  1. If the staff believes he's a good fit, I'm good with it. Welcome aboard Elliott. Based upon the early promise I have already seen from the three freshman this year, I have no reason to question Crews and his assistants. I think these three guys are going to have an outstanding four years at SLU.
  2. The site I just looked up had it flipped. Wisconsin favored by 6.5.
  3. Couple thought about last night: 1. I was at the game and read this thread while eating lunch today. The hand wringing by everyone was hilarious after the fact. 2. Wasn't RA listed as being 6'8'' during recruiting. When he stood next to DE, they were the same size. Despite this, I'm excited about his potential. 3. I alway thought the "Dwight" Evans call by Phillips was an exageration, or a myth. Last night at the game, I specifically paid attention. First three or for references Phillips clearly said "Dwayne." Then, out of no where, came a "Dwight." I am now a believer.
  4. They're both at the same time in New York. The guys can catch the subway to get back and forth from MSG and Barclays between games.
  5. The problem is not that the A-10 is the 14th best soccer conference. The problem is that a storied program like SLU wasn't able to win the 14th best soccer conference.
  6. SLU Kevin, Thank you for your first ever post. It is good to have you aboard, assuming you are not another poster disguising yourself just to stir up s#&t. Both of the alternatives you described are a step down from the A-10, even in its current form. With the loss of Creighton, the MVC has one good team. That team doesn't have a track record of long term success that would cause us to believe that they will stay relevant more than just a season or so more (see Missouri State, SIU-Carbondale, Drake, Bradley, etc. as examples of teams in the MVC that had short term unsustainable runs and coaches that have fled as soon as a program starts to have success). SLU and Dayton moving to the MVC will give it two good teams (I'm not counting Dayton). We already have that in the A-10, but you also have to consider Duquesne, UMass, St. Joes, George Mason, and Richmond. All of these teams are better than the second tier of the MVC. The new conference you suggested would have one good team, Us. The remainder of the teams would be lesser opponents that the A-10 or the MVC. Whether we like the geography or not, the A-10 is the best spot for SLU right now. Success in the A-10 gives us our best shot at eventually getting into the Big East. A move to the either of those other conferences, IMO, would hurt those chances. As a side note, and I know you were'nt talking about the past, but I believe that if SLU had gone into the MVC several years ago, we would not have attracked RM, we would have be looking at the possibility of three consecutive tournaments, and we would not be in consideration for the Big East.
  7. Congratulations on getting married. Double congratulations on choosing a girl that knows what her man likes.
  8. I've got twelve guys (alumni) meeting for two nights in Cincinnati and then commuting to the Dayton game.
  9. These two lines gave me a nice warm and fuzzy feeling: "Consider that in two seasons at SLU, Grandy Glaze and John Manning have gone 54-15. The class of 2014 lost more games in its freshman season than the current juniors have in their SLU careers." While I hope this group and the last two graduating classes are not the most successful SLU will ever have, I can't imagine liking a group of kids more and enjoying watching a group of kids more than the kids we've watched these past three seasons. I love that they all seem to be good kids and that they're student athletes in the truest meaning of the words. My favorite part of a home game, other than winning, is when our team is announced and all or nearly all of them are majoring in "Business and Administration."
  10. Only four guys were ranked ahead of DE in the article, and two of them were one and dones.
  11. Well said. I am sympathetic to anyone who is a passionate Billiken fan. However, this is a cautionary tale about how you cannot say anything you want simply because you are doing so while hiding behind the imagined protective wall of a computer screen. I legitimately feel bad for the guy, because I can understand getting caught up in feeling your invulnerable, because your typing your ridiculous thoughts rather than saying them to someone in person. That does not excuse the behavior. Should he have been arrested and charged with a crime? Don't know and don't care. But, for his own sake, I certainly hope in the future that he remembers that there was a time when people survived without feeling compelled to spew everyone one of their thoughts on some form of social media.
  12. I think Pistol's system works just fine, as long as we understand that some of the information is dated. I agree with not taking a kid off the list who has an offer or interest, just because we assume they are off the radar. If we start doing that, we interject opinion into what is just supposed to be information. I would rather have the entire list, even with old information, than start debating about who shouldn't be on there. Great work, Pistol. Please keep it up.
  13. I saw Domique Dobbs on the list from Hazelwood Central. Any chance that he's related to Donnie Dobbs, former Billiken?
  14. The can save cost on private jet fuel and take turns flying each other down to the games. Sounds like an outstanding young man and a family that SLU would be lucky to have associated with the program.
  15. I found it interesting that the new BE had only one team in the top 25, same as the A-10. Although, the A-10's team was ranked higher. In the other's receiving votes portion the new BE had 3 teams and the A-10 had 2. If the list represents the respect shown to programs in the pre-season, because it certainly doesn't reflect much more than that as proven above, then it would appear as if there is not much separation between the respect for the top of the new BE and the respect for the top of the A-10 at the outset of the season.
  16. Hopefully, DE spent a lot of time with Reynolds at his visit. As I recall, both of DE's parents are upper level educators. They valued education highly, and DE chose SLU, in part, because of the academic commitment the program makes for its athletes. It sounds to me that DE and Reynolds come from a similar perspective. If we get Reynolds, it sounds like we will be adding to our long list of players seeking their majors from the business school.
  17. Triumph is a pretty good restaurant within walking distance. Vito's, which is a block away from Triumph, is also good.
  18. I believe it is against Harris-Stowe. I know a guy on the Harris-Stowe team, and he told me he was trying to get me in as a guest of his team. Doubt it will work. Do you know when the scrimmage is schedule?
  19. If Xavier is full on scholarships, is it safe to remove them from the "2014 Offers List" for the players we're looking at.
  20. Not to be all preachy, and I know that the purpose of this site is to have fun and promote the Billikens, but I'm the father of a 7 year old little girl. If in 12 years, somebody did what you just did to a picture of her and her friends, or a picture of her on a sports team, I'd be trying to find your address right now. I'm well prepared for all of the buzzkill comments I will probably receive by writing this, but let's have some minimum standards on this site which include not ranking a group of 18 to 22 year old girls. As I recall, similar activity on postings has ended up as national Yahoo articles in the past. I don't think Billkens.com wants that sort of publicity.
  21. Not that I'm for SLU being cheap, but what do Gonzaga, Butler, Creighton, and Xavier spend compared to SLU? Does anyone know? My point is that I think SLU can succeed, in our out of the new BE, without spending as much as everyone else. If that's is not true, I would like to know. If these teams that we wish were were more like outspend us by a wide margin, then we all need to work on getting that issue fixed.
  22. I disagree that it is a good move for the Big East. The new Fox Sports 1 is on most basic cable/satelite plans. I'd be willing to bet that many of these games end up on CBS Sports Network which is often buried in an overpriced sports package that is not on basic plans. The Big East's original deal with Fox would have forced Fox to put the Big East games on the big Fox network channel or on Fox Sports One which would be better for the Big East's exposure than having games end up on CBS Sports Network. Seems to me like a move by Fox to clear up space to show other sports and dump some of the undesireable matchups onto CBS Sports. I'm guessing that when the Big East officials signed the contract, and it said that Fox could assign its rights, they didn't have this in mind.
  23. For anyone considering going to the Vandy game, you could turn the trip into one heck of a sports weekend. Saturday - Predators vs. Kings in Nashville Sunday - Titans vs. Texans in Nashville Monday afternoon - Music City Bowl Monday night - Billiken Game
  24. Love that he seems sure that expansion will occur. Don't love that he says between 2 to 5 years. Love that he mentioned SLU first among the possible teams, even after they were just talking about Dayton.
