It would also be revisionist history for many to suggest they would have been on-board with hiring Porter back then. Many on this board were less than impressed by the handful of games he coached when Rick was out. Most belief in Porter back then came from having an “in Majerus we trust” attitude. Rick always made a point to specify that Porter was not an assistant coach but his associate head coach.

Your impression because that is what happened. Unless those who repeat it, I believe Cusamano is one, Porter himself may be another are lying.

I haven’t kept track of how successful their analysis has been in the past.....but the analytics boys at 538 said this Loyola team rated better than the their Final Four team about a month ago.

I’m sure Marquette’s AD is getting pestered by boosters about Porter every 20 seconds or so.

To be fair Dayton was robbed of a great chance at a serious run last year.

For those who want us to go to the MVC so we would “dominate”....this Loyola team would have taken us apart post-COVID and maybe even pre-COVID.

Watching Loyola makes me miss not just coach Majerus but Majerus-ball here. Ford has had some solid defenses sure. But rarely have the kind of games anymore where we are holding good teams without a FG for 5-8 minutes at a time.

It sounds like their biggest desire is to go together somewhere. One more year at SLU is definitely the most assured way to do that.

I’m torn about that now. Going in to the season and with our talent we should be a 20 NET kinda team. But the team that couldn’t beat a Hyland-less VCU and that got walked by St. Bonnie......that isn’t a 20 NET team.

Part of running is playing really good D. Hard to run when your opponent is hitting shots. It is a lot harder to do that against average and above A10 teams than the Arkansas Pine Bluffs of the world.

It is going to be brutal for recruiting locally when you try to point out JGood picking SLU, and your competition points out his only taste of the dance in 4 years was one game where we got walked by FSU.

How pissed off are you if you are in the A10 league offices today? One of the marquee games of the entire conference calendar and one of Richmond’s only chances to get back in the to at-large conversations down the drain.

Might be that we have some players that, while they are no longer positive for COVID, are physically not in a place where the medical staff thinks they should be playing. Or it could be Ford just saying F it let’s just play the bare minimum and not take any more losses with recovering players playing at half their potential.
