  1. His article today was bad. It was poorly written and focused way to much on SLU in CUSA although we are obviously going to the A-10. But those that criticize Gordon the person need to back off. I contend that besides Frank, Earl and maybe Ramsey there probably isn't a bigger Billikens supporter than him. He may be an ex-antler but he writes more critical articles on Snyder and more positive articles on the Bills than just about anyone. Again, today's article was bad, but he is an ally and we'd be foolish to turn him against us when we already have a shortage of allies in the media.
  2. in criticizing Marquette and Depaul for leaving. We would have done the same thing in a heartbeat if given the opportunity. How do I know that? Because we have done that twice in the past. We did it to Xavier in the formation of the Great Midwest and Dayton in the formation of CUSA. And don't give me that b.s. about us wanting those schools in, we did no more and no less to get them in than Marquette and Depaul did to get US in the Big East. Thankfully Dayton and Xavier didn't harbor the same ill will towards us that you seemingly feel for Depaul and Marquette. Otherwise we'd be heading to the MVC. We look like little crybabies when we post anti-Marquette and Depaul stuff. Everybody that posts this stuff should grow. Now with all that being said, you can rest assured from now on I will be rooting for A-10 teams against CUSA teams. Xavier vs. Cinci. Clearly Xavier. Dayton vs. Marquette. Clearly Dayton. And you'd better believe when Marquette plays Cinci I'll still be calling for Marquette.
  3. at this point and I don't blame him for waiting two days. Simply pu I think everybody that has criticized this man needs to at least acknowledge on Thursday when we get the invite to the A-10 that he did a good job. Given the situation we were in it is basically the best possible outcome. Kudos to Doug. Now build us that arena!
  4. the most insightful (not for billikens.com readers) info of the night was from a caller who refrenced some of the recent articles on the baord. I have a feeling it was Torch???
  5. and I don't think Bernie means to be this stupid but sometimes he just doesn't get it. He's now suggesting that if SLU had only started up a football program they would have been invited to the Big East a-la South Florida. Of course he totally ignores the fact that South Florida is in the football hotbed of the world and the Big East just wants to to keep the pressense down there. I seriously doubt the Big East is looking at the St. Louis highschool talent and wondering how it can get a foothold in the area. He just doesn't get it. Thursday can't come soon enough so we can 1) end all the media speculation about us going to the MVC and 2) stupid posts about Worst Case scenarios won't happen. Why people insist on worrying about things that aren't going to happen is beyond me.
  6. I'm sure if JJ had been playing it would have been 20-10 or something.
  7. we are most likely heading to the A-10 aren't you? The fact is SLU is going to come out of this ok. I'm sure thats what you wer hoping for all along.
  8. The thing that I always find difficult to analyze after watching a typical Billikens practice is how good is the offense. There are very few teams (Marquette maybe being one and sometimes Cinci) that play as good defensively as we do. Add in the fact that these guys all know eachother and their tendencies and weaknesses and its a miracle our offense ever scores in scrimmages. Plus, in most scrimmages (not necessarily the one ones with refs) there are almost no fouls called. Its probably too early to have any results back but is there any word on who AIA has played and how they have done?
  9. She was a hottie. I was sitting pretty close to her and I had trouble watching the practice. Way to go Ross.
  10. A couple things from these articles: First, I was disapointed that the Post article wasn't more emphatic that we are going ot the A-10. I don't like articles discussing multiple options, etc. The sooner we get an invite the better. Also, I've got to wonder if the shake-up has left some bad-blood. Soderberg and Cal call a meeting to complain about Marquette getting 9 home games? I doubt this would have happened if the conference was still solid. I hope we keep good working relationships with the 4 big-East bound schools as I would enjoy playing each of them once a year for the foreseable future. I suspect the tensions between the schools will be considerably more noticable then ever the next two years before we all head our separate ways.
  11. deals where we get a home game and then the other team plays a game away from their traditional home-court yet still decidedly in their favor. Kansas, St. Bonnaventure and now West Virginia spring to mind immediately. I wonder why that is. It'd be hard to argue that we are a major draw for these schools and they want to showcase us for their alumni. Maybe they look at our historically awful road record and decide that this is one team you don't need to have the true home-court advantgage to beat. Whatever the case I'm glad its us because 3-Star is right, a W against West Virginia could go a long way. I have it down as an L on my pre-season predictions.
