Are they improving? I see the same stuff from last year. The same cartoonish logo, the same uninspired half assed attempts at "fund raising". The lack of responsiveness, the lack of visibility. The only thing that's new is the website.

The website before had no info or method to donate.  Now it does that's improvement.

The event last year had basically no notice.

When you want people to give you money, at least have the decency to acknowledge you have received their RSVP to what you are billing as a private event.  That type of thing should be automatic.

Yeah they should have set up a system to receive RSVPs and count people.  I use Evite for parties. But they didn't.

I went to the site. I donated. I got an email with the information to attend.

I would personally attend if I were in STL. Even without a confirmation email.

Progress is being made. The Coach is going to talk about NIL strategy something we've been clamoring for over a year.

I've been very critical in the past but I don't want that criticism to anchor me to a position that I can't recognize improvement.  There's still more improvement that can be achieved but I don't expect it to be instantaneous.

This is the problem. It should have dedicated employees, and it does not. They are winging it.

Yeah but they're improving. Baby steps, improvement doesn't go from ineffective to completely functional organization quickly.  Perhaps if they get enough donations they can hire a full time person but employees are expensive. What's the cheapest full time person they could hire?  $50k/year? Maybe. How good is someone making that much money?

A little disheartening as my father has been a season ticketholder for over 30 years and I have been going with him since I was a young one.

Did you get BVF email? That's an invitation. If not the X post is an invitation to Donors/ticket Holders. So as I read it you can go just send RSVP email with headcount.

I wouldn't be disheartened, send your email and go.

It appears to me Billikenbooster and Young Charles have tried to RSVP and has received no confirmation back.  The X post makes it clear that it is a private event.  I assume they don't want to show up and be turned away.

Private in that you must be a season ticket holder or donor.

Yeah it'd be great to get an email back but if they got the initial email they are invited to the private event.

Also the event was publicized on X to get more attendees seems like they'll be alright.

I don't think we can expect perfection from what's essentially a volunteer organization. The new website and this event are good steps.

The invitation said season ticket holders and BVF donors.
This thing has been a PR nightmare from the beginning.

i don’t tweet or social media. This board is basically my window to the Bill’s fan community.

Very frustrating. I was going to bring my checkbook.

    Im done

    What's a PR nightmare?

Did you get an email or just see the X post on the message board?

I don't use X (Twitter) either but my understanding from that X post (in this thread) and the email, it gives me the 5Ws.  If you want to go send a RSVP to the email address given then go.

    Who: Donors/Season Tix holders

What: BVF event with Coach Schertz

    When: 16 April 5-6:30PM

    Where: MAC West

Why: Coach will outline vision for SLU and NIL

    RSVP to [email protected]

    Seems Straightforward to me.

They don't have the event listed on the BVF website or any posts about on their Instagram account either.  So if you aren't on X and following their X account, you don't know this event is happening.  I guess that doesn't matter if they are not getting back to people about how to attend.

If BVF was a real business, it would have went bankrupt because of incompetency.

It does look like they are getting ready to role out a tier membership program, finally, that gets you different stuff depending on the donation.  Hopefully when it goes live it will have a recurring donation option to encourage more people to join the different tiers by spreading out the payments.  That would ultimately raise a lot more money.  You can't get to it through the website yet, but you can see what it looks like now by clicking this direct link:

    https://billikenvictoryfund.com/store-w%2Ffans/ols/products

I got a direct email regarding the event asking for RSVP.  Perhaps there was a minimum donation necessary.

It was my first time donating. I donated the day Schertz was hired.

So they got back to me.

  6. Also the recruiting is making connections. If we didn't sign the player and they go elsewhere but later transfer you've already made a connection for a possible transfer.

When you see a athlete hit the portal I always look at where they're from and who recruited them before.  Seems that many go back home or to a school/coach hat had previous relationship.

But I'd need to validate that assumption

Could not find exact states but Pikaar was averaging a double-double while shooting 40% from 3 on Sunrise post-grad team, which was ranked #2...

That other player on the box score Mahki Myles, decommitted from Wichita St and looks like went to Miss St.  Was 6A Mr Basketball in MS.  So that's a good team.

    There are no positions.

Mostly it's position-less but when bringing the ball up the floor vs the press, I think we need someone with the ball handling skills/passing of a traditional PG.

It could be a "SG" with above avg ball handling and good passing.

