  1. Ohio Valley or B12? In which conference will SLU end up!? If you will it, it is no dream.
  2. This. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 (or 366) days a year. The panacea for our ills is winning. Lots and lots of winning. Seems easy, let's do it.
  3. Wtf I just bought Suns season tix. Seriously though I was really looking forward to rooting for J Good and the Suns this season. Was all in on them with an NBA League Pass purchase in my near future. I don’t follow the NBA that closely. Let’s hope you’re wrong but assuming he’s bought out, does anyone have a good guess as to what team has the room and could use a Goodwin-type player the most? Impossible to predict?
  4. The girls and I had a blast at our first game. Win or lose, the games appear to be very entertaining. I was shocked at how crowded it was. Definitely closer to 800 than 400 if max capacity is 800. Only complaint would be the complete lack of signage directing spectators to the game, especially for first timers. It was only made worse by all of the families going to Disney on Ice. We (along with several other people that were utterly confused) finally found our way to the entrance (behind construction fencing) after seeing some students walking in.
  5. Sounds like an amazing day/trip. Are you allowed to pound those Heineys from your seat? This was a long time ago but when I saw Fulham take on Crystal Palace in the late 2000s at Craven Cottage it was not allowed. Was utterly shocked. Had to slam a bunch of beers at half while overlooking the Thames which led to a tardy return to my seat. Wasn’t received well by the locals.
  6. Shocker: https://x.com/mls_buzz/status/1704895375042077158?s=46&t=pBjvO3Wn5qUNqq5QnyRahA
  7. Looks like there is a women’s volleyball game this Saturday at 2pm versus VCU. Think I may take my 9 year-old daughter and some of her vball teammates to the game so they can watch (and learn from) some skilled players! I’ve never been to a game before but it looks like all tickets are GA. Any tips for a first timer or is it basically just buy some tickets, sit wherever, eat some snacks, and have a good time?
  8. Paraphrasing the words or Walter Sobchak: a bunch of f’ing amateurs (SLU that is)
  9. Correct. SLU needs to start collecting successful seasons (tourney appearances) regardless of what conference they play in. Which conference provides the best opportunity for SLU to become a serious BE candidate? You would think the A10 but with 1 (autobid) appearance the last decade I’m not so sure. But winning is definitely step 1 of Mission: Big East and if SLU were to eventually check off the “recent success” box on the their checklist, my guess is that most of the other items listed would be things that SLU maintains regardless of conference affiliation. Just speculation on my part.
  10. I agree that it does not make much sense to switch conferences at this point but I'm also not sure I subscribe to the notion that if SLU somehow found itself in the MVC (or another conference) that it would diminish their chances of landing in the BE. To me, if the BE wants us they want us. First, SLU has to string together some very successful seasons of college hoops (or be able to back up the Brinks truck as Brian suggests - don't see that happening) regardless of conference. But if they got to that point (fingers crossed) I would imagine conference affiliation (along with all of the conference comparison stats provided in previous posts) would hold less weight than what what SLU would able bring to the BE table: a top 25 market, top notch facilities that rival some P4 schools, another basketball-centric Jesuit institution, the final puzzle piece to a BE West division, and the resources to compete in the BE. SLU maintains all of those things regardless of their conference affiliation. I'm sure I am in the minority here and completely off base with this extremely simplistic take. First things first: let's win a lot of national collegiate athletic association basketball games. Starting with a 33-0 record this year.
  11. Like Box just said, playing teams in the A10 and playing in the A10 just doesn't make my socks roll up and down anymore. And let's be honest, it doesn't really matter what conference SLU plays in because they aren't movin' on up until they start stringing together successful seasons. A president that is fully committed to enhancing the status of its MBB program (it's money maker) and understanding the positive impact that it would have on the school as a whole and an AD that applies the same standards to all head coaches would be a fantastic start. So if the powers that be are satisfied with the current state of the program I say let's at least spice things up should VCU and UMASS leave the A10 . My selfish choice (WGSTL won't like it for reasons stated above) would be for SLU would to join West Coast Conference since geography doesn't seem to matter anymore. Private institutions, great travel destinations (San Diego and Malibu in January/February?), and it would be fun playing Gonzaga and St. Mary's 4 times each year. Of course if the Zags were to bolt that would be a huge blow. MVC obviously makes the most sense logistically. Forming new rivalries with Wichita State and Memphis would be a lot of fun in the AAC. All moot of course. We aren't leaving the A10 anytime soon.