  12. If you remember once Irons did quit as basketball coach to become prinicipal. This is maybe 7-8 years. His team was coming off a state final four (when isn't Vashon coming off a final four) and they started the season something awful like 4-8. He decided he wanted to coach again, took over the team and they immediately started winning again. Now their schedule may have gotten easier or whatever but to me that was his most impressive season. He proved to me that his coaching was a major reason for Vashon's success, and it wasn't necessarily the talent.
  13. I'm not going to go find any links to prove this but rather I'll simply use logic to prove that you are wrong. You have already shown that the Horizon had a better winning percentage then the A-10. But we all know the A-10 had a higher RPI then the Horizon. Therefore, it stands to reason that the A-10 MUST of played stronger teams because we all know the major components in the RPI are your winning percentage and the strength of your schedule. For a conference in general, it is nearly impossible to move the RPI once you start the conference season. That is because for every winner there must also be a loser and while one team may go up another will have to go down. Its kind of like a team playing itself. Thus, a conference's strong RPI has virtually nothing to do with its games among eachother. You may have a point about A-10 teams scheduling home and homes with the top 6 conferences and how that helps the RPI. The Horizon league cannot schedule such games. Which is EXACTLY why we prefer the A-10 over the Horizon. You have made our point. Thank you.
  14. but the simple answer is the the Horizon is playing MUCH easier non-conference teams then the Atlantic 10. If that wasn't the case the A-10 and Horizon would have similar RPIs which is not the case. A-10 teams play other major conferences in home and homes. The Horizon does not. This case is closed
  15. are 10 plus media people sitting in the stands just watching practice. I doubt it.
  16. that the local media is flocking to Billiken practices, despite the positive vibe around the team. It could have been anybody but I still surprised to see more then a couple bodies there considering there aren't that many even when the practices are open.
  17. Did anybody see the interview with Brad on the "Sports Final" show. It was a decent enough interview and as always Brad came off well but they showed the guys practicing and at one point the cameras showed the balconies of West Pine. To my surprise there were 10-15 people in the stands. I guess it isn't as "closed" as everyone assumes.
  18. I am far from a conservative when it comes to my political views and I'm all for women athletes but title IX is inherently unfair to schools that play football. A football program will have 70 male scholarship players and along with the 13 male basketball scholarship players they fund the entire athletic department. Yet, somehow schools are expected to find 70 scholarships for women in sports that men do not also play. It is impossible to do so and the natural result is schools drop mens sports teams like wrestling, hockey, soccer, etc. that do not bring in money. The intention of the law is fine but in my opinion title IX should apply to all sports except football. As for Maryland, clearly the four girls that are going to get scholarships from this are better off. I'd be willing to be Debbie's choice was to kill a non money making male sport or add a totally irrelevant female sport like the rifle team (does SLU still have a team). I see no problem with Maryland's decision.
  19. wondered why Lerxst doesn't post over here. He obviously reads this board daily and has quite a few opinions on the program. I guess he just doesn't have the gumption to do it.
  20. other people are bound to take note and use it for their purposes. Now generally I could giving a flying Muck about what the people at tigerboard have to say but this post just makes us look stupid. http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-...message=1016156 People that don't bother to come over to our board and read this post will assume that all we do is talk about Mizzou. Other then a snide comment here or there I'd say 95%+ of the material on this board for the past two months has been Mizzou less. So my whole point is, just know there are plenty of haters out there that will use anything you say to their advantage.
  21. I don't think I would call that negative recruiting. I would hope that if we are recruiting Lisch next year and if near the end of his recruitment some big name schools become interested if their top priorities go elsewhere that we would point out how long we have been recruiting him. Now sometimes that can backfire in a reverse phsychology sort of way. If school A has been recruitng you forever while school B decides that you are indeed good enough to deserve a scholarship, some people might opt for school B because it is perceived to be at a higher level. B-Roy, personally I think you use the term negative recruiting too often when discussing potential recruits. I'm sure that by your definitions many of the things SLU says could be constued as negative recruiting.
  22. Why would you call it negative recruiting? If Painter sells SIU on the basis of it having a superior engineering program then SLU and the opportunity to start that is not negative in my opinion. I'm sure Brad does the same thing when he is recruiting against SIU. He'll talk about the benefits of playing in the CUSA or A-10 and what a nice arena SLU plays in. A Saluki-Roy would call that negative recruiting.
  23. Brad's comment about signing one in the Spring may also have been him managing people's expecations so that if Shaw or Liddell didn't come he wouldn't look bad. If he says, "I think we'll sign two more this fall." and only gets one he looks bad. He looks good the other way around. I saw nothing in Shaw's comments that gave the edge to SIU over SLU.