When you're in the half court set it's positionless

So less necessity for a traditional PG as long as everyone is a good passer

I really feel like Texas is going to find out these are good players.  But in the wrong system they’ll be average to better than average and that’s about it.   Good luck to them and I hope they made a ton of money.

Rodney Terry is a likeable dude and he got to the Elite 8 in his interim year and was awarded the job.  He's never won significantly at any other HC stop, sound familiar? I've been worried he's Texas Crews since he was hired.  Many Texas fans question his coaching.  They were just so inconsistent last season.

I can't tell yet if Terry has a coherent offensive system and defensive scheme.  These guys might not perform optimally like in Schertz's system.  It's really hard to beat Texas when they get someone on campus for a visit.

If the majority of the team came over then I was thinking NCAA bid.  With a lot of new pieces that's less certain. But I'm hopeful, Schertz had 8 new players last season and they gelled on offense.

  10. Too bad about Kent.  Texas also signed Tramon Mark from Arky who seems like a similar player maybe Kent is more of a SF and Mark a SG.

Good sign that Larry didn't also commit, but I think Texas is holding out for Pope from OSU.

So if one of the other Texas schools like SMU doesn't make a play maybe SLU can get Larry on campus.  We need PGs.

    Youngblood to bama.

    https://247sports.com/college/texas/board/21/Contents/heres-a-look-at-the-trio-of-midmajor-standouts-that-texas-mbb-are-set-to-host-this-weekend-230374069/?page=1

Reading this article/thread Texas is continuing to mine the portal now that Youngblood is out. Pope from Oregon State is probably the top PG priority.  Larry might be the fallback option.  As for Kent, Texas has the #2  SG incoming Tre Johnson and Chendall Weaver played a lot at the end of the year so I'm not sure how much PT is there even with Max Abmas gone.

So one of our biggest positions of need PG, is also a need for Texas.

  12. Max Pikaar iss listed as 6'11, 200lbs and his only P5 offer is Penn St. Other offers include ISU, St. Bonaventure, Idaho State, Middle Tennessee State, and Sam Houston State. From Wichita, KS.

247Sports has no ratings, Verbal Commits has him as 4 star 3.71 rating.

Dutch kid so I'm sure he's very nice and rides a bike.

I guess this means to Nitu. Similar players to fit the system. Seems like Schertz has a plan.

Swope isn't really a PG either, so if we land him it still applies.

I think there's some positionless basketball amongst guards in the system once you get into the half court. But if you get pressed you need a guy with those ball handling skills sometimes.

  14. 5 minutes ago, brianstl said:

The fact that they had Pikaar in for a visit makes me think that Nitu is less than certain

Or that the new staff is smart and working contingencies.

Also pressure from scarcity is a big driver for human decision making. If you think a spot will be open for you with no pressure to decide you can take your time. If you think it could be filled if you find decide you might decide quicker and it makes that position look more desirable.

I’d say Larry is not likely as he’s been speculated to be looking back home in Texas.  And Conwell seems to be a coin flip if he follows Schertz.  I’d say Avila, Swope, and Kent will be the starters likely to come to SLU.  I’m sure there will be many other portal pieces and recruits incoming.

Horns 247 board admin responded to me about Avila. Doesn't appear that he's visiting Texas. Kent and Larry are visiting together. Maybe Avila's traveling with them to get some Torchy's tacos and queso.

We'll know more probably Monday, it could make that Coach BVF appearance on Tuesday interesting.

Pretty strong endorsement from Pitino for his former captain.

I think Pope is a good coach and was really impressed with BYU this year.  This might help avoid property damage in Lexington.  Good endorsement, crazy hire, I didn't see coming.  He enters with a lot of pressure and no slack.

  17. What was the $ amount mentioned for Jimmerson this year like $250k?  The cost to bring him back rises and most of these other ISU players are probably a little less than that mark.

Schertz only played 7 guys significant minutes.

Wild speculation below on NIL amounts:

    $300k GJ

    $300k Avila

    $300k Conwell

    $200k Larry

    $200k Kent

    $150k Swope

    $100k Thames

That's $1.55mil not counting incoming freshman, Hughes and other transfers.

"Outside of a top 10 high school kid who is one-and-done, you're spending all of your dollars on the portal," Belzer said. "We saw that a top-40 kid last year was going for at least $300,000-$350,000. That number is now moving up. There are going to be many athletes that are making $400,000-$500,000 going into next year."
