  1. won't be in this tournament. They play for Vashon and Borgia respectively. Vashon usually plays East St. Louis in late December/early January if you want to check out Polk and Liddell at the same time. Arthur Sargent, a junior Roy has been touting, will be at the Shootout since he plays for Belleville West. Another player to watch out for is 6-1 sophomore shooting guard Justin Taylor who plays for Webster Groves.
  2. I don't think Gordon did any research either. Rhode Island is a glitzy program? Yeah, maybe when Lamar Odom played there five years ago.
  3. Hey, I'm not a rocket scientist or anything but I thought a 5th place finish in 2002 and a 4th place finish in 2003 was a little better than middle of the pack.
  4. I'm telling ya guys, our upcoming game is not a gimme for the Yellowjackets. I know our frontcourt is unproven for the most part, but so is theirs. http://ramblinwreck.ocsn.com/sports/m-bask.../101403aaa.html "With the loss of Chris Bosh to the NBA and Ed Nelson to a transfer, the bulk of the rebounding work falls to the 7-1 junior Schenscher (3.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg) and the 6-9 sophomore Tarver (2.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg), along with 6-8 senior Robert Brooks (0.7 ppg, 1.1 rpg)."
  5. I'll go out on a limb and say that Izik will average 5 rpg because he'll still be playing under the boards on defense. He averaged 3.2 rpg last year in 15 mpg and only 1 rpg was on the offensive boards.
  6. Why are you trying to do an assessment based on one data point?
  7. I think it's even simpler than that. JJ is fundamentally unsound. He turns the ball over a lot when he puts the ball on the floor and he has poor shot selection. Those things can be corrected. I've never questioned his heart in practice.
  8. Bryant played 24 min a game for Villanova his sophomore season and had only 42 turnovers in 31 games. This is a non-issue in my mind.
  9. Good points. Some of you guys might want to take a look at the nonconference schedule again before worrying so much about our lack of size. The only teams we play in the first 11 games with a significant size advantage in the post are Arizona and Dayton, which we won't be favored to win anyway. Pittsnogle from West Virginia plays like a wing player.
  10. Georgia Tech is athletic but they don't have a formidable front. Chris Bosh is in the NBA and Big Ed Nelson transferred to UConn. As for Cinci, Robert Whaley spends way to much time jacking up shots from the perimeter.
  11. For a guy that was playing on a sprained ankle and sprained his other ankle in the game last night, he kept on coming. Brad mentioned the two injuries on Frank's show this morning. With some rest, the Big Fella oughtta be fine.
  12. Brad called. He said he wants you to suit up tomorrow.
  13. Still thy tongue! You'll bring down the wrath of the Woof Gods!
  14. In fairness to SMS, they are expected be a top 4 team in the MVC with Monwell Randle and Tamar Maclin holding down the frontcourt and another highly touted juco guard manning the point. It should be a good game.
  15. http://valleytalk.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=3931 "Home-and-home with San Diego. A good team, but not a great one. I think SMS should win both. At UMKC. Trap game if there's ever been one. Lots of talent here, but I don't think the Bears could be fooled again after a certain upset. Win. SLU. No problem. Win."
  16. "There are very few teams (Marquette maybe being one and sometimes Cinci) that play as good defensively as we do. Add in the fact that these guys all know eachother and their tendencies and weaknesses and its a miracle our offense ever scores in scrimmages." Excellent points. If WE can't score on us, it's going to be hard for anybody else to do so. That being said, how is Clarke getting open for these three point looks? Does he move pretty well without the ball?
  17. Hope our guys are ready. Last year we only won by 8 points and three years ago AIA beat the Jeffers/Tatum/Baniak Bills 70-66.
  18. You can't stop the Albanian Sensation, you can only hope to contain him.
  19. I think it's hilarious how some of us try to make projections based on an hour of observation. C'mon guys, it's just one practice! I wouldn't be confident in projections based on three games, let alone one practice. Shouldn't Reggie Bryant's scoring success in the Big East be a better gauge for his potential contribution than a 15 minute scrimmage? Also, Ross Varner has been an impressive practice player for a couple of years now. That hasn't meant much in actual games.
  20. "my comments were wrong to make. my comments were in response to people posting comments about how good all three would be immediately and how all three were upgrades to kenny brown." Roy, maybe my memory is faulty but I don't remember any of the regulars saying that Husak would be good immediately or that he would be an upgrade to Kenny Brown. The board consensus has been "project" ever since he verballed -- an intriguing project but a project nonetheless.
  21. Fish 9 ppg Bryant 14 ppg Ohanon 11 ppg Sloan 9 ppg Frericks 7 ppg Drejaj 8 ppg Clarke 4 ppg Vouyoukas 4 ppg JJ 2 ppg Varner 2 ppg Total 70 ppg I think Varner and JJ will fight it out for most of the season for that 9th spot in the rotation. JJ is athletic but he can't really get his own shot. He'll be more effective in the coming years once he learns to either a) take his man off the dribble or score with his back to basket. This year he'll probably be limited to putbacks and finishing after the guards penetrate and draw his defender.
  22. It looks like our former point guard Randy Pulley is still overpenetrating. Hope he finds his niche with the Tigers. http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-...message=1048052 "But it's said that Pulley can shoot OK from close in. He did manage to drive inside twice, but he got stuffed twice."
  23. Roy I'm going to be laughing about that 3-sided jab the rest of the morning. That West Virginia game is going to be key. If our guys can get the best of them like they did at Savvis, the Billikens stand a very good chance of being 4-0 after the first four games. That would be a nice confidence boost to start off the season.
