  1. Does SLU have any remaining scholarships to hand out for next year?
  2. I was not at the game. My comments were not made about this specific game. They were comments about careers.
  3. I'll agree with you to a degree. The SI article with the "meddlesome father" paragraph probably did cause great hurt to Liddell and his family. Though Majerus obviously didn't write the article, he should have shown more discretion in the interview process. But, I also strongly disagree with you on being "puzzled" by what has happened in the careers of Liddell and Lisch. Liddell and Lisch, particularly Liddell, have been vastly over-rated since Day 1. They aren't great players - good players YES, great NO - AND their suppporting cast for much of their 4 years has clearly not been good, which is why they never played in the postseason. I think fans expected too much out of Tommie and he's just not a great, 'take the game over' type player. He has some obvious strengths, but he has obvious weaknesses too. He is a guard with more turnovers than assists for his career (AND THAT WAS THE CASE BEFORE MAJERUS TOOK OVER AS WELL). Liddell was a victim of inflated expectations. As for Lisch, although overall a better player than Liddell, he is not a GREAT player either. I think Lisch could have thrived in a system like Carbondale's Justin Dentmon is thriving for UW. Dentmon may be 1st-team all-Pac 10 this year, and all he is asked to do is hit 3s and free throws, dish the ball to Brockman and play defense. I think Lisch could have found a similar niche on a very good team. But Lisch had no Brockmans, Isiah Thomas on his team at SLU, and thus, he was the main focus of the oppositon's game plan, and often struggled. As for the future of SLU basketball, I'm excited about it. Majerus is a proven winner, and has a winner in Mitchell at point guard and Reed at power forward, and by most accounts, a very solid recruiting class coming in next year. I like what he has done so far. They are 2 years away from being a really good team. While last night might have been tough, it was the end (well Wednesday or Thursday will likely be the end) of an era, not just the Liddell/Lisch era, I'm talking about a 10-year era since Highmark and Claggett graduated, and I'm glad to close the book on it.
  4. I click on that link but the game does not come on. I hit 'play' and it does not come on. Anything I am missing?
  5. At least the game is on TV. Only 2nd time I've seen the Billikens all year.
  6. Proof of Life. Most promising performance by SLU in a LONG....LONG... time. We finally have a roster of legitimate D1 players, playing together, and playing a brand of basketball worth watching. The kids actually looked like they were having fun out there.
  7. That's the best 10 minutes of basketball I've seen SLU play in a LONG time.
  8. Someone said SIU basketball was "junk". It's such junk they make the NCAA tourney 2 out of every 3 years. What about SLU basketball? We have been talking about these boring Billikens 50 point games for several years now. Even that 46-45 win over Charlotte a few years ago was boring. Keep the series alive.
  9. > >the truth is, if they leave, they will become insignificant >to the st louis area compared to the basketball heros they >could become to st louis if they play for the billikens. I don't always agree with you Roy, but I'm with you 100% on that observation.
  10. Heck of a house, but good luck getting $1.7 million for it in today's market. Just out of curiosity, what did Soderberg make per year as SLU's coach?
  11. I know San Diego State is trying to get SLU to play at SDSU this year, perhaps in a tourney, and then San Diego State would come to play at SLU the following year.
  12. Who do we play? I assume SIU is one of the teams, but how about the remainder?
  13. Dr. Tom Davis is not in the same league as Rick Majerus. Des Moines or Ames or wherever the heck Drake is, is not St. Louis. Lubbock, Texas is not St. Louis. The expectations are justified when you are playing in the St. Louis market and you have a coach with a .773 winning percentage, NCAA Championship game experience, and who has put 11 players in the NBA. The days of SIU being superior or even on the same level as SLU will be over very shortly, and I grew up in Southern Illinois.
  14. The A-10 doesn't make sense, BUT neither does the Missouri Valley. What I would like to see is SLU join with other Catholic schools and form a new conference. Xavier, Dayton, DePaul, Marquette, Saint Louis, Notre Dame (excluding football), Providence, Georgetown, St. John's, Villanova, Seton Hall, St. Joseph's East Region: Georgetown Seton Hall Villanova St. John's Providence St. Joseph's West Region: Xavier Dayton DePaul Saint Louis Notre Dame Marquette With the exception of Notre Dame, none of the schools above play football at the D1 level, so it would not be a problem in that regard.
