  1. Good to see Cassity bringing it tonight. How is everyone following the game?
  2. Steve, George Washington is up on Charlotte at the half 35-32.
  3. Yeah, it worked fine for me during those games and I was constantly refreshing billikens.com and game tracker.
  4. Thanks for the link shoe, that is a really interesting site.
  5. I am really smart and greatly appreciate the compliment, but have a hard time answering the "who chose you" question. I am an unemployed 25 year old virgin living in my parent's basement, so unfortunately there are not many instances in my life where I have been chosen for anything.
  6. That may be a decent idea, I could have saved you the time of researching 10 years of Billiken results.
  7. Your original analysis just seems worthless. You presented the number of times the margin of defeat was larger than 20 points in road games for teams that largely did not make any postseason tournament and were overall very average teams to prove to us that it isn't unusual for average teams to get spanked on the road every once in awhile. Why would you feel the need to post any such analysis? Did you think people needed proof of that claim? We are a young and very average team that got beaten up on the road by a very good and likely tournament level team, it happens. I think most people understand that and do not need a chart of the number of times recent Billiken teams have been blown out to show them that.
  8. The A-10 coaches and selected media picked the Billikens to finish 12th ahead of George Washington and Fordham.
  9. This seems like a weird analysis to post. We only played two non-conference games on the road, Georgia and Bowling Green, and we were not in either of those games. The fact that we kept those games within 15 points is not a real big confidence builder for me. We also played two neutral court games (Iowa State and Notre Dame) and those games were not close either. Three of those games are against BCS opponents granted, but none of those BCS teams are above .500 in conference (Bowling Green is not above .500 in the Mid-American) , so those games were not against powerhouses and none of those team will be in the NCAA Tournament. In conference we have played 4 games on the road and we were within a point of winning 3 out of 4. The one that did not go to OT we lost by 26. Taking Charlotte into OT is a very quality performance. The other two teams (George Washington and Duquesne) are sitting at 2-5 in conference. Those are not good teams and should come as no surprise that we competed with them. So saying that we are not getting blown out on the road (a total of 6 games) beyond the Richmond game does not seem to be a real big accomplishment. I will give the team props for taking a very tough Charlotte team to OT. Beyond that, we have not played great competition and a number of those games while not blowouts, were not games that the outcome was ever in doubt. There is no reason to take pride in being mediocre.
  10. 23 turnovers, 0-10 from the three point line, and 0-3 from the line. Probably not going to win many games turning the ball over that many times and not getting any points from deep or at the line.
  11. Now we got a little flow to the game, this is much more tolerable.
  12. 8 turnovers and 2 field goals in 8+ minutes and we have the lead, I guess I will take it.
  13. Not the best start to this one with 4 turnovers at the first media timeout, but GW is only 1 for 8 from the field.
  14. I agree completely. It is great to hear that Majerus is speaking glowingly of the program on the Chicago airways, but that certainly has to piss off the flagship station.
  15. Yeah, the Liacouras Center seats just over 10,000.
  16. It is really nice to see the A-10 right up there with the BCS conferences. It would be great if Xavier could get a win at Florida when they go down there in a couple of weeks. The most recent bracketology has the A-10 with 5 teams in the tournament (Temple - 4 seed, Xavier - 8 seed, Dayton - 10 seed, Rhode Island - 11 seed, Richmond - 12 seed). http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/bracketology
  17. I don't think Dan Caesar cares if Majerus gives him the time of day. His job is to report on things related to the St. Louis sports media. He would have no reason to go to a Billiken game as a member of the media. His article was to report on the situation concerning Coach's radio program and that may be the only thing he writes about SLU in awhile unless he is reporting the ratings for one of our televised games.
  18. Kevin Slaten reported that Majerus spoke with DePaul. Slaten has never struck me as someone with quality sources or with legitimate inside information so I will just pass this along for what it is worth.
  19. I was not speaking specifically to the hour radio program (you are right that the casual fan is not going to tune into a coach's program), but more like once a week tell all the local media that Coach Majerus and his players will be available for an hour after practice so come on down (which from the media complaints I have heard, the lack of any access is what frustrates them). Then all the local media outlets have their clips and can run reports on the team. When I worked for the team the players were never too busy to speak to the media after practices for a couple of minutes. Student athletes have a lot on their schedule, but it is not like they are running from practice to the library. I am not saying do it every day, but once a week or every two weeks would seem to go a long way. I reread my posts and I would have thought it was my mom nitpicking me, so I will stop complaining. I just wish we could have discussions where things did not always become so black and white. You can have issues with the program that you do not like and can complain about and still be extremely pleased with the overall direction of the program and with Coach Majerus. This message board turns every discussion into you either hate Majerus and the team or love Majerus and the team and if you have something you don't like about the program you are a troll or Brad Soderberg's pool boy before he was fired.
  20. You are right, in the big picture this is extremely minor, but isn't that what fan message boards are for? We have a good young team that is getting better every day and the future is extremely bright, but the casual St. Louis sports fan does not really know that and certainly is not aware of it enough to start going to games if they don't already do so. This program has so little media exposure and it is frustrating to me as Billiken fan. If we win big in the coming seasons these discussions will be laughable because the attention will be there in spades. I just wish we would see Majerus, Willie, and Mitchell all over the local stations building that excitement. Winning will cure all....
  21. If you are contractually obligated to do a radio program then that should be one of the hours in your work week. I think he would come across as likeable if he were on the radio or television, look at the brash Rex Ryan and how the media adores him. Obviously he does not like to deal with the media, but an hour or two a week is not a lot and it would go a long way. I agree that I will take winning over a highly likeable and media friendly coach, but I struggle to see why it is so difficult to at least make some effort. That is all I am saying, make some effort. Winning will cure all, but we can still ***** and moan when we see things being done that we do not like until we get there.
  22. I agree that Majerus is a nationally respected basketball coach, but having your name mentioned during a basketball game does not constitute being a great ambassador of the University. Mentions here and there are nice don't get me wrong, but it is not like he is on the national circuit continually discussing the merits of Saint Louis University and the basketball program like one poster implied. I struggle to see how he has really increased the University's national exposure.
  23. You do realize that the readers of the Post Dispatch and listeners of the local sports radio programs are the people that either come to the games or could be coming to the games?
  24. The answer should be absolutely. Rick Majerus coaches basketball, he is not in a lab finding a cure for AIDS. He can sacrifice an hour or two a week to sit down with the local media.
