  1. I think butter is the same guy who showed up after the RFT article hyping Blake's game. The fact is that our coach had a chance to sign Ahearn and let him go. I respect his bball knowledge over mine. That said I thought Blake was a marginal D-1 player, a diener or troy robertson type guy that SLU doesn't need and cannot recruit anymore to be successful at a top level. Why does SLU always have to take on the area charity cases? I hope Butter that you are on the Mizzou, Illini, SIU-C boards saying the same thing as you are doing here. No other area programs get critisized for not looking at this kid. Why does SLU? Ahearn has shown his true colors, he had stories planted in the post and RFT ripping on SLU. That is not the type of player we need no matter how talented.
  2. Ahearn wanted to come to SLU there is no doubt about that, Romar was recruiting him and was ready to offer and Ahearn would have signed on the spot. When Brad took over he stopped Blake's recruitment and that pissed of Blake mightily. Once again Blake and his handlers planted stories for Bernie, PD, and RFT going off on SLU. Ahearn is a great shooter. He cannot play any defense and Brad will not take that type of player under any circumstance. I have no regrets on not taking him as a bball player or as a person seeing how he waged a campaign against SLU after he was rebuffed by Coach Brad.
  3. Lets face it I didn't exactly see LeBron James playing there. The highest rated player was Gardner nad he was lucky to break the top 50 in most lists.
  4. We have AJ being the voice of reason and hoping for the best from the billikens while Roy is about ready to fire Soderberg for bringing in a 7 foot project. I never thought I would see something like this.
  5. Husak is a PROJECT. We all know that. He will be redshirted. Lets put this in perspective though. Look at KB. I have seen elephants at the circus with more agility and better footwork than KB had coming out of HS. The guy worked hard, had good coaching and was a credible D-1 center by the time his career was over. I expect the same of Husak. We will not need any type of minutes from him for two years. We have plenty of time to mold thei 7 footer into a good player. Now Ahearn and Clarke. Why are we already lamenting the loss of Ahearn? So he puts up 40 in a 100 point all-star game. Big deal. We all know the reasons Brad did not take him. He plays defense as well as a potted plant, and is not much faster than the aforementioned potted plant. Clarke may not be as good of a shooter, but already we see that he has superior ballhandling and passing skills. Ahearn wanted to come here, he was po'ed that we didn't give him a scholarship, so much that he instigated a media backlash against SLU, how quickly we are forgetting the RFT articles and Bernie spewings of a few months ago. My opinion, SLU will be in a state of the art arena, in a high profile catholic conference, making NCAA tourney appearances annually with help from a 2 guard from Minnesota and a shotblocking big man from Iowa, while Blake and the bears will be playing for fourth place in the Mo Valley.
  6. I wouldn't waste my time on the tigerboard. Even tiger fans find their rants irrelevant.
  7. Would a guy come up all the way from Texas to coach a low level HS all-star game? Has anyone considered that this guy could've been related to Onion Horton? Only other Horton I know of who could possibly get tabbed as coach.
  8. On another board you use your first and last name as your username. I think you are just asking for people to call you by your name. Anyway most other people including myself have our names on uor profile, you can call me by my name if you wish.
  9. Not surprised that Husak did not do much. I would expect his strongpoints right now to be blocking shots and post game, and you will see neither of those in a HS all star game. From observations it appears Clarke will be able to help us athletically and with his passing ability. Shooting poorly at this thing does not concern me. He will have to be real good to play over 10 minutes a game this year though. I have seen Blake play dozens of times in HS games and have actually played ball with and against him. He can shoot, but other than that I don't see what he brings besides a fiery attitude. Against Mo Valley defenses he will be hard pressed to be any kind of ballhandler. I could be wrong but he just never impressed me.
  10. Also a DSL user and have a had a few problems with their tech help, but overall the service has been good. For pop up ads blocking search for pop up ad filter. I have used it for more than a year. It is excellent, I never get pop up ads. It is free and will block 30 ads until you have to uninstall and then reinstall it, the proces takes less than a minute.
