  1. Sloan will be starting and get heavy minutes. IO will be the top player on the team this year. He can do it all on the offensive end, pass, penetrate, shoot from the outside, finish on the drive and he has a bevy of post moves and knows how to use them. I think a few games into the season Brad will just let Izik roll with it and we will go from there. Izik I guarantee will score 15 a game with 5 or 6 boards and 3 or 4 assists.
  2. Brown was a good athlete for a college big man. He could run the floor and was strong. He couldn't jump outta the gym but not many guys can who are 6'9 265 and they don't have to. I think he lacked basketball skills, footwork and shooting are not athletic abilities per se, you have to work at basketball to get good at those things, he just didn't have the agility and the ability to be a good offensive player. Kenny is being slightly overrated I believe. He was good at clutch and grab in the post, strong and not afraid to mix it up. He really was not a good rebounder, he was usually out of position. He was not an extraordinary CUSA big man and can be replaced. If frericks is willing to mix it up like Kenny does, then he will be a much better player.
  3. Who ranked Darren Clarke in the top 100? I have seen from the high 100s to well into the 200s. I don't really put much stock in the rankings but just interested to see who thought of him so highly.
  4. Yes I beleive so, but I don't think we would stop it until it was completely destroyed. The large conferences will continue with their policies to an extent where they will destroy the landscape of college sports simply because they believe anything they do will make money and people will pay for whatever they bring to the table. This will most certainly not be the case, but they will only figure it out after they have made themselves completely irrevelant.
  5. I just saw in a publication called St. Louis magazine a nice article on Billiken football. It had interviews with several old players if anyone is interested. I don't know if it is the current issue or last months though.
  6. I don't see much stopping this from happening. The idea that people will want to watch the "baylors" get hot is ridiculous. Eventually the Baylors of the world will get shut out since they also bring "nothing" to the table. In the end we will be left with Duke, Kansas, North Carolina having thier own little playoff. It is sad that these people see butler and SIUC as teh enemies, when they should be working harder to upgrade their programs to beat these little guys instead of saying they don't deserve to be included, if they didn't deserve they wouldn't be winning would they? I believe if this came to play college sports would quickly become minor league. The nba must be salivating over this, they would pounce on the fans who are left out and they would end up shutting out the major colleges, making them no more than a double A farm team for them. It would be poetic justice. College BBall would become just as viable as college baseball.
  7. I hear the Quin interview live on the radio and percieved no slight to any player. All Quin said was that Mizzou had not been able to pick any "big time" recruits ie MCD's all americans. Kleiza happened to be a MCD AA, the only other one Quin has signed was Travon. I felt if anything Quin made a self deprecating remark, saying he had struck out on some "big time" guys like Lee, Famitumi etc. Immediately after the interview Demetrius Johnson called in and blasted Quin on the air saying he had disrespected not only McKinney, but Paulding, Johnson, and asst Tony Harvey. I thought what he was saying was ridiculous and Frank and even Tim Mckernan thought it was too. Obviously Johnson got to McKinney on the subject. If McKinney is whining about this my view on him has completely changed. If he is such a baby maybe he doesn't belong in a tiger uniform, if McKinney did leave I certainly would not want his me-first attitude in a billiken uniform.
  8. Meyer is not exceptionally fast or slow, neither a gerat leaper or a poor one. He has a bigger body than most college 2s and 3s, and in games I have seen him in he is not afraid of contact underneath. He is a great shooter. HIs one failing weakness is super slow release. EarlAusitn has said and I concur that at the college level most of meyers shots are going to end up in the stands. To me unless he ahs signifigantly improved this from last season he is not a viable recruit. But hey if stanford wants him, we might as well go after him as well, the Cardinal do not win Pac-10 titles by recruiting bad players.
  9. Hmmmmm, will his production magically go down now? Plus who corks their bat in Wrigley Field? Guys hit broken bat hrs there. I could see maybe corking at Busch or something, but Wrigley is a bandbox, anybody can hit a homer there.
  10. Yes, Liddell will be a senior in August. Most kids take the ACT or SAT starting in their junior year though. At least he has a while and several possible attempts left to pass.
  11. Thanks thicks Thicks said: "torch, you are No. 5. I move into sixth place by myself with this post. I used to be third, but during the season I was busy working two jobs, and people passed me. Or should I say I used to have a life?" Or you could say people posting several hundred times on this board don't have lives, myself included. At least I am not as bad as Roy though ;-)
  12. Do you have a list of top posters? and thanks for your help with my problems accesing the site.
  13. This is a good sign. If pitino is out saying that CUSA is god awful it most likely means L'ville will be out soon ans CUSA will be no more. I don't think he would risk pissing off any CUSA mambers or admin if he wasn't positive they would not be a part of it much longer.
  14. Who thinks too wants us to stay in the crappy CUSA because he knows the new CATHOLIC conference would be powerful enough to compete and win against the other power conferences namely the Big 12? Too is deathly afraid that the new conference will put SLU on equal footing with his tigers.
  15. ????????????????????? No one has named the league yet, it does not exist. Do you really think they will name it the catholic and everyone not in it is going to hell league? I don't think so. In every city in america there are HS conferences based on religious affiliations. Is everyone in an uproar because catholic hs are in their own conference? I don't see people clamoring to let Haz Central or Parkway North into the Archdioscean league. C'mon Too this argument has no merit. I would really like to see you address why Randy Pulley is the second coming of Bob Cousy in a tiger uniform but as a billiken you claimed he could not get a starting spot at UMSL?
  16. They are both in the U-19 international championships. Linus is playing for Lithuania and Ian is on Greece's team. Hope to read reports of Ian dunking on Linus in the next few weeks.
  17. THrus day the 29th and no sign of SLU in Grimes list. Of course the accuracy of this report can be questioned because they list Grimes at 6'9!!!!!!!!!! Platform shoes and standing on his tip toes maybe.
  18. I saw Linus in the HS all star game a couple days ago on espn. He looked pretty good. I will look forward to watching Izik run circles around him when we play the the tigers in 04-05.
  19. I think Clarke can fill a role for this team, but we have tons of depth at guard, he will probably be the fifth guard in the game. He is definetly more long term. For right now I hpoe he plays solid defense and can fill in for the nova transfer when he needs a rest and put up similar numbers in much smaller minutes.
  20. not surprising. Cuonzo Martin with Purdue is going to be tough to beat in getting east side talent.
  21. I could see Aaron Jackson stepping up and becoming the top 3 behind Liddell next year. There is really no sizeable guys besides Shaw and Grimes in next years class (Muse from Vashon also but he will not get recruited). I would really like to see shaw get a hard look from SLU but we do have a lot of big men on the team, maybe we are set or Brad has other options.
  22. I will go with Fischer, Bryant, Izik, Sloan and Frericks.
