Recruit (1/7)

  1. No, the 2 defenders on top were literally on their heels, pulled in on the free throw line unnecessarily leaving a man open for a 3 on the elbow. They just stopped covering their half of the key. If the offense overloads, adjust. You don't get beat in a zone by 3s at the elbow a few times in the last 4 minutes because it 'just happened.' It's a sign that someone's screwing up. I'd have gone man to man under 4 minutes, and I think Ford regrets staying in the zone. And I'm sorry, but who cares "if" Bishop would've hit the shot. He didn't. He's not Mitchell, who wouldn't have even taken the shot by the way because it was a stupid shot. Again, the game unraveled when the top 2 on the zone broke down. They were probably tired, so whatever, but you can't blame wide open 3s on anything else but that.
  2. Well there's never a reason to step out of bounds. It was a bad mistake. Bishop is the second coming of McBroom. Bishop and Roby completely stopped playing D at the top of the 2-3 in the last 3 minutes. That started the unraveling.
  3. With the built-in hair instead of the tuft of hair, the Billiken looks like Schlitzie the pinhead. Make the right choice.
  4. Milik has a daddy, you don't need to fill the role. He's a grown man who made a grown man decision. I won't miss the 1-on-3 transition drives to the basket, but I wish him well.
  5. I'm confused as to why some posters came to this thread to say that canceling your season tickets is preposterous and to roast those who want to. The thread exists for those who resent SLU right now to complain, vent frustration, and ultimately renew their season tickets because let's face it, of course we will. Why come here to say how you'd never-ever-pinky-promise cancel your tickets? Why come here to say that any reason for doing so is silly? Of course it's silly, but the SLU AD is silly. Travis Ford sucks. Don't take it all so seriously. I, for one, despise the play of MY and DR and am sick at the thought of watching them play for another year or two. My seat in the 200s doesn't afford a good enough view to get me through that. It would be easier if a massive brick wall was installed blocking me from witnessing MY's circus turnovers. Maybe Ford will turn it all around.................. Maybe I won't come back. Either way, all this huffing and puffing by salty old loyalists is annoying. Let us plebs complain.
  6. Wanting a "top flight" coach isn't the same as getting one. You can want all you want. Doesn't change the reality that SLU can't attract a coach that will have that immediate of an impact (Elite 8 in 3-4 years - your standard). How could anyone, by the way, take this bottomed-out program to the Elite 8 by 2019? Everyone wants to see SLU have that kind of success, but be realistic. Let me reiterate: the opportunity to hire a "top flight" coach does not equal the ability or the actuality of hiring one.
  7. How could anyone possibly complain about Gillmann after that non-performance by Yarbrough. Crawford is everything. Roby was clutch. Even Yacoubou didn't play like spaz.
  8. Really interesting stats. I prefer offensive efficiency stats like these. I agree with what you and others have said about Crawford needing more shots. And if some are arguing with you about why you keep saying more shots need to come from Crawford and less from Yacoubou - basically in a direct ratio - I'd point out that it's not like SLU is going to magically come up with 8 more possessions per game run them all through Crawford and in that way make up for the inefficiency from players like Yacoubou. The point is, if you want to use your average possessions per game wisely, less of them need to end with shots by an inefficient offensive player and more of them need to end with shots by an efficient one - whoever that may be. I see no point in defending Yacoubou for what he was supposed to be or what he could still be. We're playing with the talent that's showing up at the moment. One player at the 3 position is simply better offensively. Now, if one wanted to argue that Crawford's superior points per shot ratio is outweighed by his less effective defense, then that would be a decent case for using Yacoubou - and the only compelling one, in my opinion. But straight up, Yacoubou isn't doing it for us right now.
  9. I love this "go back and watch the film" stuff. Like we all just have 500 hours of tape lying around. I guess you do and you've reviewed it all? Crews' offense is not drastically different from Majerus'. That's because 90% of college teams run the same sets and motions. Arguing that the offensive styles are "similar" is mostly pointless. Crews' offense deviates from Majerus' in all the wrong ways. That's the point. If he's running the same sets - which he definitely isn't doing exactly, but they are very close - he / the players are not running them efficiently. And Crews has not proven that he can identify when the offense is being inefficient and make due adjustments. He's just not a nuts and bolts guy the way Majerus was. slufan13 has identified the key issue - our guys are wandering around the perimeter without purpose. It's maddening. They have the ability, they just aren't using it. When they do decide to get within 20 feet of the basket, it's often an unfortunate drive into the lane in traffic. They'll figure it out. But I'm not convinced that it will be Crews who figures it out for them.
  10. Having read this board only since 2010, I can say that the posters are the first to (brutally) criticize the team, but also the very first to go crazy over how good it is - in the best possible way. Malibu Barbie has clearly studiously ignored all praise of Miles Reynolds on last night's GDT. Selective reading at its most annoying.
  11. I know a sellout never seemed likely, but isn't it a classic marketing move to predict a sellout to create a buzz for tickets? I feel like saying there's going to be one is how you get it to happen... Works on the students, at least.

  13. Well, maybe you can, but I'm just speaking in general.
  14. Winning the regular season is a much bigger accomplishment than winning the tournament. 16 game performance vs. a 3 or 4 game performance? I don't say that because SLU bombed yesterday. I really think the tournament is pointless other than to make the conference more money. That's irrelevant to this thread though. Some people are saying let the VCU fans stick around, SLU is great, we shouldn't mind our competition coming around, etc. etc. As long as people talk about the Billikens, and prospects, matchups, general info, and predictions pertaining to the Billikens, then whatever. But I don't read this board to see what VCU fans think about VCU (and I'm not saying that's what you do, SwiftyClown, or anyone else necessarily). No one complaining about the 'guest' posters feels threatened by them or like they have something to prove still. The board isn't the basketball team. There's nothing we can prove. So that's not the point. We, or at least I, feel annoyed. That's it. It's annoying. But so are a ton of SLU fans on here, and you can't kick people off for being annoying.
  15. You earn a loss when you turn the ball over like that. There's not much to break down here. Not the refs fault that SLU continued to cough up possessions.