  11. Anyone know who the kid named Glass is? He lists his hometown as St. Louis, and he is going to Ole Miss. I have never heard of him or don't remember. Curtis Marshall was ranked high. He is playing for Bobby Knight at Texas Tech and is from McCluer North HS in Florissant. In a response to the rankings a poster asks why Joel Shelton isn't in the top 100.
  12. I have always heard from Louisville people that they have some sort of disdain for the ACC, and the ACC has no love for them, similar to how Memphis and the SEC although they seem a good fit they hate each other. Louisville is a good choice though. They have a legit football program, much better than what virginia, duke or NC have. And of course their basketball is top notch. I don't think Coach K would like to be in the same league with Pitino though.
  13. The tigers are screwed in this arrangement. No way the SEC will take them. Big East does not want them. They are now sitting with the basically the national division by itself, which was the arrangement they depsarately wanted out of. Plus no doubt CUSA will expand taking in more football programs that have crappy basketball teams like Marshall. Memphis may be better off joining the mountain west or something.
  14. Is it now inevitable that Louisville and /or Cincy, South Florida and Marquette are going to the big east? It is good to hear that the CUSA is being proactive, just in case we do get stuck in that league. If they do want to add say Pitt, WV and Uconn some of the southern schools will have to go. How long do you think the process will take now? WIll we know if we are in a new conference by the start of the season?
  15. Roland gets Hancock and Erwin takes over at McCluer. Claggs coaching at McCluer makes me rethink my hatred of the comets, being a McCluer North grad. That is not easy to do. I look forward to Claggs and Randy Reed fighting for sub north championships for many years to come and then sending their great players to SLU.
  16. I think drejaj will be one of those special high energy clutch players who can come up big in big games. There are not much bigger than SLU-Mizzou.
  17. IF Cincy, or L'ville leave there will be no reason for the other football schools to stay with us, much less add schools to the conference that don't play bball. Mamphis and UAB will not stick around and watch their football programs flounder in some mid major conference. SLU will have to align themselves with bball schools or just go to a mid major conference. A fragemented CUSA will not work.
  18. Acc is now considering only adding Miami. L'Ville and Cincy are the only teams with a chacne to go IMO. Memphis is going nowhere, the big east wants nothing to do with them. I would love to see CUSA regroup. Lose L'ville, pick up Dayton, Xavier and lose a couple of the bottom feeders like Tulane, Houston, TCU etc and we may have a better conference than we had with L'Ville.
  19. I would rather align ourselves with the mid-american conference or maybe mo valley. Would the mo valley look as bad if they added us and depaul and dropped some of their really bad teams? This would be a fair conference SLU DePaul Butler Creighton Bradley Valpo Detroit Loyola Chi Charlotte
  20. the football makes sense but nothing else does.
  21. He may conver national basketball stories, and he gets shifted over to baseball reporting.
  22. Neuheisel was not just let go because of the gambling thing. It was a convenient excuse to get him canned and a way to probably let him go for less money since he broke ncaa rules. Wash was not happy with him, he had poor teams and his recruiting was subpar, his gambling just made it easier to let him go. Without this flap he still would not have been HC there after this coming year without huge improvements on the field.
  23. Sloan will be starting and get heavy minutes. IO will be the top player on the team this year. He can do it all on the offensive end, pass, penetrate, shoot from the outside, finish on the drive and he has a bevy of post moves and knows how to use them. I think a few games into the season Brad will just let Izik roll with it and we will go from there. Izik I guarantee will score 15 a game with 5 or 6 boards and 3 or 4 assists.
  24. Brown was a good athlete for a college big man. He could run the floor and was strong. He couldn't jump outta the gym but not many guys can who are 6'9 265 and they don't have to. I think he lacked basketball skills, footwork and shooting are not athletic abilities per se, you have to work at basketball to get good at those things, he just didn't have the agility and the ability to be a good offensive player. Kenny is being slightly overrated I believe. He was good at clutch and grab in the post, strong and not afraid to mix it up. He really was not a good rebounder, he was usually out of position. He was not an extraordinary CUSA big man and can be replaced. If frericks is willing to mix it up like Kenny does, then he will be a much better player.
  25. Who ranked Darren Clarke in the top 100? I have seen from the high 100s to well into the 200s. I don't really put much stock in the rankings but just interested to see who thought of him so highly.
