O.T. Would St. Louis support a WNBA team?
ARon replied to BLIKNS's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Not right now. If Chris May pulls a rabbit out of his hat, makes a home run hire, and turns SLU into the Duke of WCBB...then maybe. -
Perhaps, but I'd imagine Fred gets the nod for defense. Pickett may fit in as a 6th man and replacement for Nesbitt, assuming he doesn't return.

Over who?

Imagine being a baseball HOFer and still not the best player on your childhood block. Kinda like Reggie Miller, all those achievements and still not the best player in his house growing up

They have backup buses, but won’t use them.
-
As has been discussed ad-naseum already that may be how things end up.

In a scenario where the kid wants to play a feature role and is told by Ford that probably isn’t going to happen before ‘23-‘24. And if anything he may play less minutes next year. Yeah I could see that being the impetus try to move on.
-
Knowing he could be as low as 7th in the rotation next year could easily have had a lot to do with it yes.
-
This is kind of a harsh take on Willie but Mitchell was THE guy for that squad. And Ian was probably a better player overall. I’d actually put Mitchell and Lisch at the top of this list as exciting to watch even if not the top in overall play. Both could take over games in ways I’d argue JGood didn’t. I’d also put Conklin on there somewhere.

Putting this here for those who like trying to decipher meaning in a 20 yr old’s tweets.

It would be interesting to see some data on how many 4-stars 1) play 4 years of college ball period 2) play all 4 at the same institution. I'm guessing it is a fairly low % in both cases.
-
Sounds downright healthy.

Is there a long history of underclassmen borderline starters on 5th place A10 teams getting good deals to play overseas? (no)
-
Keep in mind we're talking about a 20 year old kid who's high school doesn't even exist anymore. Stability is not an expectation he likely has. I wouldn't dig too deep in to parsing his language.

Hopefully we have or will soon reach the point where a NLI is more lucrative than playing in a third-tier league in Latvia. But who knows.
-
As @wgstlsaid, will most likely get graded and return. He's not a guaranteed starter on our team next year to say nothing of being ready for the league. I'm honestly not sure Europe is even a realistic option for him yet. This will likely be the scenario every year he is here though.

Rashad Williams enters the Transfer Portal
ARon replied to STLsportsfan's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
I felt bad for Williams. He had a tough year with injuries, delays, and losses away from basketball. We never really got to see the player he is. Can certainly understand his desire for a new start and a place where there will be minutes for him. Best of luck to him. -
Hopefully fans learned their lesson after discounting the impact Perkins would have. It does make you wonder about the transfer portal as it would seem there are scenarios (Parker is the real deal and can play D, Perkins comes back) where Nesbitt and Hargrove are looking at less minutes next season.

Yes, Ford won't even get 10 years. If we don't have at least 1 more tournament game by the end of year 8, there will be no year 9 or 10.

Markhi Strickland in the transfer portal
ARon replied to DeSmetBilliken's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
That’s one of two I expected. Best of luck to him. -
I don’t know that it is meant to send Ford a message. But it still sends the message that regardless of how legitimate the reasons/excuses might be (COVID, Injuries) there will still be consequences for a lack of results.

Yes. Auburn, Belmont, UAB, Drake, and Boise State may not be household brands in college BB but it was a strong OCC schedule. Schedule like that each year and we’ll be an easy at large team….if we actually win the games. Next years schedule already looks pretty good too.

10 years is a long run to have 0 tournaments appearances even for a program with no history of success. Coach Stone’s result have looked great relative to her predecessors but I can understand the athletic department reaching the point where they need to see more to be satisfied. Similar to Ben Fredrickson’s comment about Ford the other day - Stone raised the floor but couldn’t raise the ceiling.
