  1. A few things to note re: RO 1. Qualification academically was an issue. 2. Despite his frame, he was a poor ball handler and didn't "light it up" when he practiced with the team. 3. He was not a top priority and we were never waiting for him to accept us. 4. He will likely go to TT if he clears. 5. SLU's love affair with RO was created on this board and was fictional. We have a few transfers on the radar and don't be surprised if the last scholly gets used. We will likely hear something in late June/July. 2014 will be a special recruiting class. Winning makes all the difference and we can compete with the big boys in the Midwest with our recent accomplishments and facilities. The staff is recruiting full throttle and are making great strides. This fall will be very exciting I am calling it now. This is a special time for SLU athletics.
  2. You can see how this puts the RO situation in perspective.
  3. It's hard to say yes to something when there is nothing to say yes to. I will let you read between the lines. I know this should go in the D is T thread; however, one side of the story can be told. I'm sure that one would never publicly reveal on Twitter that their GPA was on life support at best and didn't really feel like putting in effort in their life in an all around fashion. People will always put their best foot forward even if it is prosthetic.
  4. It's more of a company that rents cars than sells beverages that is the lead presser of Fox.
  5. John has a nice family. His brother lives here in STL. Neat story!
  6. Concerning Enfield: It's actually the other way around. The Billikens have been on Enfield's radar all season. Enfield has been inquiring about the SLU HC job for four months. Obviously, his interest started before he became a national headliner.
  7. The coach has two sons that will walk-on to free up schollies: ET & AL. Both 7 footers by RM's standards.
  8. Et is badass. He has 4 athletic 7'0s lined up for spring. He really wanted the job, too.
  9. The job is Crews'. They are waiting for FrB to return from Asia to make the announcement. They are recruiting like crazy. They will sign 3 most likely in the spring signing period. There will be no Howland, etc. It is Crews.
  10. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="Billiken Rich" data-cid="341393" data-time="1360355783"><p> Do you see him recruiting well? I have no idea but it scares the crap out of me to take a chance on him for the longer term....... </p></blockquote> He was a very good recruiter locally but that was some time ago. This JC I am not able to comment on. His new-found position is a happen of circumstance rather than design so there is no way to predict. I would imagine his living room conversations with parents and kids would be smoother than his predecessor.
  11. I, too, can confirm that the guys enjoy playing for Crews. He has mellowed out since I knew him at Evansville. I think it is a function of the grandkids and having some time off. He is a great guy - he also relates to the kids better than RM did. The kids respected RM because of his résumé and knowledge but he wasn't able to relate as well. Crews brings a different element and skill set and makes gelling a little easier which helps with team chemistry.
  12. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="MB73" data-cid="341386" data-time="1360354444"><p> We <em class='bbc'>should </em>be a very, very attractive team for the C7+, but you never can predict what seven Catholic University Presidents will decide behind closed doors. It is foolish to follow the rumors.<br /> <br /> Sure DePaul and Marquette are in but they still might prefer more eastern based teams than SLU. Or something. It is a crapshoot.<br /> <br /> I hope there are 12 teams and no surprises: SLU + X + B + Dayton + Creighton (or VCU) would be terrific. But do not bet on it. </p></blockquote> The CU presidents only dictate the exit. Collectively they have a consultant doing all the negotiating and the consultant will guide the final decision on the network and thus will be the deciding factor on who is in.
  13. <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="bonwich" data-cid="341106" data-time="1360255145"><p> It's not "reporting." Tom had nothing to do with that photo. It's "overworked copy editor pulling a photo in the middle of the night to illustrate an online story because AP didn't move any photos for the SLU-Fordham game."<br /> <br /> (For the record, if these kind of things didn't happen, we wouldn't have one of the most beloved former Billikens ever to talk about on this board. )</p></blockquote> Agreed that Matt Dickey is the spawn of Post incompetence which has its benefits every now and again.
  14. Gordon is a piece. He really should have made the last part of the article the lead portion of the story and the first part the last as a side note. No one cares about Rose Hill Gym in STL. Trashing Fordham is a waste of everyone's time. Using Fordham to trash the A10 is petty and unproductive. I would take this article to slightly, subtely bash the win over Forham for SLU. He must be hard up for material. I find that SLU will have have to achieve at a 20% greater rate than the other local favorites in order to receive decent recognition. I feel like we get more love from ESPN than The Post.
  15. Love the report, Wiz! Awesome as always. It is interesting to see these numbers as the season progresses. I wish there was a formula or way to factor trends and teams that are hot or cold; ie, Kansas, Creighton, UofL, Syracuse// Bills, Villanova before last week, Miami, etc. teams that are really rocking can go flat just like that and then drag. It's nice when the home team is on fire.
  16. SLU picture made ESPN's Gameday grams feature. Nice work!
  17. We are not going to hear if we are in or out today.
  18. Here are a few things I have been told that may lead some credence to BillikenFriar. I know the powers at SLU have been working diligently to put us in a position to become part of the new conference. The AD and Biondi have been working very hard to put us in the most attractive position. I know today is an important day to the powers that control our end and perhaps Wed we will get good news. They feel we have a lot to offer in terms of TV market, arena, competitive program and demographics that fit the mold. The question was whether it goes 10 or 12. I can assure this board that our guys have been doing everything possible to sell our program in the most positive light. I will know more later today.
  19. Clock: No doubt KC was KM's eventual replacement. If RM spots talent then it is surely there. RM has a record of pulling out diamonds in the rough or spotting undervalued players and developing them. Sometimes these players have baggage, sometimes they don't. Baggage can come in many different varieties and this type of baggage was more unique than we typically see. That said, KC was done when RM was not returning. Here is my take on Crews' situation: he is like a step-dad- he will always be compared to RM (dad) and will forever fall short. He will never get full credit even if he knocked it out of the park. He really is in a tough situation. Now, he could have told May no thanks, then we really would have been up a creek. Would we really rather have someone else sitting on the bench: no, emphatically no. Should we be more appreciative of Crews- emphatically yes. He was our best option considering the timeline and he has bailed us out. Will Crews ever be RM - No and the sooner we accept that the easier it will be to swallow this season good or bad. In reality, he is doing a pretty good job. Players- as we know they aren't dumb. We are in transition. The upperclassmen aren't going anywhere for obvious reasons. The younger guys I believe will stay because they are settled and the team is very cohesive. Success makes it easier to stay as well. Is this a guarantee- no just my thoughts. The team really has good chemistry and that disruption is not worth one player- see above. Biondi: obviously his priorities are different than the typical fan. Basketball success is a tool for a greater means. The cheaper that tool operates at an efficiency factor benefiting the greater means then the better.
