+1 Last year's team was pretty average until the break when we got Cody and finally had a legitimate third scoring option. Although we have a better supporting cast this year around KM and WR if they come back we still need Cody to be a double digit scorer if we want to be top 2 of the A10/ncca team

Forgot which ESPN analyst it was but one of them said that a good boy's high school team could beat a WNBA team. Take it for what it's worth

Kwamain as a frosh vs JJ/MM
Billiken4life5 replied to Billiken4life5's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
+1 for the leadership skills. KM is obviously a very good player but I think the intangibles he brings to the table is something this team is desperately missing right now. A steady hand in crunch time and clutch shots might have given this team a few more wins already. -
high scoring, good offensive rebounding, veteran team...sounds like our worst nightmare..

Kwamain as a frosh vs JJ/MM

Awfully small lineup with all three of the pgs in but imagine trying to guard all that quickness when were on offense... -
I'm a soph so wasn't around for Kwamain's frosh year. I was wondering how people thought JJ/MM compare to Kwamain as a frosh. RM's comparison of MM to Kwamain with a jumpshot is what brought this to mind for me.

OT: Braggin Rights game
Billiken4life5 replied to STL Hoops Insider's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Intentional fouls whenever a player is shoved in the back has really been a point of emphasis for refs the last two years so even tho it wasn't particularly dangerous not surprised at all to see it called. Regardless, Tinsdale's decision was what cost Illinois the game not the call. He lets him go it's a three point game with thirty seconds left. Even if it hadn't been an intentional it would have been a four point game and Mizzou hit their last few free throws. But whenever you sub as little as Illinois did and play a game at the pace Mizzou does your players are going to be exhausted at the end of the game and tired players make stupid decisions. -
Board, CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY. All we wanted was this year to finally be the year we break into the ranks of the elite but according to MO state fans we are already there. I love my bills but calling a win over us beating an elite team just screams that your team doesn't beat many good teams.

GDT: Jacksonville at Saint Louis

Lot of posts before the game about how this could be a turning pt of the season...you lose and we're 3-5 and even if either kwamain or willie come back there wasn't a whole lot of incentive to play them; win and ur at 4-4 which is respectable without your top two leading scorers and your third leading scorer nearly nonexistent. When you throw in an 18 pt comeback after the opposing team jeers at your best player getting hurt and this is a huge win for our guys. These are the types of games that give a team confidence and helps them come together. We've got to harness the momentum from this win and more importantly scoring nearly 50 points in a half. This team isn't going anywhere if we don't get some guys coming back but big win for the program and the frosh to learn how to win. You have to give it up to Kyle Cassity. The guy took more abuse than any player last year and he has stepped up. Now he's doing the little things and scoring. He knows how to win and he took an absolute beating tonight and still sparked the comeback and hit clutch free throws. -

+1847373 KC goes down and Jville's bench goes nuts and our guys made a stand. This team may not be that great but gotta love the heart. -

Anyone have online video for the game? -
A lot of people hating on Cody today. I agree he hasn't looked like the same player this year but definitely not ready to call him a bust, like some have. The guy is our pre season all conference player and he hit huge shots last year against richmond, dayton, and xavier. I think I'll stick with him. I agree that Christian doesn't really have a role on this team right now. If he can't shoot the 3 then he will never average more than five a game and we can't have that many non-scorers on the team at the same time.

Anybody kidnap Singler or Smith yet?

Both up with under 7 to go -
The A-10 takes over ESPN tonight with Georgetown traveling to Temple on ESPN and Butler goes to Xavier on ESPN 2. Be a nice night for the A-10 to bounce back

I don't know at the meet and greet before the season Rick said he hadn't even talked to Kwamain. He handed the question about KM over too Paul. Obviously he could be bs'ing but maybe he really is just trying to stay out of it.
-
Anyway I look at this it doesn't end well...in the half court their bigs are so much better than us that I can't see us stopping them but I think the bigger problem will be us scoring...our offense is anemic and were asking two frosh point guards to handle the ball against the best pressure D in the country. duke will force turnovers and get lots of points in transition. We're going to have to be unbelievably hot from 3 to stay within 20 imo.

The more time time to prepare means more time in the film room learning the other opponent's tendencies. It's not that were going to come out with anything new it's that we'll have a better idea what were up against and exactly what to expect. The filmroom is where Rick will figure out exactly how he wants our defense to rotate when we double down and who he wants to sag off their man etc. I expect us to get drilled too but I expect us to be better prepared bc of the time off. Assuming that our guys have been practicing a lot. Rick seems huge into academics and with finals week I don't know how hard he's been on them.
-
As a fan I definitely agree that I hate to see us lose bc Coach is being a hardass but the loss did help prove Rick's point. You know after the game Rick told Cody we lost a winnable game bc you weren't playing bc you don't play defense. Hopefully Cody realizes him not playing D is hurting the whole team and he gets his act together. As opposed to him just blaming rick for the loss.

I don't know if I would say Remeken was "great" off the bench last year. It seems like all anyone remembers of Cory from last season is the final game of the CBI where he had a very good game. If he was that good off the bench last year I don't think Rick would have wanted to redshirt him this year. I think Cory can be a very good player and his game will improve much this year. However, I don't ever see him being a starter if we want to be a tourney team.

Anyone else think its odd we had mre people for Austin P than Georgia? Georgia was a better team and even for the casual fan you'd think Georgia being from the SEC would make them more likely to come. Only explanation I could come up with was that some fans were disappointed after Austin Peay.

Understandable and respectable.
