Truly wonder how much of this MVC talk is nothing more than leverage and fear directed to the A 10. While SLU and Charlotte made the conference better by adding 2 quality schools and programs in 2 new, large markets, the increase in the number of teams to 14 made scheduling and travel more difficult for all. With a 3rd place finish the first year, then a 20 win season with big wins in the conference tourney, SLU has made an impact in the conference. Now, with the new arena and hiring RM, SLU's hand has been strengthened. L. Bruno's attendance at the PC was no accident. It's nice to know that SLU has options: stay in A-10 but make demands for our staying, join the MVC, initiate talks about a new conference.

Frankly, it was disappointing. Don't get me wrong. Much, much better than in recent times -Grawer, Romar and Sodie - but not at the level, by any means, of Marquette, Dayton, or what you would expect/hope for in comparison to the team assembled on the Court. Also, Spoon greatly encourage, supported, mentioned and praised the college kids.

Recall Brad saying last year, after the signing of AK, the medical improvement of OI and late addition of HD, that it would be a long year if LM was our best option at the 4. When the other 3 failed to step up, Brad praised LM and did everything he could (pack D, guard assist, chance after chance to JJ)to hide the failures of these 3. Still have great hope for AK in that I blame Brad for not giving him a chance to see what he can do. Face it. Not even Brad thinks LM can really play the 4. Hence, the signing of Relephorde, the addition of a tough kid like Mitchell and the efforts to sign additional bigs. I will say it again this year. It will be a long year if LM is our best option at the 4

So what about conflicts. Even if every other game was relocated, then at least 1/2 of the games will be on a real radio station. When the "voice of the Bills" cannot be heard by many areas, and severe static in most other areas, of the St. Louis metropolitan area, then we really don't have a radio voice. How many kids from the East side (KL, TL and Mithcell), from Washington (LM) and outstate (AK) will grow up without even being able to hear the Bills. KMOX can be heard everywhere in traditional SLU recruiting territories: throughout MO (Springfield, Cape, Kansas City), throughout IL (including Chicago - Relephorde, Marquee Perry). Another factor demonstrating SLU is big-time basketball.

What's a bigger joke: no live PC or KFNS as the voice of the Bills. Both MUST change: new PR Director is needed. How fitting that I checked my mailbox at work containing Saturday's mail and I see the latest issue of Universitas with the cover page reading: Experts - Meet the Media-Savvy Faculty of SLU and depticting 10 faclulty/administrators. All of this in addition to Julius Hunter - former local news anchor for years and years. Fr. Biondi: how about using one of your experts!!

Why compare? What's your agenda? Completely different situations. Go back to Tigerboard. BTW, who cares about quantity other than you - if you had your way, you would have given out 30 schollies by now.

Perhaps you don't understand. AD's don't increase their demand and become more marketable by sitting around and acting like a sponge in the presence of a guys like RM. CL had nothing to do with the firing of Brad or the hiring of RM. If SLU does well over the next few years, it will not be b/c of CL. She has demonstrated here at SLU that she can review and fire (J. Pizzotti) and make a good hire (Shimmy Gray). She already is a good AD. Unless she was truly part of the plan to hire RM, and instrumental in getting it done, all she did is hear about Fr. Biondi's firing of Brad, become angry and embarassed, call the head-hunter which SLU did not need and then keep quiet for 2 weeks. Without football, and knowing that RM will run the show at SLU, all that is left is to oversee the volleyball, golf and swim teams. Not much of a challenge. CL is too skilled to be a yes man to RM.

Jerry Seinfeld on Rick Majerus

Think about. Fr. Biondi announces XYZ as the new Head Coach. Some reporter with a camera sees a SLU player walking across the campus and says "What do you think about XYZ as your new Head Coach?" The SLU player then says "What??" "Really??" and then give a deer-in-the-headlights look on camera. Nice... -
Apparently, RM can go to to this King James Classic. Would there be any real advantage to him going this weekend and then signing with SLU on Monday? Idea coming from another thread.

RM to keep Soderberg as Assistant?
Clock_Tower replied to victor's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
The suggestion of Brad as assistant coach actually makes Joe Mimlitz look more attractive. -
Thanks to all.

Is there a consensus of what did or did not happen in recent days. Please, no jokes. 1. Has RM ever been in St. Louis? If so, when. 2. Doc B, DPS and Metz all confirmed he was on campus yesterday? If so, was this his 1st or 2nd visit? Timmerman suggests he was not in town? 3. No meeting with the team last night. Correct? 4. What city is RM located in today? 5. Any sightings of Sandy Montag or other associated with RM? 6. No press conferences scheduled but The Band and others are still on hold to be available on short notice.
-
Any word about the expected meeting between RM and the team?? Assume it took place. Any leaks as to where, when, who attended and/or other details?

