  1. He is one hell of a talent. this should be interesting. bad boyz for life
  2. Like Nolan Berry, Porter was the lead guy working Malcolm Hill as well. Will have to play catch-up there as well.
  3. will be tough to get Nolan without Porter. He was the point man and had a real good relationship with the family. Hopefully, SLU can stay in there. bad boyz for life
  4. Chievous was on campus this past weekend. whoever reported that was correct. word is that matt gordon will join porter at loyola, but alex and chris are staying. no word on who will fill the open spot on staff. promoting tony young to full time is a possibility. they just had one hell of a tournament on campus last weekend. I caught some of the games on Saturday, but I didn't get to see much of it. It was put on by the Spiece organization out of indiana. there was some great talent on campus. Hope a few of the kids took a look around. bad boyz for life
  5. of all of the bob knight disciples, Jim Crews is the closest thing to the General in personality. cringe. RM needs somebody that is his polar opposite in that spot, not a carbon copy.
  6. If we have a team next year that is talented enough for Mike McCall to play on 10 minutes a game next year, then we should be in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
  7. Having a RL or CE at the 4 next year with WR at the 5 gives us a big advantage with Evans at the 3. If you try to guard evans with a traditional quick 3, you just post him up because he's too strong for him. put a big on him, and he's too quick. RL or CE can really stretch the defense with their shooting ability, allowing Evans more room to operate. It will be fun to watch. In the A-10, having athletic combo forwards is a good thing. Rhody was pretty good with guys like ulmer and cochran. Athletic guys who play hard and make plays wherever you put them on the floor. That is what DE is. bad boyz for life
  8. didn't mean to put B. Roy on blast like that. Just wanted to share some information about North's program, which has been on a pretty good run for the past five or six years. football has been their main sport for many years, but basketball really has taken center stage as of late. granger is a long 6'8" with good skill level. He is more comfortable facing the basket, but he is a power forward. He can really shoot it from mid-range and he can shoot the turnaround. He needs more weight and strength and I imagine that would happen as he gets older and his body matures. It would be nice to see him at SLU.
  9. I have a daughter who attends Hazelwood Central High, two nieces that attend McCluer and another niece who goes to McCluer North. With that being said, I've grown quite familiar with the Suburban North Conference, especially in football and basketball. I've had a chance to see a lot of McCluer North games this year. B. Roy's assertion that McCluer North would be hard pressed to finish third in the Southwestern Conference is out of left field. I just thought I would set the record straight. As Paul Harvey would say, This is the rest of hte story. McCluer North has played five games against Southwestern Conference teams this year. Belleville West 60-48 win O'Fallon 62-58 win (Centralia Tournament championship) Belleville East 76-54 win (a blowout on East's home court) Collinsville 52-47 win Belleville West 67-57 loss According to my math, that's a 4-1 record against the cream of the crop of the SWC, with the exception of East St. Louis. East Side is pretty good, but they an open court game and do not guard anybody. In an open court game against North, they would be hard-pressed to hold B.J. under 50 points. I'm confident they could just squeeze by Granite City and Alton, too. And all five games have been played on the Illinois side of the river with Illinois officials in hostile territory. They are basically playing all road games. I don't know Randy Reed that well, but I have always been impressed with his willingness to go out and play anybody, anywhere. I know he has reached out to those Illinois schools to come over to NOrth County and play them at home, but so far, nobody will step up and take him up on it. So far, it's a one-way street. I read in the Belleville news democrat that they are going to the Collinsville Tournament next year. He doesn't care. Last year, they went to Belleville East with a rebuilding team and lost three games, but it made them better. Maybe, one day, one of the SWC schools will venture across the water and play him on his home court. I doubt it. and by the way, a few years back, Mc North beat Peoria (with D.J. Richardson) and Oak Lawn Richards to win the Carbondale Tournament. Oak Lawn Richards went on to win the Class 4A state championship that same year. Once again, they beat Illinois teams in Illinois. I'm not saying that McCluer North is god's gift to high school basketball, but that is an impressive run of success against quality teams in Illinois on their own turf. Maybe one year, O'Fallon, BE or BW should schedule McCluer North, Hazelwood central, McCluer, throw in Chamiande, DeSmet and Webster Groves. And play every game on the road. Let's see how that would shake out. Just want to set the record straight.
