  1. Won't let me in, boy, I'm worried! If RM winds up staying here 4 or more yrs, gets us some big time players, we go to the NCAA's, then I guess the end will justify the means. BUT if he blows up/leaves early, doesn't get us there, etc, then I will always view him as a self-centered, egotistical p---k who treated some of our current players with absolutely no respect. Time will tell.
  2. Hope they win but must pick against them, 66-51. Trend is your friend. No way to expect a turnaround until they actually do something. Team may be in disarray, why expect anything good? Sorry.
  3. Hey, we do not have much talent, especially our front line w/o "V" we are nothing. TL is overated, has not improved, cannot blame all that on RM, KL is our only real player but cannot carry us every game and even with his strong will he is frustrated. In the scope of NCAA talent/performance, can you give him more than a "B"? (on a scale of A+ down to F-minus) The fascination with LM continues to amaze me, he is a "C minus" on the scale of NCAA talent/ability/performance, a guy who is not big enough for forward or quick enough for guard, dime a dozen, even though I admire what he gets done. We always get "tweeners". Polk is not satisfactoy, no way you can win 20 games with him starting, sorry, I like his hustle but we cannot go on with him. RM is trying with Husack, but he too is a one or two tool player. BE is a good guy to have, but in this environment, is not going to thrive. Needed him last year. I think RM is running this into the ground, does not care if several players wind up leaving, he is brutal, it will be "his" people or nothing, he is even not too worried about what KL or TL think...
  4. Yep. I bet one or two of them will announce they are leaving in a few weeks, between semesters...
  5. Time for a better effort, home game, Sat nite, SLU 57 SHSU 53
  6. [sorry, but I'd rather light my tickets on fire than allow a Packer Fan to have them!] Damn, the guy's MOM wants tickets. You guys are all brutal. I'll get her some tickets, sent a PM. (note: Courtside back from the Obama campaign trail...)
  7. Losing "V" is huge. HUGE. He contributed well beyond his stats, allowed KL and TL to roam free. We have no front line. Everyone's fascination with Luke is fun, but, c'mon... BE would have been nice to have last year, with "V". And, unfortunately, KL and TL are not a great as some people seem to think. Again, how many of our players would start for, say, Gonzaga, Indiana, Texas A&M., Tennessee... mid-teens in the rankings? Much less Duke, etc... no way! BUT wait 'til next year...and the year after that... if RM stays, we should get some real NCAA beef up front.
  8. Agreed. # 1 is unacceptable, he shows no respect, they are not criminals, just not so hot basketball players. Mean spirited stuff, not just tough love to motivate them. #2 is alarming, did the kids quit because they think he is a p---k? We will judge him in future years, when HIS players come through, and if he stays for 3-5 years, good things will happen. But I have lost respect for him the way he talks about being stuck with these kids. Show some class. He might win for us, good, but he is a jerk.
  9. Yep. What are all the knuckleheads that said we would win 24, 25, games saying now?
  10. Yep. If we stay healthy, 20 wins is possible, but one key injury to one of our 3 "real" multi-tool players: KL, TL, or BE for say 6-8 games, and we are worse than last year. But wait 'til next year!
  11. St. Louis Post writers have been jerking SLU around for years, almost too-obvious; bunch of a-holes.
  12. Don't think so... with respect to his contributions, character, etc...
  13. that we have a shot to beat Pitt. especially with the recent upsets. If THE THIRD , KL, and BE play well i think we can win. What does everyone think? We are 13 point dogs, at Pittsburg, 3rd game in 3 days and they are deep. Big East! Hope we can keep it respectable, Majerus' first big test. But it will be awhile before we can deal with teams like this... ask yourself, when you watchhow many of our guys would start for them? KL, TL? Would Polk or Luke (althoug I like him) start for any of the top teams, even in the A-10? No way.
  14. 17-13 regular season, losing "V" hurts more than you think...[/size]
  15. C'mon, I'll bet 1/3 to 1/2 of the players are on it or have been on it and or steroids for a period of time. Who says Pujols isn't on it? Edmonds? Eckstein? There is no way to test for it since everyone's individual blood levels vary to begin with therefore there is no baseline. The only way they can get caught is by being stupid enough to have it shipped in your name, to your residence, etc, as Ankiel evidently was dumb enough to do. Now the meida and fans will drive him bananas again and he will start falling apart a la when he collapsed with pitcher's brain fart-itis.
  16. >we already have two big men Verbal only, and you can never have too many big men. Or too much pitching. Or too many wild chicks.
  17. Great compared to Soderberg's past recruits, but a "B" if you look at national scope. Need a big time big man or a top 25-50 to get to an "A-".