Basically the same as earlier - from espn

JG. Which demands are outrageous? "Way beyond SLU's means unless thy get outside source(s) to contribute". Have not heard, SLU has a donor named Chaifetz? -

Crawl or slither back underneath the rock you call home. Comments like yours demonstrate you have zero knowledge or credibility - just pure jealosy. Even without RM, our program is better off than it was 2 weeks ago if, as I understand, Fr. Biondi is making a true commitment to the program. We know facilities are on the way but if budgets, coaching staffs, S & C trainers, resources etc. will be improved, then I'd be fine with C. Martin. In fact, if these obstacles were permanently removed, Spoon, Romar and Brad would have been more successful and one of them might be still coaching. Get lost troll. PS Comments like yours will make tomorrow's announcement that much sweeter. -
Don't be so sure. You fired him once before and have had coaching openings over the last few years. Can't recall anyone ever being fired and then rehired. Since you are certain, please cite us examples of others who have been fired and rehired. While you're at it, please give us an idea as to your sources. Even so, at 59 and with health concerns now, then a few years here, why would you want him then?

Jealousy dripping from the corners of your mouth is not becoming. Get a life! In the meantime, learn to spell.

Have to respect his power and sources. Sources are not equal or near that of Frank C in this case. Believe BM and Burwell were personally offended by the exclusion of tips to Timmerman, them and the Post Dispatch. In general, he and other local media look at SLU as a second rate, sometimes, third rate program. Despite occasional success on the court, SLU has consistently bungled and underperformed when it comes to media and public relations. Add to this SLU's failure to fully support the athletic department, facilities and media package and SLU becomes a program that it is difficult to support when SLU doesn't help itself. At the same time, many of his attacks are, in fact, petty and patronizing. The homerun everyone is talking, IMO, is not just RM as the head coach but the apparent total upgrade and funding of the athletic department as well.

X. Sticking with topic of L. Bruno, have you heard anything about the league TV contract? What is XU pushing for? Presumably, XU was negatively affected (as were all league schools) but you still had relatively good coverage. Am I correct? How many of your games were on TV and what channel? Fox Sports Ohio?? What does XU hope and expect for improved TV from Bruno?

Speaking of the Valley, would someone tell Barry Hinson to stop calling SLU. I know he wants a better job and to get out of Springfield. Who wouldn't? But really, it's getting annoying, Barry.
-
It would not be stupid for CL to leave if she were truly kept out of the loop. Believe CL fired Jill P. and not Fr. Biondi. SLU only has 1 large revenue sport - Men's basketball. If the above were true, is not the message simply: CL is in charge of the everything except Men's basketball? CL left Santa Clara for a new challenge, for a higher profile men's basketball program and to come back to her home town. If not really in charge of men's basketball, CL can and will find a new job - most likely one with both men's basketball and football.
-
Do we know if CL was truly out of the loop or if she was simply overruled, accepted the same and stepped aside to let Fr. Biondi fire him? Apparently, she is not sulking or quitting. Wonder if she was truly sick the evening of the banquet. Anyone with sources know about her attitude the moring of, later that day, the next day, now? Understand that this was probably Fr. Biondi's decision to fire Brad now while she supported Brad (at least for 1 more year) and apparently told the recruits and the families of the recruits that Brad would be back next year. I know there have been no press conferences but has anything been suggested by Frank C? Rammer? Anyone with any information on this?
-
Attactive - Yes - but we were in a major conference during the Spoon years - CUSA. Huggins and Cincy, Denny Crum and Louisville, Memphis together with DePaul and Marquette. No comparision with the current A 10. No doubt, though, that potential exists.

Lack of class on Levick for meeting w/Gillen
Clock_Tower replied to inthelou's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Lou. You're so off base. CL's loyalty is to SLU and not to Brad. I have been a big supporter of Brad's, believe he should have been given 1 more year.... but I have no problem with her having discussions with Gillen. In fact, I would have a problem if she didn't have discussions to test the waters with Gillen and/or other guys. Do you not know what an AD's job is? Ever wonder how people develop and maintain connections within the industry? -
the more they are the same. Think about it. For the last several months, all we have been hearing is that SLU needs to get rid of our HC so that the next Coach K will walk thru the doors at West Pine. With this new HC, we will get players who prefer a more up-tempo style (even though Brad has opened things up and was changing to this), we won't play the pack-D because it doesn't work(even though Brad and SLU had previously been quite successful with this), that Brad would be in trouble because CL was tough and had a history of not tolerating mediocrity (appears to be supporting Brad still), that Fr. Biondi is a shrewd businessman who has and will give the program ample financial support - we were all to look at the new Arena as proof (those of us who questioned why the 2 year delay, why fundraising was so poor and the shocking news and poor PR handling that the arena was being downsized from 14,000 or so to 10,000 and now up to 10,600 were ridiculed) and that SLU is 1 head coach away from being the next Gonzaga, SIUC, etc (despite many of us saying the real problems at SLU lie with the structure and administration and not with the revolving door of head coaches). I sure hope we hit the homerun and get the next Coack K. Personally, my hope had more to do with knowing CL is in charge (Woolard gone), that J Walker would be helping Brad recruit and that if things did not get better next year, Brad would be gone, CL would have made more changes behind the scenes, the new Arena would be ready, the A10 conference and TV contract improved and the HC would not have as many obstacles to success/excuses. Now, I am concerned CL will be gone and am reminded of a prior organization leader: Bill Bidwell. Well done, Fr. Bidwell. May you hit a home run!