  15. > I didn't just miss this one. Imo the bet was obvious, tri >box the big 3. $5. tri box on Curlin, Street Sense and Hard >Spun for a $125. payoff. > > > Official Billikens.com sponsor of H >Waldman > >Official Sponser of the Stemmler and Ahearn could and would >have helped club. Great call. I was thinking Curlin or Street Sense, not so much a tri box with Hard Spun.
  16. Was John born in the U.S.? I know that the name 'Femi' is a Nigerian name.
  17. From illinoishighschoolsports.com, from fans who have seen him play. Here are some comments, ALL of which were made BEFORE he signed with SLU... -"Thompson is likely to be used as a 4 on the college level ... whether he'll be physical enough to do so effectively is a question." response.. -"I agree. He will have to put on a lot of weight and get stronger. I was at the game last year when O'Rear manhandled Thompson. I wish him the best, but I don't see him playing in the Big 10." more comments... -"I see him playing both the 4 and the 5. However, it will all depend on the system that the school he chooses runs for their offense. I see him needing to add much more strength in the legs to make for a more sturdy base for the next level." -"I saw the entire game of Thompson vs O'Rear. Lucas got the better of Thompson but I wouldn't describe it as "easy". Several Nashville fans I spoke with after the game agreed with me that Thompson's length caused Big Luke some problems on the offensive end. Offensively, Thompson couldn't seem to do much at all against a shorter/stronger O'Rear. Brett ended with 7 pts , with 3 of those coming on a late 3-pointer with O'Rear out of the game. Lucas finished with what I believe was his lowest point total of the season at 12 pts., but Luke did a nice job defending, rebounding, passing, and breaking the press. Two years ago, at the SIU-C Summer Super-Sectional in front of an attentive Chris Lowery, Riverton beat Vienna 38-35. Tisdale held Thompson to zero points. Tisdale scored 25 of Riverton's 38 to win the game and blocked 4 shots along with grabbing 11 boards. They played each other straight up, with no need for double-teams. Afterward, Coach Metcalf described that game as a wake-up call for Thompson, something he absolutely needed. Both Tisdale and Thompson have shown A LOT of improvement since then, but with Mike being a first-team all-stater two years in-a-row, I wouldn't describe Thompson as a better all-around player yet. Many college scouts feel they both have a tremendous upside, so hopefully both will live up to their expected potential and billing. We'll see. I wish them both the best." "With his soft shooting touch and range out to the 3-pt line, I feel Thompson will play the 4 in college. The four games I watched O'Rear play last year, he certainly played the 5. I think O'Rear will play some 3 and 4 in college." -"thompson is very talented, and is deserving of the pub, i think he is a better all around player than tisdale and what everybody doesnt see is thompson playing against better competition in aau. he seems to step it up against opponents that only single and double team rather than always get 3 or more around him, he is hoop savvy as well. but i agree best in so il in last 10 yrs no. but in the conversation yes and he has a year to go and he is working hard." -"Thompson's a solid player, but if Thompson is a 4* player, the Tisdale should have been a 6* instead of a 3*. Thompson must have a much better publicist." -"Right now, Thompson's biggest asset is the ground he can cover on the defensively end. He would be a great fit for a team that plays alot of 2-3. Offensively, he has a very nice touch from the outside, especially for a big man, but he has a very long way to go with his back to the basket if he wants to get any minutes at Notre Dame, Indiana, or Alabama."
  18. Can't imagine Meyer not starting, at least initially. He was one of the most improved and consistent players on the team last year, and is a weight room guy and a scholar athlete, the type of player coaches like.
  19. >I would be shocked if this hasnt already been posted but our >new coach was the coach of the Utah team that knocked us out >of our last ncaa appearance. i thought that was kind of >funny > > > >"I was on fire, I was hotter than a pistol" Jason McElwaine >If theres no SLU basketball in heaven I'm not going!!!!!! >Official Billikens.com Sponsor of Chris Sloan and Billiken >Volleyball >and Official Billiken.com Online Video Guy The SLU-Utah game was one of the most boring basketball games in the history of the NCAA tourney.
  20. About the roster...we need a point guard and 2 power forwards, but I believe we only have 2 scholarships remaining, so there is no way we fill those 3 needs. I really see SLU being about the same as this year, or slightly worse. At best, we will be a NIT team.
  21. The Big Ten is overrated. Michigan State, Indiana and Illinois are all out of the tourney. Purdue will be tomorrow. Ohio State should have been out today if not for a poor decision by Xavier not to foul with 3 point lead.
