  1. The video of Kevin's game-winner in Aussie-land is great though.
  2. Our SoSs and RPIs will drop just because we have to play Fordham
  3. I thought as Jesuits we could do whatever we want.....so long as we are sorry for it afterward.
  4. No doubt any at large mid-major teams will be forced to play each other in the first round. They are so scared of another George Mason. If any team other than the top 3 A-10 teams wins the conference tournament they will probably burst the bubble of the # 3 or 4 team.
  5. Do you mean 'high achieving nerd' like Bill Gates or 'high functioning nerd' like Tina Fey? If not for people dropping out of the pre-med program I think I would have been all alone at Cook. I thinks its a right-of-passage for marketing majors. As for having the "pulse" of the students, I'm a fairly recent grad so I doubt it turned into the Nerd U since I left.
  6. Since some of the team in the A10 have some bigs and others are heavily guard-centric I think our lineup will be case-by-case. I can see BC, CE, and WR on the floor all at once against teams with size. But I imagine the three would rotate through 2 spots against team with 4 and 5 guard sets.
  7. Conklin did NOT have a good game in my opinion. But keep two things in mind: 1) "Starting is for high school." - RM 2) A few of the coaches have said recently that BC is playing on a bad wheel.
  8. Don't worry there are only 8 of them, but I guess the policy hasn't changed.
  9. Great comment on TT's post-mortem "Thanks for being so nice to our students. Nice building you got there. That said, if your students travel to Springfield next year, I think we’ll be smart enough to put them somewhere near the rafters. 10-0. — AB " That about says it all.
  10. Its not so much that I want to excuse them. I just don't buy the "they didn't come because they are a bunch of geeks" concept.
  11. I think the key for current student and young alumni is for the program to position the games as an "in" social event. A lot of people on the board want to complain about the 70+ year old fan not yelling and screaming enough. But to me it is the lack of 20 and 30-something fans that is the real issue. There is a real gap in that part of the fan base and they are the fans who will really yell and get involved. If you look at the baseball Cardinals, one of the reasons (and no it is not the only reason) that they are one of the top drawing MLB franchises is that a Cardinal game is a social event. It is not just die hard fans and families with kids at the games. You see girls night out groups, business schmoozing, and in general anyone who just wants to go out. You don't have to be a big baseball fan to want to go because it is "the thing" to do. You don't see that in some other cities for baseball and you certainly don't see that for SLU Bball. The University would never do it as it would be seen as promoting underage drinking, but since the games end so early (well early for a young 20-something) it would be easy to suggest to "make the Bills game, your pre-game". Maybe that's a better promotion for the Annex, Vito's etc.
  12. As your original point was that SLU students (and I presume you also mean alumni) are "nerdy" and don't like sports, it is valid to point out that attendance (which one must presume is largely alumni in the case of both basketball and soccer) is well above DI averages. If you would rather be a fan of a program full of student who eat-sleep-breath-and live sports 24/7 and have no other interest or academic validity - I suggest you'd be happier as a Michigan fan.
  13. Well the numbers in the press release were not wrong and SLU did lead the nation three times this decade so I have no need to withdraw anything. Ok they've fallen down to only being in the top 10-15. What a tragedy.
  14. 1) It is volleyball. Do you really think other volleyball programs around the country pack the house for those matches? I love volleyball but that just isn't the case. In 2008, the average attendance for a Big 10 volleyball match was barely over 2,000. And the Big Ten has higher attendance than any other conference. If you think we are somehow failing because our only just recently successful program is not drawing 5,000 a game you are just wrong. http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/w_vol...009/VBAtt08.pdf 2) Soccer - the same deal. No one attends soccer anywhere. For at least three years this decade SLU has LED THE NATION in average attendance. http://www.slubillikens.com/sports/m-socce.../012704aaa.html 3) 2009 average men's DI Basketball attendance = 5,378. SLU's average attendance 7,627. That ranks SLU 71st. Would we like to be higher, sure but WE"RE NOT A TOP PROGRAM YET. Let me repeat that. WE ARE NOT A TOP PROGRAM. I want us to be one as bad as anyone but I don't walk around with blinders on pretending we are right there with DUKE, NC, Kansas, Kentucky, hell even Xavier. We aren't there yet. http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/m_bas...09mbbattend.pdf So factually, yeah you were wrong.
  15. I disagree with characterizing KC's defense as below D1 quality. But offensively yes, I don't care what RM says anymore, I don't believe KC will ever be a consistent scoring threat for this team.
  16. That's utter and complete bull****. Sorry, but it is.
  17. I saw security lead a blue crew member or two away at one point, though I think they just got a stern talking to. When you consider that the night's promotion was that "anyone with a college ID" can get in for $5 and sit in the student section.....what did they think would happen? At least the student section was full.
  18. Over Under on SLU TOs? I'm saying 15
  19. I know I say that about 5 times a game.
  20. "It's always darkest...right before it turns completely black." Spoken like a true Billikens fan.
  21. On the postgame show however, RM did say that it was stupid of Conklin to get that T. So maybe he felt it was justified. From where I sit that play was blocked by the backboard so I have no idea.
  22. I agree the refs had some kind of issue with BC for most of the game. Before the game I was looking at Belmont's stats, none of their players has averaged more the 3 fouls a game so far this year. Yet tonight it seems like almost every one of them finished the game with 4.
  23. It was definitely his eye. Was really hurting him, he could barely stand up straight to walk. The refs lost control of the game in my opinion, though I'm sure they'll blame it all on Brian Incognito....I mean Conklin.
  24. That is sarcasm right? Just checking.
  25. I would think PM would have to be on the top of the list if RM left, unless it was a bad ending and a p@$$ed off Biondi wanted to clean house. I've heard RM go out of his way to point out that PM is an associate head coach and not an assistant coach, and how there is a real difference. Someone asked earlier about the MVC national TV deal. I saw a lot of Valley games on Fox Sports MW last year. I guess that is what people mean.
