  1. Actually, Dayton made the NCAAB final two in 1968 and lost to UCLA.
  2. Thank you Dwayne's_World, this clip shows this kid has an impressive ability to jump and dunk
  3. Taj you will be missed, have a great summer. As far as your monograph level post above, it could be summarized in a simple way. People see what they want to see. I have been guilty as well of optimism for our team during this past year. I do not take this personally, I also see what I really want to see and confuse with reality at times, this is my fault I know. All the best for summer and hope your return will be greeted by a much better season next year (see how it goes, this is what I really want to see next year).
  4. Agree 13, there is very little real information as to how the team has been "fixed up" except for the two players that transferred out. We will have to wait until November, or maybe until later in the season, to see how we do.
  5. I think the Wiz identified the win against LaSalle as the final time when the team rose to the occasion, only to lose the remaining games. This, he reasoned, indicated that something had gone radically wrong inside the team. I agree fully with the Wiz's statement. Whether the problem or problems was due to issues between players, or players and staff, or coach and players,or even multiple layers of problems at different levels has never been clear. What is clear, and has been clear for some time, is the absolute need to correct whatever it was that went wrong at that time. This may be as simple as eliminating a couple or players, but in reality it may be a complex combination of issues that require correction. So, where do we stand after the separation of TL and AM? If we look at the glass half empty, there may be multiple areas of friction or dysfunction within the team left untouched as yet. If we look at the glass half full, the problem has been completely eliminated. I am afraid reality is likely to lie between these extremes. Now then, it should be beyond a doubt to anyone that it is the head coach's responsibility to effect a complete correction of the team's dysfunctional issues to a degree that will permit an improved performance next season. It stands to reason that if the ongoing correction of the team's dysfunctional issues is inadequate to allow a significant performance improvement for next season, the head Coach should bear the responsibility for this lack of success in correcting the team's problems and thought should be given to replacing him. Period. I have been a supporter of Crews all along, but this may change this coming season. We will see if Crew's actions are effective in solving the team's issues. Until this happens, I will have to withdraw my full support of Crews and replace it with a question mark.
  6. It will be what it will be. If it is correct that the team was dysfunctional due to the actions of a few team members, AND the players causing the problems have been eliminated, we can expect improvement next year.
  7. I think acceptable progress will be whatever the AD and Crews agree it will be for next season. I do not believe this agreement will be made public.
  8. hsmith 19, I do not know much about basketball but I do know about Harvard. Let's say that minorities have a hard time there and leave it at that.
  9. Things do change in a couple of years. He was not offered a couple of years ago when he finished HS and went JUCO. Again he was again not offered for the year 2014 to 2015 (NCAA eligibility was an issue at the time, this may have changed after a year at SLU). He has been attending SLU and playing as a walk on throughout this season. There may have been any number of reasons not to offer him a scholarship in prior years. Academics may have been a significant issue in prior years. However, he attended SLU for a year and apparently has managed not to flunk out, so he must be doing something right in this regard. He has played as a walk on this year. Who is to say that he could not be worth a scholarship now, or at least a second look? This kid could spend the summer doing all he can to avail himself of such an opportunity, who is to say he is not worth it now because he was passed over in the past?
  10. Sure we can all specify what we want for next year's team in great detail and make these ideal specs as elaborate as we wish. Getting what we wish for is, as you say, very difficult. It is entirely possible that we may not get the caliber of players we want, or players that do not need to redshirt, to fill the vacancies in our roster for next year, something that will become more difficult if more players transfer. Therefore we may have to consider offering scholarships to "project" players, players that will red shirt next year, or playing existing with walk ons to fill the ranks. There is no reason to think walk ons cannot have a Conklin summer. The opportunity is potentially there for them next year. Who knows what will happen.
  11. Amazing they play no walk ons. However, as you report Bobby Werhil was a walk on that got raised to scholarship level. Did he play as a walk on before the scholarship was given to him or not? Do you know if anyone else did play as a walk on at some point in time and was not given scholarships ?
  12. Not necessarily, Dayton does not have a full complement of scholarship players, they must be playing some walk ons.
  13. Aaron Hines played a season for the John Wood Community College (JUCO) before transferring to SLU where he is a Billiken walk on. His stats for the year he played at Junior College level are the following: Games played 24, points per game 5.8, %FG 33.9%, % 3 point 31.5%, %FT 67.7%, rebounds per game 2. I have watched him during the pre game practice periods at Chaifetz, he is small, fast, appears to move reasonably well and appears enthusiastic during the practice periods.
  14. 3 star fully agree with your description of "hero ball" and the problems it causes.
  15. VCU out, Davidson out (a real beating by Oregon), Dayton is the only A10 team still in.
  16. I do not think anybody knows exactly how many kids will transfer before next season. The truth as I see it is that some transfers will be rather easy to replace with new recruits (among these: GG who because of his injury did not play this year and contributed nothing to the results, and TL who did play but contributed very little). Other players like AM may be harder to replace in terms of what they contributed to the basketball results. However, AM's playing results may be neutralized by the termination of his extracurricular exploits which apparently were creating problems for other team players. Overall, and regardless of who it is that transfers out, I think that as long as we wind up with a cohesive team with players that trust one another we should be in good shape for next year. To achieve this cohesion we must get rid of all of those who were causing a dysfunctional team. If I was Crews, and I am not, I would not hesitate in showing the door to anyone who I think is or has been undermining team morale or cohesiveness. We may find replacements or we may use walk ons for play, whatever works, but we need to get rid of those promoting dysfunction within the team. Now is the time to do it.
  17. Bonwich, giving an underage kid pound 5 or 6 wee drams to anesthetize him might not be a good idea. Certainly not one the restaurant would be happy doing without going through carding, etc... I think the best policy is just to take them into the office, telling them straight and let them go to provide their own anesthetic agents if they need any. Somehow I do not think either TL or AM needed any anesthesia to deal with this issue.
  18. Jimbo, you are preaching nipping entitlement in the bud to an entitled society. Good for you! we need much more of that going on.
  19. There is an angle here you may not have considered. The kid graduates and decides he wants to go to grad school, not an impossible thing to decide to do, there is an issue with money to pay for grad school, so he may well decide to go to a D2 program get a scholarship and play another year. Some excellent schools play D2 basketball. Doing this will help financially and he would play a possibly dominant role in the new D2 team. Looking at it from that point of view, he might do very well in D2 assuming he does want to get a grad degree. This could be a good way to go for him.
  20. Let's look at it this way, TL's statistics are so poor that just about any new recruit may do better than he did last season. The same cannot be said about AM who had reasonable overall stats although he was inconsistent.
  21. McBroom had flashes of absolute brilliancy in play but was not consistent. I am sorry he did not fit better in our team and that he was not as consistent ans we hoped him to be. Hope you have a great life and hope you can play your last year of eligibility somewhere that will be a better fit to you than we were. All the best to you AM..