  10. I added those two names (Shaw and Tatum) because they really, really wanted to come to SLU. So did Kent Williams from Mt. Vernon. The local kids I referred to were Darren Brooks, Stetson Hairston, Randal Falker, Mike Dale (a bit of a knucklehead), Josh Warren. The got a lot of bling in C-dale.
  11. a whole group of kids from st. louis went to carbondale and made the salukis a powerhouse program for about six years. I can recall a couple of sweet 16s and a whole mess of valley titles. you can add tatum and shaw in that group as well. bad boyz for life
  12. Earl Austin had a great report on last night's game on his website (earlaustinjr.com). He called the victory, "Bully Beatdown" Billikens style. I felt the same way that he did. They played like a bunch of goons out there and they got away with it for most of the game. Once we took the fight to them, they couldn't handle it. A great win. Dwayne Evans, Jordair Jett, Kyle Cassity, Mike McCall Bad boyz for life
  13. It's even better when you consider that two former SLU players are now playing for Indiana.
  14. The sooner that you get the thought that Rob is not an Ian Voyoukas like post man, the better off we will all be. He is a shooter. Hopefully, he will give us the occasional low-post move or offensive rebound, but his game is facing the basket. ON that final drive, he beat his man baseline, but just lost control of the ball. He is a different kind of center than we're used to seeing. bad boyz for life
  15. Unfortunately, SLU72 might have hit on something else here. I'd hate to be a SLU coach who is trying to recruit top black basketball players in the future to the school after this all goes down. Not saying this is right or wrong, but I'm living in the real world. Just keepin' it real. The little girl in the clip even mentioned she wasn't sure if SLU was equipped to handle such a situation. I think we are about to find out. bad boyz for life
  16. Germans? Forget about it. He's rolling.
  17. If people think that the young man in question who has gone in front of this board is the first SLU basketball player to have a transgression while in school, we are being quite naive. I'm for above board standards for our players as well, but let's not act like this the first player who has gone sideways and it first happened under RM. RG, CS, LR and BS have had to deal with a knucklehead or two during their tenure here. In this case, whatever happen will happen. bad boyz for life
  18. Not trying to defend RM about how he deals with players and off-court issues. Just saying that I've never seen such a scenario at any college. Could you imagine a student board at the University of Florida. They would never be out of session because they would be throwing players out left and right. Just a mention of "lack on institutional control" and SLU basketball in the same breath would be a leap of enormous proportions, considering what we've seen with programs around the country. My only point was that I've never heard of such a board that has that kind of power in all of the years that i have been following college sports. Never even seen it mentioned in the news. could you imagine a "student board" trying to kick out an indiana player when "The General" was in charge. That would be entertaining television, to say the least.
  19. I must admit, I've never heard of such a scenario taking place with an on-campus board being able to potentially expel a student-athlete. It may happen at other places, but I've never seen anything like this. To lose a key player before the season under such circumstances. Well, that's a good way to lose a coach. Should be interesting to see how this all shakes out, all the way through. bad boyz for life
  20. the key to RM's success is that if/when he goes after a top local kid, he doesn't let the kid string him along like Brad used to. He already has quality back-up plans in place. He doesn't sleep on other quality players, therefore, he isn't left holding the bag at the end of the day and forced to fill up his roster with a bunch of suspects that cannot play at this level. Plus, he is good at identifying and developing players. They went after Biedscheid hard, but there is a kid in Wisconsin in the same grade who they are tracking pretty good as well (forget the name, but he is pretty good). Plus, you have Jake Barnett for the next three years. bad boyz for life
  21. this young man was at Notre Dame over the weekend. Boo. Hiss.
  22. sounds like that rule is one the same page as the "Tuck Rule." Just think, if we didn't have the tuck rule, the Rams would have been playing Oakland or Pittsburgh in the Super Bowl instead of the Belicheats. Changed the course of history. bad boyz for life
  23. On Earl's website, he printed the schedule, but also gave a little summary of all of the teams that the Bills are playing. It's got me ready for the season.
  24. She must be pretty good. Earl Austin Jr. seems to be really high on her. He's got a nice write-up about her on his website.
