on a Sunday Morning 3/2 Most complete team performance of the year. Robbie posting was the best way we put pressure on the rim. Rob is more comfortable now being guarded by a smaller player. Through the first 11 games, defense was horrific. Discipline, communication are key to the improvement. Lots of things on D aren't seen in the box scores and are 'invisible plays'. Only had one day of court prep for Loyola. Guys have gotten much better on the process. The break we had was a recharge from mental fatigue, not physical fatigue. Had long road trips, tough games. Great time to reset. Told the guys to get away for three days. Good to refocus. Looked at the remaining 5 games as a whole new season. So 3-0 with two to go. Swope was on at Davidson. Defense kept us in the Davidson game during the first half. Guys play until the final whistle. Rob's last shot was incredible, under/over Bailey. Nothing better than playing high stake games in March. Team Goal #1 is to play to standard. Goal #2, be at our best when it matters most - which is now. Elimination time comes for every team. You can't have a special season unless you perform well in the post season. Here is the A10 tie breaker formula: https://atlantic10.com/news/2015/2/21/209901106.aspx If we have a two way tie with Loyola or St. Joe, we have the tiebreaker with our win over VCU. Three way ties get a little more complicated, but our VCU win is very important. St. Joe has Rhody at home and then at LaSalle. Could be / should be 2 W but the Philly rivalry game could be interesting. It will be Dunphy's last home game. Loyola has Davidson at home and then goes to UMass for their final game in the A10. Shakey to assume two W. Dayton has us at their place and then they go to VCU. Toughest ending of the tied four. Don't overlook our final against Duquesne. When they show up they are tough, just as George Mason. But half the time they are on cruise control.

If the tourney started today, we are still #5 due to 4 way tiebreakers.

VCU has an interesting NET Team Sheet. Their one blemish is a Q4 loss to Seton Hall in November. Yes, that Seton Hall, the Big East pride and joy, was a Q4 loss on a neutral site. If Seton Hall manages to win a game or two, that L could move up to a Q3 loss, which would vastly improve the optics for VCU. The Hall has a 207 NET rating, and to move to a Q3 loss for VCU, that needle needs to be 200 or better.

I believe the NCAA granted Calipari a lifetime pass into the tourney when he was at Kentucky. After Boeheim retired, they had an extra one to give out. By all measures VCU should be in. A key game for them will be their season finale against Dayton. That should be a Q2 game, which would enhance their resume. Right now they are 7-4 in Q1/Q2 games. UC San Diego has a wart on their schedule, a Q4 loss to Seattle early in the season. Yea, they get the shaft while a 6-12 SEC team gets their bid. Just wait.

@3star_recruit I'm interested in your thoughts on why Luke Walsh was not a fit for SLU, or why he 'got away'? The young man is averaging 33 ppg and hitting 42.5% on 3FGs. That accuracy alone seems to be what Schertz is looking for in his offense. Or is Schertz waiting to possibly get him in the portal a few seasons down the road?
