Who came up with the idea that Otieno can stretch the floor?

He made 12 of 32 3s last year.  Half of those made shots came in TWO games.  The rest of the season he was 6-24.

Guess what Anya shot his last season at Brown?  8-30.  C'mon folks.

Paul's shot mechanics are bad.  His passing and ballhandling skills are not as good as Anya.

The offense that Anya bogged down Otieno is going to thrive in?  All indications to that are a no.  Otieno's offensive skills are rim running and O boards.  He is not stretching the floor, and he's not equipped to play the trigger as well as Anya is.

If we truly need 5 players on the floor who can stretch the floor to play in Schertz's offense, he certainly isn't recruiting to that.  Otieno, Anya, & Casey were/are all huge misses in that area.

Rewatch the Quinipiac game.  Did we guard Otieno on the perimeter?  No.  Now magically everyone else will now?

Gotta wonder why Schertz raced to get Paul then... seems odd if he is as average to Anya as you're making it sound.

Again this hack a Kalu narrative just isn't real. No team fouled him, just to foul him. He shot two fts a game.

Anya was forced to play a position he isn't built to play because of our depth lacking in the post. I watched some tape today on him. Didn't see many teams back off on Anya inside the 3 point arc. He was being guarded.

Otienno has very similar skills to Anya. He won't be guarded on the perimeter either. Are we benching him halfway through the season?

Anya's inability to stretch the floors kills schertz's system.  You can see how in order for his system to be at its best, you need 5 players who can* stretch and shoot.  You're right that anya and Paul are similar style players, but that small difference goes a long way here.

Also anyas production in conf play was meh, 5 points, 6.6 rebound.

  3. If Thames is healthy

    1) Otieno

    2) Robbie

    3) Jones

    4) Thames

    5) Green

    6) McCottry

    7) Dunlap

    8 brown

    9 Anya

    10 Sharma

As deep is we are at guard, if Dunlap was a top 7 player for a 2 seed I have to think he's that good or higher here.  If thames is limited, put Dunlap at the #4 spot

I fully agree that Crews was terrible here.  However, every AD in the country would have hired Crews after he took the team to the Round of 32 and won national coach of the year.  It's an unfortunate situation, but there was no way he wasn't going to get hired.  Let's say May hires someone else and that guy doesn't make the tournament the following year.  May would get lit up for not hiring the national COY.

I agree, however I do wonder one thing.  Since time has past, we've heard several players mention how Crews did nothing but sit back and the players sorta self-coach in a way.  Was this info kept quiet from May, or was it obvious and May didnt care and Hired Crews anyway?  Because if it was as obvious as it seemed, then its still a wtf type of hire.  I don't necessarily blame May if the players did a good job or hiding this info from May.

  5. Started going when I was a few months old, but the first game I remember going to I can only remember because I was like 3 or 4 and an older person like college age stole a ball that they tossed into the crowd from me.  I was pissed.  Good memories.

I would say this is blue kool-aid inducing..  I played golf with my Dayton alumni friend today and we really really need to beat them this year!

This is the type of year we need to sweep them, I don’t see them finishing top 4, probably even top 5.

This roster looks pretty damn good when compared to all other A10 rosters.  If Schertz can gets these guys to implement his offense, we might be pretty good.

The issue to me is development.  Diakite and Kerr are freshmen.  Past SLU history for foreign bigs is not good.  Diarra.  Cisse.  Traore.  Magassa.  Brockhoff.  Pikaar.  van Bussel.  Loe and Ellis were rare exceptions and that was under Majerus.  The last foreigner that amounted to much was Vouyoukous.

    I don’t hold that against Schertz(minus max)

at the very least this team will be better than this years team. If the team this year had either just jones or Paul, they would have been close to dancing.

    I love this addition.

Avila is our only veteran player over 6'8". Now we have 2, 6'10" freshmen, hopefully at least one of them will be able to be productive when they get on the floor. That was a problem  last year. They are both skinny, stretch  the floor, had 10 pts and 5 RB, last season. These are guys growing into their bodies.

Hope they get on campus soon, find the food, the weight room and learn the system.

Good job by the coaching staff!

Paul plays like 6’10 fwiw.  I feel pretty good about him backing up Robbie next year. At the very least, he plays bigger than Anya and Anya was close* to being a solid backup.

Was Coaching a tournament this past weekend.  Anthony Bonner was there.  He was in a conversation with someone....they were pitching him the idea about the possibility of his son coming to Principia.

    Love that.

if he doesn’t wanna play for the best team in the state first, that is.

Or perhaps more likely, the Doctors did determine a medical cause and the Thames family wants the medical diagnosis and treatment kept private.  We fans may never know the true story of Kellen's health issue.

Absolutely not true, one person on this board knows the exact reason.

Jones averaged a little less than a block a game, so it might be like saying Lou Brock and Ted Simmons averaged more stolen bases than all other teams in the league.

No, I accidentally looked at the prior year.
