  1. So did you just make an argument for why a guy like Shertz(?) would come here?
  2. Yes there are pro sport athletes who do not manage their money well but I would not compare a basketball coach to them. The coach has had to work his way up so he has a bit more experience in life to not make those kinds of mistakes. Yes millionaires go broke - happens all the time with lottery winners but once again a person winning the lottery may not have had the opportunity to learn better habits. Ford was smart enough to downsize a couple of years ago as his family got smaller so he has shown a certain about of financial acumen or at least he is smart enough to have someone advising him and he listened. If he has been living paycheck to paycheck then he is not the kind of man I want as our head coach or leading young men - we need someone who is smarter than that. As far as respecting him in tough times - tough times are relative. Him losing his 2.5 million a year job is hardly a tough break especially since he has been earning well for many years. If he spent it all then this is his fault not ours. I once told someone that they are getting well paid but they will take every penny out of your hide - he later told me I was right. Nobody pays very well without expectations so Ford got the money and he did not meet expectations so it is hardly a tough break.
  3. The guy has made multi millions so unless he just spent like a drunken sailor don't worry about him - he will be fine.
  4. Of course, a coach can use any potential offer as leverage for a salary raise.
  5. Honestly I never thought they would fly from there. A bus trip seemed reasonable to me.
  6. Portapotties are usually on a contract with the company who owns them and they are suppose to service them. Not sure what the contract calls for.
  7. If true, I agree it does make sense - actually I would do it now. I wonder if they already have had conversations with a potential coach and they want to beat others to the punch. They may want to be able to go as soon as that guy is done with his tourney and not get caught in the coach rush.
  8. The Sabbath is for miracles
  9. Well they already are in the State of NY so why come home for 2 days. Take a bus from StB to NYCity.
  10. If May turned the money down last year to keep Ford then he is not in position to do it again if he wants to keep his job. If the money as Tilly says is there then May will have no choice but to dump Ford as the only means to keep his job.
  11. Getting caught up in a scandal is like flaming out in my mind. Wgstl gave a good reasoning argument.
  12. I am just trying to understand why some think Mack would be a good hire. Didn't he flame out at Louisville? I know he was successful at X. Just wondering what people are thinking.
  13. If tonight's game plan is what Ford has planned for his big plan for next year then I am not interested.
  14. Ok - I respect your situation.
  15. No it is not - can you cite examples of this?
  16. I am not doubting you per se but how do you know that he has sources?
  17. Given we really don't know what his buy out amount is it is hard to know how to factor that into a decision. Maybe they gave him a big salary in exchange for a reasonable buy out who knows. Of course Ford doesn't want to get fired - who does? Him saying he has really only had one bad year shows how delusional he is - every year he did not get an NIT bid or a dance invite is a bad year and I know there has to be at least 3 of those ( I open to being corrected) and I would throw in the year that he had a number one seed in the NIT and got bounced in the first round as a bad year - that was a NCAA team and he coached down the drain. If SLU keeps him they will have a major problem on their hands - once us old guys drop our season tix we aren't coming back and we make up a big portion of that group.
  18. 18 wins doesn't get you much of anything. Are we going to get more than an automatic bid? 50/50. If you are in a P5 conference, then 18 wins will make you a bubble team not necessarily in the A10 anymore.
  19. When he says he now understands how to use the portal and NIL and that he now has a plan then I want to know if he is willing to give a substantial part of his salary back given he didn't have a plan nor bothered to learn how to use the portal and NIL effectively. When I was working, I was expected to be ahead of the game and not be sitting back and waiting. You get caught with your pants down then you have to pay for it.
  20. If she is May's girl then she may only be given a temporary key as a place holder to be replaced a year later when the new person gets his/her feet wet.
  21. Actually, the snow cover is not a bad thing. It is protecting the grass by insulating it from the bitter cold we had and when it melts it will be good water for the warm weather that is coming next week and stimulate the rooting system. The key to stay off it until it has chance to root.
  22. I think NM is a great place and so staying there is not a bad deal in my eyes but I also see if he were to come to SLU and wins that would be a great steppingstone for getting the SJU job. After all, his dad came from Iona to SJU kind of a similar deal. I would only caution a child that following their successful father may not be a good deal - see Georgetown and UNLV