  12. Not the biggest Gregggg fan but didn't he get us into the knockout round of the WC?
  13. Ha thankfully we still don’t have to purchase a ticket for our youngest but finding 5 tickets together is sometimes challenging (and more expensive). I saw around $50 the day of* (If we wanted to stare into a giant ball of gas for 2 hours - another reason I ask the question: why the 4:30 start time?) but assume after taxes and fees they were a lot more than $50/ticket. *another questionable aspect of this game to me: marketing. Perhaps I just drive down the wrong roads or follow/watch/read the wrong people but I had completely forgotten this game was being played until being reminded about 5 days ago.
  14. I may be a moran with horrible money management skills but my wife and I are not paying $300+ (for JUST tix) to take the dependents to see the USMNT take on my least favorite Soviet satellite country. Also, why the 4:30 start?
  15. This is exactly why SLU will never land in the BE. Everyone with a hand in running the show is completely incapable of knowing or doing what it takes for SLU to reach the next level.
  16. Neither does Loyola's campus which is considerably north of where the vast majority of murders take place in Chicago. I guess there is always the very real possibility you could get shot while driving to the game! In fact, you are a lot closer to the murder hot spots of STL while sitting in your seat at Chaifetz than you would be Chicago's while sitting in the BLERRRRs cute little gym. I guess what I'm trying to say, Roy, is get your butt up to Chicago this season for the game.
  17. Chicago in the winter is actually great. If the A10 would pull its head out of its a55 they would schedule every SLU Loyola game Fri-Sun. Hotels are cheap in the winter and there are still a decent amount of outdoor activities to be enjoyed (cocktails and curling at The Gwen for example). Also doesn't matter how cold it is outside as the bars are always nice and toasty on the inside. Took the oldest daughter to Ed Sheeran at Soldier Field towards the end of July. My wife and 3 other kids came as well. We walked, with thousands of other people, over 10 miles in 2.5 days. From Streeterville to River North, Gold Coast to Maggie Daley Park. Enjoyed great food, parks, museums (the kids loved the slime factory), and weather. Never felt unsafe for even a second. But stories like that don't generate clicks now do they?
  18. We’re the same age (both started driving in the late 90s). Getting back to Torch’s post, wouldn’t you agree the cops and the courts today are a lot more serious about drunk driving than when we started drinking (and driving)? Unfortunately me and my friends drove under the influence on several occasions during high school. Thankfully we never hurt anyone. But there were 2 types of cops that pulled us over in the late 90s: those that made you pour your beers out before letting you drive home and those that just told you to drive home. Not a chance that happens today. Thankfully the police don’t F around with that anymore and the judges don’t let Travis Noble(‘s clients)* get away with as many technicalities as they used to. $15k retainers and you’re still not walking away unscathed. With rideshare apps these days there are zero excuses to operate a motor vehicle under influence. *Saw Noble at Don Alfonso a few months back when I was enjoying an adult beverage with the Mrs. (Don’t like the place but it was convenient given our circumstances). Sitting at a 6 top was just Travis and his girlfriend. Wearing a 45-piece suit, entire can of Soul Glo in his hair, leaning back, unlit cigar in the mouth after just devouring a 140 ounce tomahawk (cooked rare). Probably billed that poor lady for their time spent. Hey SLU law alum Travis Noble - how about throwing some of that billable hours cash BVF’s way!!??
  19. Hopefully it’s a bright future with the USMNT and not Argentina’s. I’m sure it’s going to be a hard sell though. It’s not like Cremaschi has his idol/the greatest player of all time in his ear about playing for the defending WC champs or anything…
  20. If Hughes didn't transfer after this past season I don't see him transferring regardless of this season's outcome but you never know. He would be the only one I'd hate to see go. All of the other "kids" are expendable in today's hoops environment. Depending on who they'd bring in as HC, we may be happy to see multiple players transfer.
  21. This is pathetic!! Only 3 pages? Absolutely no reason we can’t get this thread up to 10 pages before we fill our final scholarship spot!!!
  22. If Dandridge to SLU is true, you couldn't have filled that last spot with a better player given the circumstances. Intriguing group coming in. Having said that, I've reached Will Hunting levels of attachment disorder with this basketball program. Don't want to get too close because I'm sick of crying myself to sleep every night in February and March. I also don't want to jinx it but I'm going in with a 15th place A10 finish mentality which I hope translates to a National Championship. It's not my fault....It's not my fault....It's not my fault.....
  23. Greatest movie of all time. You know this gritty kid from the streets of Harlem really creates excitement. $4 million dollars a year, that's true, but he earns every nickel of it. Look at how he shakes off 4 or 5 defenders...WITH EASE!
