Other than his fantastic wife, I've never understood the fascination with Andy Enfield. The jump to SMU seems like him bolting before USC closed the door. He's a classic example of kind of a one-hit wonder - wins a couple of games in the Tourney and all of the sudden is the flavor of the month for P6 jobs.

Dude has been to a Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight. He has a 7-6 record in the NCAA tournament.  He isn’t John Wooden, but he isn’t Travis Ford either.

    Open message to Sycamore fans......

I am still rooting for the Sycamores tonight.  You need to enjoy the ride and appreciate that Schertz will be leaving the program much better than he found it.  If it wasn't us, it would be someone else.  I expect in a few years we will be experiencing what it is happening to your program right now.  Good luck tonight and stay classy.

The posters at sycamore pride.com finally realize that he is leaving, and none of them have anything good to say about SLU.  One went so far as to say that Schertz would have a hard time building a team this spring.  I understand the fans going crazy, but a lot of them don’t seem to realize that players seem to be able to transfer anytime they want without penalty and sell their services to the highest bidder.  I don’t think they understand what some of their current starters can earn on the open market.

They think $300-400,000 can keep their team together.  They don't really understand the kind of dollars that are being thrown around across basketball.

But if he’s leaving, Schertz hasn’t told his team yet, according to a source. And Schertz did nothing to provide hints at an NIT press conference ahead of tonight's meeting with Utah at 6 p.m.

A source in Indianapolis said Schertz has not informed players or staff members about whether he is leaving — “No indication at all” — and likely would not until after the last game. Media who cover the team have not received any indication from Schertz about his future.

    He is leaving.

    • I think it is interesting that 1.5 years after contacting BVF, I got an email today asking if I wanted to talk with them.  Better late than never, eh?
It actually came from Matthew Jakobsze, J.D.
    • Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance and NIL
    • Billiken Athletics

Jakobsze on paper is one of the best and most interesting hires SLU has made.  Glad to see he is taking a prominent role in BVF.

I believe his son Tony played AAU ball with Blake.

It is amazing to see Floyd going to bat for a De Smet guy given the history of that rivalry over the years.

Except his son is now the Vashon coach, so he does have some influence on those players.

But it is much different now with the portal and NIL from when Floyd was coaching.  Everybody and their brother has handlers/agents now, too.

Tony and Floyd Irons are not going to to tell kids not to come to SLU because Blake didn't get the job.  The best thing for Tony's future is that as many of his players as possible move on to the best situations as possible after Vashon. He isn't going to work to stop that from happening if that situation happens to be SLU for some of his kids.

UConn is the best team since...?

At least the 2006-07 Florida squad, right?

Probably since the 90-91 UNLV team. It didn’t end well for them.  The UNLV team the year before was pretty damn good, too.

Non-NCAA tournaments for women seem like there's just no info, I haven't even seen any media about that stupid WBIT that the NCAA started to compete with the WNIT.

I read more about the WBIT and I am a fan now.  I like the fact the NCAA added a tournament that isn’t pay for play and covers the travel costs for teams.

  10. The money ISU can pay Schertz isn’t even the biggest reason Schertz wants out of ISU.  They aren’t going to be able to keep the team together to run it back again even if Schertz would stay.  Schertz knows that.  They don’t have the NIL money or the facilities needed for that.  That can’t all be fixed before the transfer window closes. That is the reason he has determined he is leaving.

Gtfo, he’s not staying at ISU.  If it wasn’t a lock he’s coming here, he’d have for sure gone to Louisville.  Over 20+ years of fandom, I’ve come to expect that what can go wrong with SLU hoops will go wrong, and even I think it’s a done deal.

Unless something I was told before our season was even over was completely incorrect, there was no possibility of Schertz returning to ISU.  If things didn't work out for him at SLU he was going to take a new job somewhere.  He already had back plan in FAU because he knew it was going to be open if nothing worked out anywhere else.

I doubt ISU could have found a way to fix all of the issues Schertz saw with being able to keep the program at ISU sustainable beyond this season.  It isn't just getting enough money to keep Schertz, it is not being able to have the funds and other things the players want to keep the team he built together.
