  1. Why can I now predict the future?? Harrelson becomes the next Stemler. V will be telling us all about how great Harrellson is - "top center in 2008 class" - and be posting non-stop for the next few months for us to sign him in Fall before he ever plays JUCO. If RM doesn't sign him without watching him play games first, then RM is labeled a bad judge of talent, should have offered early... If, on the other hand, Harrelson proves to be average and more worthy of WIU talent, his name will be dropped in favor of 10 other can't miss guys. Are we trying to establish a good college basketball team or an AAU team consisting only of local players willing to wear SLU jerseys?
  2. Unlike his predecessor, Brad left the program much better off than when he inherited it. Without KL and TL, together with our cast of other players and 2 new recruits, don't believe RM would be our coach.
  3. It may be a bunch of BS - but - notice that Doug Elgin is always involved in each episode of SLU and the Valley. Elgin is always interviewed, always denies active or on-going communications but then always leaves the door open with, IMO, the intent to increase the speculation. If Elgin and the Valley had no interest or desire for SLU to join, the message would get out and this story would be dead. Elgin is really a media mastermind and possibly the best commission in college basketball. Don't think for a minute that Doug Elgin is not helping fuel the fire being spread by the MVC's official news outlet: the Post Dispatch.
  4. Skip. Agree with your post but you are being way too kind to the Post and TT. TT has improved, in large part, due to the Post providing him with resources to start his blog. This, coupled with the fact that they sent TT to the A 10 conference tourney where he could hang out, watch the team and send back good copy. In part, the end of year success gave him more to write about and more access to Brad and the program. With that said his coverage is far from first rate. Case in point: TT writes his article published Friday morning that the RM SLU deal could be falling apart and yet this was totally wrong - Contract signed and announced later that day. First rate would imply, IMO, that TT has some type of handle, access or insight into the program. Turns out, TT had less info than I did. Also, first rate would mean that TT writes the lead article about the hiring of RM. Instead, the Post gave that job to Vahe G. who has never cared about the Bills and who has no knowledge at all for this - SLU's biggest news in years. As a result, Vahe quotes an MVC coach (Dana Altman) and the MVC Commissioner. Does the Post not have the phone number of any A10 coach? Linda Bruno was at the PC but no quote from her. Guess Vahe did not know who she was or that she was here in town. Then, the "first rate" Post writes the good news but heavily cautions the same with RM's health concerns and Bernie's rumor of SLU's imminent move the Valley. What a joke!! First rate, IMO, would be 1 1/2 to 2 writers who truly know about and care about the Bills.
  5. Nate. Thanks for the PM. Not sure where the word "Amy" came from in my post. Had to explain the same to my wife too. Did not realize I could have edited my post.
  6. Nate. Keep posting but Roy does have some points. You may only be the messenger but please give us some insight in that it does appear there to be a silent, unknown community which likes to take cheap shots at SLU. I could be wrong, but it appears that Roy is calling you (possibly just the messenger) out for these attacks - Charlie got lazy, Brad stopped recruiting kids... Not asking, of course, for the names of your sources but do believe that certain influential people within the AAU community and/or certain high school HCs have an axe to grind with SLU. Would that be fair? Seems that Spoon and his assistants had trouble with Cardinal Ritter and others. Then, Romar and Irons (and many of his allies) did not get along all that well. Most likely, Brad did not get along with certain guys either. Possibly, each of the instances involve different people and different incidents over a number of years. With that said, can you give any insight as to source of these problems. Have some of their guys been ignored in favor of out of state guys? Is there a feeling that 1 or more from this community should have been given more access to SLU and/or been an assistant coach. With a history of several recent SLU coaches, 2 White and 1 Black, what gives? Roundtree, Grimes and Shaw are just the latest to say he likes SLU but not commit. Didn't SLU come in second for Jahidi White and Chris Carawell. Not too long ago was Jimmy McKinney. This has gone on for quite awhile. Naturally, most guys want to stay in town and be the next Scott Highmark or Erwin Claggett but, for various reasons, end up going elsewhere - usually for what they believe to be better basketball situations but lesser cities and schools. Any thoughts? Amy
  7. Don't be so certain. I have never seen Relphorde and most on this Board have not either - or at least have not seen much of him. We all have seen LM. He was our best 4 last year and I give LM great credit, am glad he is a Billiken and look forward to his contributions his senior year. At the same time, I can say, for sure, he is not a 4. While IV did not have the year we had hoped for, IV was a true 5 and did help hide some of LM's flaws playing the 4. Without IV (AK and BH), LM will get even more exposed. LM has a role on this team and I am confident RM will use him. Am very curious to see how RM uses him. If Relephorde is a 4, he will easily beat out LM.
  8. Truly wonder how much of this MVC talk is nothing more than leverage and fear directed to the A 10. While SLU and Charlotte made the conference better by adding 2 quality schools and programs in 2 new, large markets, the increase in the number of teams to 14 made scheduling and travel more difficult for all. With a 3rd place finish the first year, then a 20 win season with big wins in the conference tourney, SLU has made an impact in the conference. Now, with the new arena and hiring RM, SLU's hand has been strengthened. L. Bruno's attendance at the PC was no accident. It's nice to know that SLU has options: stay in A-10 but make demands for our staying, join the MVC, initiate talks about a new conference.