  18. >I agree - MB is off base unless he can produce other names >that we were into and if that was so then RM would not have >taken Femi. Big men are the key. No offense to Femi, I have seen him play several times. He is good. But he is another 'tweener. With a long, long time to go, I just think we can afford to look for another quality big man. I am happy with the two big men we have, but they are only "verbals" and another one would be optimal, and more time and exposure can yield Majerus big dividends. Just think we can afford to be greedy. Names? Not the point, it is June. More names will come. Have I mentioned there is a long, long time to go?
  19. Femi is a good player, but we should have waited, we could have done a lot better by waiting for someone that is more likely to contribute "big time".
  20. >"I really hope St. Louis U. and Missouri resume playing each >other in college basketball. But until they do, I have to >say that it's entertaining to read the fans of each program >making fun of each other and trash talking on Internet >bulletin boards. I'm not taking sides. I want to see Mike >Anderson (Mizzou) and Rick Majerus (SLU) succeed, and in a >major way. But SLU fans are feeling bold, because Majerus >and his staff are landing recruits and bringing hope to the >down-and-out program. And Mizzou fans? Well, the Tigers >haven't qualified for the NCAA Tournament since 2003, but >their fans feel superior to SLU. Let's settle it on the >court. Until that happens, let me say this: If I had to >score a winner on most effective message-board insults, >Mizzou fans win. But SLU fans are making progress. It's all >in good fun." > >http://tinyurl.com/yry42f Mizzou fans win? Are we going to take that? When I graduated from high school, I was given two offers: 1.) Become a student at St. Louis University 2.) Become a professor at The University of Missouri
  21. I think the 3 recruits are fine, although there is no assurance all 3 will actually show up in this day and age. I DO think think that NOW we should not take some of the targeted players that are now borderline... like Femi John... and wait and see if Majerus can hit a home run as he reaches out with the remaining schollies. Plenty of time. Suggs, of course, we take if we can, and probably Brandenberg. But the rest, hold off for now.
  22. >in this entire thread everyone is saying the same thing >expect for 1 random internet poster that has a total of 75 >posts and has been registered for less than 3 months.... Oh, just 75 posts, so I am not a genius like you. Impeccable logic, you win the argument. Let me know when your next book goes on sale. Actually, I learned something, if Hughes has really done some work for SLU radio, etc, as one post stated, then maybe he is OK after all.
  23. Not saying he is a bad guy, but he is not a Billiken to me. St. Louisan, OK, good for him, but not a real Billiken.
  24. Once you are big-time, things come easy, Majerus has that status, has a reputation, NCAA credibility, "X" and "O" "king" so everyone follows him, nobody followed Soderberg, even though he was a good guy. Majerus is making up for lost time, is hungry, and has no real immediate family except Mom. Soderberg had a family and spent a lot of time watching his son instead of scouting for SLU. Soderberg was an introvert, RM an extrovert, people like him. Majerus is smart enough to work with local AAU community, etc, Soderberg was not. Fatal mistake. Majerus has charisma, Soderberg does not. THOSE are the reasons that everything appears to be clicking for RM. Looking good... not there yet, but looking good.
  25. >"Mizzou is history" > >How so? > > >"they had a good thing going and blew it." > >What did they have going and how did they blow it? Quin >Snyder was a horrible coach since then they have hired Mike >Anderson. > > >"Almost no chance of recovering. Buried." > >They already improved last season and will do so again this >year. They had a great thing with Coach Stewart, an incredible pipeline of talent with loyal contributors who kept them comin'. Solid coaching, too. Blew it when he retired, they got too loose with their moral standards for players, hired a joke like Quinn Snyder, they did not do their homework on his personal standards, he wanted to party with the students. Some programs can recover from a bad run. BUT for Mizzou-RA it is too late because they do not have the ability to recover a la UCLA with incredible tradition, sexier location, somewhat better conference, and famous alumni (Walton, Jabbar) who can be of impact and still get primo players to go there. WHO wants to play for the # 6 - # 8 team in Big 12? Missouri is a small state, Columbia is nowhere, MU is mediocre academically, Anderson is unproven although I like him. Whole Big 12 is a drag to travel within... A McDonalds All American or 4* player who could go to SEC, Big East, ACC, Big Ten, or even Pac-10, why go to MU? THEN if you play in the Big 12, go to KU, Texas, Oklahoma, Ok. State, Texas Tech first. A&M, K-State last year were more attractive, now with Huggins gone, K-State is not anymore. Last year they did not really do better, it was just a total collapse the previous one, the gave up, so anybody wouold have imroved this year... remember all of their "wins" agains absolute lowest tier competition. MU players from the previous season were superior. This year, no new recruits, only a few kids are "players", they are not going to recover. Death spiral. NIT will be the best they do in the next 5 years. WANNA BET??? SLU now has them outflanked, big-name coach, better school, way better city, and the new campus arena. Biggest thing MU has is lower tiered majors available (like personal trainer under guise of "Health Management") and yes, the Big 12 is better conferencce athletically albeit boring small cow-towns, and BCS football excitement. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, MIZZOU-RA!