  9. Frankly, it was disappointing. Don't get me wrong. Much, much better than in recent times -Grawer, Romar and Sodie - but not at the level, by any means, of Marquette, Dayton, or what you would expect/hope for in comparison to the team assembled on the Court. Also, Spoon greatly encourage, supported, mentioned and praised the college kids.
  10. Recall Brad saying last year, after the signing of AK, the medical improvement of OI and late addition of HD, that it would be a long year if LM was our best option at the 4. When the other 3 failed to step up, Brad praised LM and did everything he could (pack D, guard assist, chance after chance to JJ)to hide the failures of these 3. Still have great hope for AK in that I blame Brad for not giving him a chance to see what he can do. Face it. Not even Brad thinks LM can really play the 4. Hence, the signing of Relephorde, the addition of a tough kid like Mitchell and the efforts to sign additional bigs. I will say it again this year. It will be a long year if LM is our best option at the 4
  11. So what about conflicts. Even if every other game was relocated, then at least 1/2 of the games will be on a real radio station. When the "voice of the Bills" cannot be heard by many areas, and severe static in most other areas, of the St. Louis metropolitan area, then we really don't have a radio voice. How many kids from the East side (KL, TL and Mithcell), from Washington (LM) and outstate (AK) will grow up without even being able to hear the Bills. KMOX can be heard everywhere in traditional SLU recruiting territories: throughout MO (Springfield, Cape, Kansas City), throughout IL (including Chicago - Relephorde, Marquee Perry). Another factor demonstrating SLU is big-time basketball.
  12. What's a bigger joke: no live PC or KFNS as the voice of the Bills. Both MUST change: new PR Director is needed. How fitting that I checked my mailbox at work containing Saturday's mail and I see the latest issue of Universitas with the cover page reading: Experts - Meet the Media-Savvy Faculty of SLU and depticting 10 faclulty/administrators. All of this in addition to Julius Hunter - former local news anchor for years and years. Fr. Biondi: how about using one of your experts!!
  13. Why compare? What's your agenda? Completely different situations. Go back to Tigerboard. BTW, who cares about quantity other than you - if you had your way, you would have given out 30 schollies by now.
  14. Perhaps you don't understand. AD's don't increase their demand and become more marketable by sitting around and acting like a sponge in the presence of a guys like RM. CL had nothing to do with the firing of Brad or the hiring of RM. If SLU does well over the next few years, it will not be b/c of CL. She has demonstrated here at SLU that she can review and fire (J. Pizzotti) and make a good hire (Shimmy Gray). She already is a good AD. Unless she was truly part of the plan to hire RM, and instrumental in getting it done, all she did is hear about Fr. Biondi's firing of Brad, become angry and embarassed, call the head-hunter which SLU did not need and then keep quiet for 2 weeks. Without football, and knowing that RM will run the show at SLU, all that is left is to oversee the volleyball, golf and swim teams. Not much of a challenge. CL is too skilled to be a yes man to RM.
  15. Think about. Fr. Biondi announces XYZ as the new Head Coach. Some reporter with a camera sees a SLU player walking across the campus and says "What do you think about XYZ as your new Head Coach?" The SLU player then says "What??" "Really??" and then give a deer-in-the-headlights look on camera. Nice...
  16. Apparently, RM can go to to this King James Classic. Would there be any real advantage to him going this weekend and then signing with SLU on Monday? Idea coming from another thread.
  17. The suggestion of Brad as assistant coach actually makes Joe Mimlitz look more attractive.
  18. Is there a consensus of what did or did not happen in recent days. Please, no jokes. 1. Has RM ever been in St. Louis? If so, when. 2. Doc B, DPS and Metz all confirmed he was on campus yesterday? If so, was this his 1st or 2nd visit? Timmerman suggests he was not in town? 3. No meeting with the team last night. Correct? 4. What city is RM located in today? 5. Any sightings of Sandy Montag or other associated with RM? 6. No press conferences scheduled but The Band and others are still on hold to be available on short notice.
  19. Any word about the expected meeting between RM and the team?? Assume it took place. Any leaks as to where, when, who attended and/or other details?
  20. JG. Which demands are outrageous? "Way beyond SLU's means unless thy get outside source(s) to contribute". Have not heard, SLU has a donor named Chaifetz?
  21. Crawl or slither back underneath the rock you call home. Comments like yours demonstrate you have zero knowledge or credibility - just pure jealosy. Even without RM, our program is better off than it was 2 weeks ago if, as I understand, Fr. Biondi is making a true commitment to the program. We know facilities are on the way but if budgets, coaching staffs, S & C trainers, resources etc. will be improved, then I'd be fine with C. Martin. In fact, if these obstacles were permanently removed, Spoon, Romar and Brad would have been more successful and one of them might be still coaching. Get lost troll. PS Comments like yours will make tomorrow's announcement that much sweeter.
  22. Don't be so sure. You fired him once before and have had coaching openings over the last few years. Can't recall anyone ever being fired and then rehired. Since you are certain, please cite us examples of others who have been fired and rehired. While you're at it, please give us an idea as to your sources. Even so, at 59 and with health concerns now, then a few years here, why would you want him then?
  23. Jealousy dripping from the corners of your mouth is not becoming. Get a life! In the meantime, learn to spell.
